Absolute quality from Karl
A quality, unhinged villain. He should get together with Cameron over a few beers.

Carl is going to get destroyed by current-day Phil, let alone any really threatening villains. I'm talking your Steve Owens, your Richard Hillman's, Phil circa 2001-2003, even Johnny bloody Allen. Hell, even Emmerdale's Kim Tate could give him a good run for his money. Carl is nothing, and is proof EE really don't make em' as good as they used to regarding their villains. MM is the only really good villain in EE of the last few years, and even then they've failed to make a convincing opponent to Phil; MM has barely talked to Phil.

I agree, but the OP was referring to Karl from Corrie, not Carl in EE.

That's why the two main soaps should never have a villain with the same name. Would confuse DS too much.
That's why Corrie's Nick is a good guy. |

Nah, Karl isn't as psychotic as Cameron is. You can always see it in his eyes when he gets angry - that look he gets when he's working how out to kill someone who gets in his way. Karl didn't intend to kill anyone, he just did it as a reaction to protect himself from being arrested. Cameron doesn't have a problem with killing more people - it just causes more inconvenience to him. I can't see him giving himself up in the same way that Karl did. Karl's priority was his 'love' for Stella, whereas Cameron is all about protecting himself. I think he'd fight until the end.

Karl intended to kill Sunita when he entered the hospital and pulled her tubes out to protect himself.

Karl was a great character, and its so sad what happened to him. This is why Corrie have got to try and get away from going down murderous routes with their villains. Karl could of been a villain without killing Sunita or burning the pub down.
Remember that great scene when Owen was waving a crowbar around in front of Karl trying to threaten him, but Karl didn't even blink. Great stuff. Really sad to see him leave. Hopefully in a few years he seeks medical help and gets released. |

He was a great character, more than worthy of being invested in and nurtured, not simply used up quickly and destroyed in the way he was. I loved the scene with Owen too, he really showed Owen up for the little blustering buffoon he is and let everyone see how a real man behaves. I hope he can come back again some day too, he's know worse than Tracey the butcher Barlow anyway.

Hopefully in a few years he seeks medical help and gets released. Actually they should have had Sunita dying in the cellar as a result of injuries from the fire - then it would have been manslaughter but instead they had to make Karl go and pull her breathing tube out in cold blood. I actually thought at the beginning that the Karl storyline was quite unique. Soaps do stalker storylines with someone unusual as the culprit but this is the first time they have shown a man driven insane with obsession over a woman. Another unique and interesting point was having the arsonist ru back into the burning building to save the life of the woman he loved - that along with the guilt was what initially made me think he wasn't evil. With John Stape they ha that moving scene on the rooftop with him trying to kill himself and Fiz being placatory. With Karl they messed up. We didn't need to have him go bersek and threaten to burn the pub a second time and then blurt out the way he killed Sunita in cold blood etc - that was so silly. They could instead have had him have a breakdown after confessing to Stella - maybe him holding her locked in his arms and refusing to let her go and the police being placatory to get him to let go of her and go with them. |

The story dragged on for too long, lost interest a long while ago.
