I think she's extraordinary! As I live in the US, I'm only able to see her programs via YouTube & often watch/listen while cooking or working.

I really like Dr Janina Ramirez. She is a professor s far as I know, and presents really well, and is so enthusiastic.

Her straight History series are good, like the current one on the Romanovs.........but I particularly like the series where she looks at a social or cultural topic and sets it in the historical context over a period of time
eg A Very British Romance series which tells the story of the development of the concept of Romantic Love illustrated through the literature of the 18th and 19th centuries.......

On the whole, I enjoyed Lucy Worsley's series on the Romanovs. I was very interested in the context given to Romanov attitudes to reforms. One criticism however, is that the revolution of 1905 had no context. The war with Japan wasn't mentioned, but it was a significant factor. Also the early battles in World War 1 were relevant to the events of 1915 and 1917 that were covered.
I found the way the murder of the Romanovs surprising, and different to what other programmes would do. I think other programmes would go for the most sensational account, but Lucy Worsley focused on the agreed facts. Anybody who hasn't seen this series because they've been watching some other rubbish should go on iPlayer and watch all 3 episodes.

Well she says that dress is American and from the late 60s on Twitter. She seems to have been getting compliments and questions about it on Twitter; it's probably seen as cool and vintage. You're obviously not a fashionista!
Even though I've heard the story so many times now, it's still so hard to get my head around that brutally barbaric end for Nicholas and his family. I didn't know though they were actually bayoneted too until Lucy said the girls had their jewels stuffed inside their corsets which unintentionally acted as a makeshift armour.....prolonging their agony.

Excellent series given the limitations of presenting a huge subject in three one hour chunks. As said upthread, some omissions (the sheer incompetence and bone headedness of Russian foreign policy in the stumble towards the disaster of WW1 could take up a six parter on its own) but on the whole Lucy's presentation was on the money, and surprising to me, analytical and understated.
A great end to a great series, I learned a lot about a subject I knew little about and Lucy was as engaging and imformative as ever..
The brutal end for the royal family wasn't an easy listen and reminds us how brutal humans can be.
It's a pity documentries like this get fewer viewers than things such as I'm a Celebrity.

I've watched her in a few programmes, mainly the ones she did on The Tudors and quite enjoyed her style of presenting. However, I really didn't realise how much animation she brought to her presentations until I recently watched Majesty & Mortar presented by Dan Cruickshank.
Although this was a subject that interested me, I ended up turning it off as I became bored, mainly due to the presenter being dry and monotone (IMO). I then turned to Lucy and The Romanovs and it was like a breath of fresh air.
I like her..., a lot.

So she has a speech impediment,
It didn't stop her giving me a hugely entertaining 3 hours on Iplayer
First time I'd seen her on tv, will be looking forward to more of Lucy
Elegance and Decadence: The Age of the Regency was the first time she caught my eye and ear (I'm sure she had more of a slight lisp than now?)
She annoyed initially I have to say but like mould she has grown on me down the years and she usually comes up with good themes for programmes which helps. The Romanovs was absorbing, tonight's reminded me of the epic film about their final days which I haven't seen since about 1980 but the main scenes are always easy to recall. Not sure why its stuck in my head so well.

I used to love love love Lucy - absolutely everything about her - until she said that she was not interested in having children because she had been 'educated out of her reproductive function'. There was a reaction at the time, to which she responded that her statement 'had been taken out of context'. Not that she will lose any sleep over it, but she lost a huge admirer there. Shame: I really did adore her style.

Quite! Many mothers are as educated as she is, if not more (cf. Mary Beard) and her comment was inappropriate in that it implied that if you are educated enough you won't want children.
I do not wish to start a diatribe here: I am genuinely sorry that I lost respect for her and am no longer able to enjoy her programmes.

I'll second that, I remember reading an article about her ages ago, probably the Guardian.
I don't remember her saying anything objectionable on the subject, then again I'm quite the liberal.
Quite why she needs to be billy quizzed over this at all, is more of 'thing' with me.

It was execllent, so you should. I think she tonned down her usual 'lightweight' persona for some of this series, certainly during the last episode.

I think the poster means that her comment at the time came across as snotty and looking down (as a career woman and serious academic) on mums. They may not have been the intention at all, but I remember reading the article at the time, and that's how it read to me (as a man).
