Did you consider that it is possible for both of those statements to be true?
It is possible for someone to believe that Apple are being boring by not changing up the design much whilst also being true that if they then do change up the design that the new design is in the opinion of that person, rubbish. A new design has no guarantee of looking amazing to everybody. I'd be pretty sure Apple didn't actually think the iPhone 5 was a piece of shit. |

I imagine the iPhone 5 didn't support enough LTE bands to make it worthwhile to demote it to the cheaper option. Hence the 5c with wider compatibility was released instead of cutting the price of the previous model as Apple usually do when a new model comes out.

The 5C at £469 is a joke if it supposed to be a budget phone. At that kind of price point it is firmly in Galaxy S4 territory and that makes it look pretty poor value. It is in no way a device that will fuel demand for cost conscious customers to consider adopting an Apple product over a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini or HTC 1 Mini.
I think many of you are not understanding Apple's business model and strategy with the 5c. They would prefer western consumers buy the 5s not the 5c. Their target market with the 5c is the Chinese. The 5c will be sold much much cheaper in that market as Apple desperately need to make inroads in China. For the western market the price differential is not that great. There is also a matter street cred to consider. Do you really want to be seen with a 5c if all your peers have the 5s? There's a lot of clever psychology at work here and Apple know it. |

im glad they are charging so much and im also glad they are not making much change to the design so they will continue to lose market share. there are much better handsets around like nokia Lumia 925 or htc one

I read somewhere that the choice of replacing aluminium with polycarbonate for the budget iPhone is a $200 difference. Well the C in iPhone 5C certainly doesn't stand for cheap!

There's a lot of clever psychology at work here and Apple know it. It's around 2 months wage for the average out of city worker. And just over 1 months wage for the average city worker. The rich will buy it but i don't see Apple out classing Xiaomi, Meizu, Huawei, ZTE, HTC and smaller brands all of which have flagships out for half the price of the iPhone. |

It does stand for cheap (for apple to make)
![]() there is no quality material , it s just 10 pence of plastic for apple. the phone is about the same price as the i5 but way cheaper to make... I would have thought that the 5c would be something like 250 or at most 299 pounds... the 470 price is pushing it a lot. for this kind of money you can actually buy a REAL phone , with real features and smart soft...this is htc one money or s4 money for a ios device... sooooooooooooooooooooooo overpriced. |

I completely agree. Pricing the 5S at around the point it is slightly to expensive but, nothing ridiculous as expect it will be subsided on contracts around same as other high end devices. But the pricing the 5C which is essistentially repackaging last year's high end device with a New LTE radio and a plastic body designed by someone who needs see a eye specialist. As a high end device is ridiculous and honestly quite appalling.
the 5c , 5s are NOT high end. they just price them like high end. |

The 5C will not help Apple in China where Android is controlling 90% of the OS market. The 5S isn't enough either. The "gold" colour option isn't real gold which is what the Chinese really prefer so those that can afford it would just buy one plated with real gold. What the 5C will do is cannibalise sales of the 5S. Those that would have bought the S will now opt for the C based on the price. The exact same thing happened with the iPad Mini and this coincided with Android taking over as the #1 OS in the tablet market. There's a lot to keep Apple worried about at the moment. I don't think these latest devices will do much to help their position in the market, particularly in China where Apple are desperate to succeed. |

I think that is a bit unfair on the 5S it is the flagship phone from apple and it is boosting a 64 bit processor though I have no idea if that is going be good. It should be counted as high end. Agreed completely about 5C it is a mid range device might of got more people on to iOS if it had been priced properly.
ontopic: ios is the sole reason why no iphone was or is a high end phone.it s like saying a monkey is as smart as humans.... there are some resemblances , but were quite different... and it s a shame , because i think the i5 it s a good looking phone with quality materials... but it s redundant the second it s switched on. it s like having a ferrari with a toyota prius engine... crap LE: apple cannot win china. no way. china is android country. all the fake phones , all the brands that only sell in chine are android. and most of the phones in china are very cheap. there , you can get a no name phone with big display for less than 100 pounds... apple is tooooo expensive for china. but i believe that in couple of days the chines will do a 99.9999% clone of both the iphones with android

Im not sure who will want the 5C. I doubt it will be much different when it comes to contracts price wise. Maybe people who have never seen a coloured phone before will jump at the chance

The 5s is a high end apple device just not a high end phone if someone like LG for example made it then it would get little or no attention.

You don't know your audience here everything apple do is perfect for this poster.
It was to do with the utter nonsense you posted earlier about how Apple must have thought "the iPhone 5 was a piece of shot". |

Apple have discontinued the iPhone 5 and pretty much replaced it with the 5C price point wise. The main problem with iPhone 5 was limited 4G LTE support which the 5C makes up for. They are also keeping the 4S going.

agree.... it is the apple high end phone in their view. in the real world it s just a feature phone. something we cannot compare to smartphones
Humour me - what would the iPhone need in order to be a smartphone? |
