It just goes to show you what a few good scripts can do! Shirley has been great this week - even though Ronnie's back, it's nice to see Shirley step up. I loved the little Mitchell family unit when she was with Phil, and she'd be great as the new Mitchell Matriarch.

Maybe he could just start appreciating her and treat her better. They've both had a tough year, if she takes him back he needs to make her feel secure.
I've loved her this week. Happy Shirley is well worth keeping. |

Absolutely not! Shirley should stay! This weeks scenes with Shirley have been brilliant; showing her softer, happier side. There is still more that can be done with her character and I hope Dominic Treadwell Collins can do this for her.

I voted yes it is time for her to go,I really don't see where her character can go now, she has no ties unless her and phil get back together as EE needs that big family unit like the mitchells I do miss that
Other than that where can her character go ??? |

I have mixed feelings about whether she should stay or go. If Shirley leaves she had a great exit and her death would have a strong impact. If Shirley is staying I hope the writers aren't planning a Phirley reunion. Shirley was a weak dependant woman during her relationship with Phil. Her life revolved around boosting his ego and basking in his power. They brought out the worst in each other. For the two of them to reunite and begin a loving supportive relationship would be unrealistic considering their previous dynamic.
The Shirley I saw the past two episodes was stronger, happier and more confident than she was as a Mitchell. However, she is still the woman who abandoned her children and who seldom remembers her dead son. If she is to stay around I would hope the writers address this. Perhaps bring in her sister, Tina and a niece or nephew with cystic fibrosis. Shirley would finally have family of her own around and be forced to face up to abandoning Jimbo. |

She should stay. She's one of the only characters in it I enjoy. I have thought she should leave at various times but if she goes that's just going to free up more time for the Brannings and teens to appear.

Yes and I'm totally convinced that none of those votes are as a result of someone having multiple accounts.
![]() The writing has been better for her this week and I like the thing with Carl (about time she had something to do, she did almost nothing since she returned) but I think its time for Shirl to live with Carly in Australia. Unless she's dead. In that case, thank goodness |

Those issues aren't going to go away. Their relationship was toxic for a long time. They were not unlike Max and Tanya in that regard. Given their history it would not be credible for them to suddenly develop the ability to have a happy, loving relationship with each other.
Shirl has started to believe he does genuinely care about her. That was one of her issues before There was moments of genuine happiness just before the split when they got engaged. I believe if it wasnt for heather they wouldve been a loving r/ship then |

If it's the Shirley we've had this week then yes, of course she has to stay! She was back to the more feisty, caring Shirley not the self-pitying bulldog she's been for far too long.
She's been excellent this week. Re her and Phil - she was waiting for him to ask her to stay in their last scene at the hospital bed IMO, all it would have taken is one word from him and I think he knew that. So why didn't he ask her to stay? I've never doubted that Phil had very strong feelings for Shirley, he definitely loved her, so why didn't he ask her to stay? Too much has happened and they can never go back to how it was as the spectre of Ben and Heather's murder will always be between them? Perhaps he knows underneath that they don't bring out the best in each other? Or perhaps it's because he knows that one day Ben will be released and naturally he'll offer him a home (if he wants to say with him) and ultimately knows that Ben and Shirley under the same roof are never going to work? |

I think phil has shown a lot more respect to shirl in the past few months. . They had their moments when they could be happy espicially at the start. He has moved on from sharon

Unfortunately there was a lot of dysfunction between those moments. I think that had Heather's murder not happened they would still be bringing out the worst in each other. Phil, encouraged by Shirley, would be bullying everyone and Shirley would be strutting round the square as Phil's moll.
shirley or no shirley phil would still be acting like hes top dog. nothing will change that |

Get rid of the two bit lush. A bitter, desperate, friendless woman.

Maybe the writer reads these forums because Denise also had a rant at the Brannings.Voted stay, Linda's a good actress and I think DTC will use her better. She's been good this week. |

I remember that he was very moody during most of their relationship and Shirley put a lot of effort in appeasing him and boosting his ego. Happy people aren't moody and aggressive. Phil will always try to be top dog but, partly due to Shirley's encouragement, he was especially obnoxious when they were together.

Love Shirley and Linda Henry - hope she becomes a guardian to Jay and the writers build a family around her, she has the makings of a great EE matriarch + general tough bird. Agree with others that she is underused and much better than what she's been given. I see a resurgence for her now though...

I hope she stays and they give her some decent material. Every show needs an antagonist and you don't have to 'like' characters for them to be good.
