Is Katie the first woman in charge of a soap who has done well?

Good question? And she really seems to be "producing"! The pacing of the show is really good at the moment.

Although I got back into Emmerdale recently in order to discover Vanessa, I am suddenly finding more stories involving other characters watchable. It is poignant how Amy is feeling about giving Kyle away now that his adoptive parents have been killed. Although Chas and Debbie are feisty rivals, they are both united in feeling they need to report Cameron. Then Cain and Charity are suddenly back to their adventurous selves. Move over Moira and Jai! Although I had laughed at Nikhil in 2011, he had mellowed with Gennie and I empathised with him enough to watch some of the aftermath of her death, including his final episode.

Watched bit of Emmerdale on Thursday and was bored instantly don't see the appeal myself.

Both ITV soaps are doing very well. Same can't be said for EE on the other side.

Emmerdale is the best soap! I definitely think it needs the Best Soap gong. It has a great cast of actors and the writing is superb. The storylines are realistic, and there are a variety of characters, who are cared about thanks to the episodes produced. I think it has humour and drama, which has a good vibe in every scene. I really want them to get Best Soap, but wish they had more viewing figures! I think they need to do work on weddings as some haven't been too dramatic lately, and I'd like to see Whodunnits? and a fire next year. I also think that the older characters need used more, and I don't really want any changes in terms of the families, except perhaps the Maceys OR the Bartons.

I am an Eastenders fan but Emmerdale is light years ahead of all the other soaps at the moment. Hollyoaks also deserves a mention.

I could not agree more! Absolutely mind-blowing!!!

If they don't win BEST SOAP at the awards, I'll eat my hat!..........................................OR IT'S A FIX!!!!

Emmerdale is better than Eastenders and Corrie at the moment. I thought Karl's reveal in Corrie was lame compared to what Emmerdale are doing with Cameron. Compare Rhona's painkiller addiction story with Sharon's on Eastenders, both similar stories but Rhona's has been told in a far superior and realistic way. The writing, the acting and the story telling pace is far more gripping on Emmerdale than the other two. I find Eastenders and Corrie uncomfortable to watch at the moment. Eastenders has improved in the last couple of weeks but is still lacking something...

I've been busy all week so had on Sky+ Emmerdale episodes Wed-Fri and have just fished watching them all back-to-back. Wow. Incredible.

It's been an incredibly good few weeks - great mix of humour and real drama as well.

Emmerdale is simply superb at the minute...anyone I talk to mentions it.

Its been a long long time since any soap was the topic of conversation IRL the way Emmerdale is now...and long may it last!

Like someone already said...if it doesn't clean up in awards season...then its a fix! Especially if EE wins anything...I'm sure the BAFTA was fixed last time!

If Emmerdale doesn't sweep the floor come the next awards ceremony, I expect there will be a mutiny! It deserves every gong going! It will also be a travesty if the late Richard Thorp isn't honoured in the Lifetime Achievement adulation. If EE win any, it will be nothing but a huge embarassment for everyone. Remember, the 'Best Soap' category is voted for by the general public and we all know what terrible descisions they are capable of which is quite worrying.

[quote=biscuitfactory;68638058]Emmerdale's 'murder reveal' storyline is great but I've got to say I'm enjoying Coronation Street's more ( possibly because it's nearer to it's climax so is more exciting. I believe Emmerdale's is going to be dragged out for at least another week, with police bugging Debbie & Cameron's house)

When Corrie finished on Wednesday night with Dev bursting in to the registry office I was distraught when I realised there was no second episode that evening and I'd have to wait till Friday!!

Not feeling that with Emmerdale, really. Not yet anyway.[/QUOT

I thought the whole think with Carl,Dev and Jason was utterly boring and glad it's over...I might now start watching CS again .

I'm loving Emmerdale at the moment for me it's been the best soap of 2013 by a long shot.

Corrie has been good but there have been dry patches, where ED has naturally flowed with it's storylines and has been consistently good.

ED is good at the moment but I think the show still lacks interesting characters. Steve really had a lot of potential but he's gone.

I don't think he's gone for good, he isn't down on the DS movers list as left.

I was away last week and came back to watch the episodes over 7 days. They were fantastic, all top notch acting and story lines. Loved Charity and Cains hotel shenanigans, tempered with Debbie and Chas (some brill acting/scenes between them) discovering the Cameron confession. Great TV.
