I have always cringed in the past where he tries to show his nasty or dark side but last night I just hid my face behind my cushion! It completely emphasized his bad acting.

>>> is all I can really do!

Kat works so much better apart from him!

I can never forgive the fella for ruining Minder on channel 5.

He can't act and to follow the great George Cole was an insult in my opinion.

He should go back to Butlins or making naff Daz adverts and if failing that just immigrate to some where they take would be wooden actors!

EE like to employ light entertainers as actors. Remember Bobby Davro in EE

They are trying to follow the great late Mike Reid without success.

I hate him. He is a one man cringe fest, terrible acting, terrible personality, just awful. Everytime he speaks I wish someone would deck him.

As much as I dislike Alfie this time around I felt Shane pulled it off last night Acting wise.

Personally, I prefer it when he has more dramatic scenes. I realise that the point of the character has always been to lighten things up but I think Shane's much better with more dramatic material.

Do some people just claim he's crap all the time because it's the popular thing to do? Even when he's brilliant, some people seem to insult him.

He tries to hide his bad acting by scratching his head, over-exaggerating his lines and slurping from his cup. I doubt that's just claiming, I'd go as far as saying that's evident. I don't criticize unless I need to but Shane Ritchie is not a strong actor!

Even weak actors can have good moments and Shane has, but some people seem to put him down no matter what. Why is scratching his head a lot a sign of bad acting? That could just be a mannerism he created for Alfie.

I thought the scene with Roxy upstairs was acted well. But Alfie is a total plank, and so selfish.

Exactly,

Have you seen how many times Max scratches the back of his head? How many times Ian scratches himself?

His lines were great, it felt like the grittyness was coming back,

Yes, I agree - credit where it's due. I thought he was great last night. A nice contrast from his usual happy-go-lucky character. I'm glad he's not like it all the time, but I find it very effective when Alfie displays these darker characteristics. His performance at the climax of the dreadful shagger storyline was its only saving grace for me. And this one was a nice parallel following Michael's outburst at Jack, showing a little familial similarity.

I have to agree, normally his cheeky Chappie act does my head in, but last night he was very convincing, the scene where he shouted at Roxy was very realistic.

Either that or there is a flea infestation at Elstree

Alfie and his cheeky chirpy chappy routine always makes me cringe. Along with his "serious" acting.

I know someone just like Alfie in real life - some people are just very cheery and like making you laugh.

Alfie can't really stick up for himself. Look at what he was like when Derek was taunting him over sleeping with Kat. Alfie will never be able to have a truly dark side because he's too much of a wimp.

I thought he punched Derek in the face in the Vic showdown?

That dressing gown!
It's like something Del Boy would wear!

I didn't even look at the screen. I carried on playing my DS until Roxy started crying and, in those few seconds, Rita Simmons acted the crap out of him, stealing that scene completely. I used to love Alfie and had no problem with Shane Ritchie - when he's on a game show he's very enjoyable and upbeat - but ever since Kat came back from looking after her dad he's been terrible. His last good scenes were before she returned.
