Well its been nearly a year since he's gone, and to be perfectly honest, I think they need to find a way of bringing him back, it was a dreadful mistake to get rid of him.

I mentioned this on an emmerdale fan page on twitter, and it got retweeted.

I was thinking of the ED we had ten years ago (or maybe longer!) and the long running story of Chas and Carl. I know I used to be hooked on Emmerdale wondering what was going to happen next with them.

The soap seems to be getting back to it's former glories, thank god. However I would love to see a knock on the back door of the pub, Chas open it, and Carl be there!

There is no way he can come back. I agree it was a mistake to kill him off but nothing can be done about it now.

Yes I agree whole heartly with this. Just a shame current producer wasn't around at 40th birthday, we might have had someone more worthwhile killed off, like Cameron, or Declan.

You are totally right that Chas with anyone just doesn't work with anyone else like she did with Carl.

Think I was the only one who was happy he was killed off, couldn't stand him

I liked Carl and wish he hadnt been killed off.

There a quite a few other members of Emmerdale that should have been in the firing line before him.

I hope Tom Lister manages to get something else soon as he has a young family and didnt really want to leave Emmerdale yet

I liked Carl too, and he was HOT. I could have looked at him all day.

I wish he would return to the Dales.

So do I, I loved him and Chas together. I think this is one occasion that I would accept a really unbelievable storyline, just so we could get him back!

Damn you Stuart Blackburn for killing off Mr Carl and for ruining 8 years worth of love story between Chas and him by turning him into a attempted rapist

At the end of the day, no character, or actor is as big as the show itself. Yes, maybe people were unhappy about Carl being killed off, but there are still strong actors and good characters in the show and there always will be. Look at Kim Tate. Strong character and brilliant actress, but the soap has survived without her. I personally felt happy about the Chas/Carl storyline ending, because it was going round in circles.

Tom was a great actor, so I am sure he will find more acting work.

Carl was hot, yes. But I've never understood the attraction to him as a character. Predictable is the word that springs to mind. He was lucky to have survived so long, in my opinion.

The feeling that I had with Carl, was that he was backed into a corner after he split with Chas. All that was left was someone who had become bitter, and was tainted by the things that he'd done. The only opportunity that we got to see a 'better' side to him was when he helped Jimmy during the amnesia story, and potentially in his relationship with Megan, which just didn't come off at all.Unlike with Cain, before the attack, there was no sense that anything he did was caused by a broken heart, or anger about the fate of a loved one (Sarah) - there was no sense that Carl really cared about anyone any more, towards the end. Perhaps if he had had a decent story in the intervening year between the split and his death, it would have been a different matter - we could have seen him show some emotions and (good) feelings about other people.

Here's an idea for you - the last year has been a figment of Carl's imagination. He's been in a coma after getting a dunt on the head with a brick. You never know...

Possibly, yes. Maybe he just didn't like that character or couldn't see a way forward for him? He was certainly underused that whole year. I didn't see the height of the Carl/Chas romance, except their doomed attempt to make it work post Lexi and Paddy, but it did seem horrible to me to have it end on such a sour note. Especially as Chas was convinced that she loved Cameron more, yet now she knows what we do.

I'm still gutted about this! Carl was brilliant and was played by a great actor, he was just the victim of SB not having a clue what to do!

I wouldn't feel like this if it happened because Tom Lister wanted to move on but the fact that it looked like he didnt and was axed just makes it sickening!

I agree with this.

I always liked Carl and his pairing with Chas was brilliant. I still don't think Carl would have ever tried to rape her either - which I think was a stupid plot device to try to convince the viewers that he deserved to get bumped off

There hasn't been anyone else to replace him either which is why I was hoping that Steve was going to be staying.

To be honest. I'm glad that the British soaps have stayed away from doing like Americans soaps where characters die and come back every few months.

I don't miss Carl all that much. I never understood why people were so hard up on the Chas/Carl relationship so much. They cheated on each other so much and broke up and got back oly to break up again to really live up to "We were meant to be" Soul Mates stuff that people wanted to them up as.

It makes for good viewing... and the pair go together very well. Lets face it if it was "meant to be" and perfect, they would be boring to watch.

I came up with some storylines last year to get Carl back in that I think were quite imaginative, and not totally beyond reality. (Especially compared to a story that had been in the news a few weeks earlier.)

If Tom had wanted to leave, fair enough. Having said that, even if he did, there should have been a better exit for him than the misery caused by SB.

I don't miss him at all, and his acting wasn't great, it was average, which is why all he's been employed for since is two pantomimes.

The Carl and Chas stuff was repetitive and terminally boring but after a couple of murders it seemed to be the only thing he was capable of. He never had another proper storyline.
Oh - we need filler - let's stick Carl and Chas together again for a week or two.

I'm not saying it should have been perfect. Every couple/family needs some drama. Just not necessarily affairs. Its just cheap and lazy. I lost track of how many time Chas and Carl just got back together and then in a few weeks one of them is already sleeping around.
