Why the flying fudge cake would he hold her captive???
seriously, that would be just a big mouth for him to feed and clean up after.
So much easier to strangle her and much more convenient for him.

He's bribed her to keep quiet with 4000 fags and 12 bottles of cheap gin

He's found her a nice place to live.

Road on one side, nice bit of pavement on the other, couple of storm drains dotted about the place. Done well for herself has Shirl

I dint think she's dead, something would have been mentioned by now. Also wonder who will find her luggage that the taxi driver dumped then start investigating what really happened to Shirl...

Surely she blew that chance when she walked out on three small children, one of whom was disabled? She cared nothing for her kids and didn't even go to Jimbo's funeral.

The term matrirach comes from the same root as the word maternal, and Shirley has never had a maternal bone in her body - or she would not be able to sleep at night remembering how Jimbo died without his mother around to comfort him. His mother was too busy chasing after men.

Personally, I think if Shirely was murdered yesterday it would be a great shock storyline, as TPTB managed to keep it under wraps so well.

I wouldn't put any credence on Sharon Marshall saying that Shirley isn't dead - Marshall is on the writing team and would lose her job if she leaked the one shock exit they had managed to hush up.
They haven't a good history in keeping things like this quiet - the last I can remember is the arrival of Kirsty. A lot of us had guessed that Max was married, but the actual storyine and actress cast was know known unti transmission - which is how it should be.

Err.... this is London.
Unattended luggage left in the street for a few hours would be pinched just in case it contained valuables.

There is no way she is kept prisoner. Shes dead.

Carl knows that no one is going to come looking for her if she disapears as she moved to greece with no forwarding address. Shes an easy kill.

She pushed her luck too far with the wrong man.

This is a soap, these things usually lead to something

I'm hoping she's not dead, and the storyline has something to do with Phil sorting Carl out when he gets out of hospital.

Shirley is no longer needed in the show and it's time the character was killed off or left, somehow I don't think she is dead because there has been no confirmation that Linda is leaving the show.

Judging by that one scene with his mother, it is obvious that Carl has masochistic tendencies (and mummy issues).
I bet he keeps Shirley in a dungeon to indulge in S&M rituals

Whether you like Shirley to be killed off or not, it is very unlikely that an established character will be eliminated by a passing villain.
There is more drama in suggesting she is dead, only to bring her back later in a (shock, horror) plot twist.

I think if it was to be a shock death then more would have been made of it onscreen. There would be no uncertainty surely in order to heighten the drama. Having her die off screen seems like they would be keeping her departure a secret just to not make the most out of the opportunity such a dramatic storyline would provide.

She still has a pulse etc but the character died a very long time ago... drowned in her vodka, self pitty and obsession for bald eggheads

I love Shirley and will be really upset if they have killed her off, especially without us even seeing it.

I think Phil will rescue her from Carl and they will get back together (at least I hope so).

If Shirley was dead I doubt Carl would have casually told Ian that he's dealt with her as he wouldn't want the risk of him telling people.

I saw her at Glastonbury and she's similar in real life. She is feisty and gives the impression no one would mess with her.

Agree about the left luggage in London. In reality it would be gone in minutes. However this is a soap so someone, probably Jean, will find her suitcase and start asking questions. I don't think she's dead. There hasn't been anything leaked about her departure. She'll get away and Phil will see to Carl.

Linda lives near me in Peckham - saw her a few months ago in a greasy spoon...

If Linda has left EE I would be surprised.

I can't see Shirley being the kind of person to stay captured. She'd batter Carl the first chance she'd get, it's not like she'd be scared of him. She wouldn't be easily controlled.

I don't think she is.
