Brigitte was interviewed on the Irish Late Late Show on Friday night. She was very flirty at first - seemed a bit tipsy - but broke down in tears when Pat Kenny asked her if she'd had some bad news. Her youngest son has a brain tumour and had surgery on Friday. She had just heard that the 10 hour operation was a success but didn't know yet if her son would have to undergo more treatment.
So maybe she didn't show on Richard & earlier in the week because she had to fly back to see her son?

I wonder why she was on The Late Late Show and not with her son.

Yes, if my son had a brain tumour I would be with him 24/7.

She doesn't have custody of her children does she? Perhaps there are visitation issues?

I agree. I wonder why she did BB at a time that must have been very emotional for her? Unless she needed the money to pay for his treatment. It does seem strange though that she wasn't by his side during the operation.

Her son has a brain tumour, visitation issues should be put aside.

A very close family member died of a brain tumour last year. Believe me, everything else except them is put to one side.

Yes it is strange when these HMs say or claim one thing yet their actions are in complete contradiction to that!

Makes you think that there own self-promotion comes above all - certainly their family members.

It's almost like they are in fact using their family just as another self-promotion tool and vote winner.

Sadly it doesn't always work that way

You'd like to think in times of crisis, that people would always put the person in question first, sadly the reality of it is not everyone is 'reasonable'.

Oh I agree, 'celebs' do not abide by the unspoken rules that are applicable to everyone else.

When self promotion comes before a very sick child though I feel sorry for them.

I didn't mean specifically Brigette, maybe her ex has decided when/if she can see her son.

As I said not everyone plays by the rules

Just some clarification from the Sunday Independent - a quote from the interviewer Pat Kenny: "Some viewers may have got the impression that she wasn't at her son's bedside when he underwent the operation. Thisis not the case. This bad news emerged since the operation which happened earlier in the week". And he is reported as saying that the bad news may have been in relation to a post-operative scan and that when she arrived at the RTE studios, she had just received bad news. ..." She was sad because she had just received news about her son. When she arrived, she went into a huddle with our researchers. She was upset about it and was in tears. ........ He is her youngest boy and she is besotted by him. She is a professional and a performer, so even though she had the bad news, she came on and was determined to give a good show. When I spoke to her, she put on a brave face, steeling herself to go on. When she did come on set, she was completely over-the-top, masking the upset she had."

(The Sunday Independent, 30.1.2005)

Hope that clarifies the situation. She did seem genuinely upset and the audience were very sympathetic to her.

No, not really! the point i think most FMs are making is that she should have been by his side whether pre-operation or post-operation. to be fair we do not know the full details but from experience, i find these celebs find self-promotion far too important than their families. Does anyone remember how kerry mcfadden/katona went on and on and on about her kids in I'm a celebrtity.......She even missed her kid's 1st birthday to be in the jungle and also missed her 1st steps. one would have thought that as soon as she arrived in Britain she'll be off to see them. NOT!! instead she did the rounds of movie premieres, award ceremonies etc before seeing the kids days later.

Oh for heavens sake, give the woman a break.
I liked Brigitte on CBB - she handled everything that was thrown at her with dignity - and I still like her. She was with her son for his operation and was told it was a success. Then she came to do the interview but got bad news just as she arrived at the studio, she didn't bring up the subject of her son until the interviewer pressed her to talk about it and then she broke down.
I'm sure she's gone back to be with her son and wouldn't have come to Dublin at all unless she thought her son was okay after the operation.

Jade is the worst example - she'll do anything to stay in the news and has done for over 2 years with no discernible talent, aptitude or saving grace .....

yeah, her son has a brain tumour, and she's getting drunk and going on chatshows... nothing wrong with that.

and yet BEZ is some kind of evil bastard from hell for not seeing his kids the MOMENT he left the house.

sigh.

so many hypocrites on these forums.

I would wish Brigitte's son and anyone else in a similar situation a sincere speedy recovery. It certainly puts the passions raised by a mere game show into perspective.

come on peeps!!! let's keep this thread rolling!! i'm surprised at the few opinions registered thus far. it's a subject i'm keen on and i want to hear what other FMs think of the treatment of "close" family members by these so-called celebs be it BB contestants or otherwise. thanks for your contributions.

Its amazing how judgmental we as human beings can be without knowing the facts. Brigitte may be flawed but I recognise a true mother who loves her children and is trying to do her best. I love her for that. Some of you need to look into yourselves and stop throwing stones. Lets pray that her dear son pulls through eh.

Thanks
Azuka
