It's not feasible for them to have killed Shirley off I don't think.

First they would have had to go to the trouble of keeping it all an absolute secret, and then they'd have to deal with the aftermath. Carl murdering someone puts a shelf life on his character straight away in normal circumstances. He's messing with Phil though, and Phil certainly wouldn't rest until Carl was dead.... Carl has so far done some pretty dodgy things but I reckon he has a lot of mileage yet.

Added to that, if they had wanted to kill Shirley off then the perfect opportunity to do that would have been in the car crash.

I really hope she's not dead, after a year of being a tiresome bore she has come alive again these past few weeks!

its all being kept secret. linda usually goes on a break this time of year but they could be saying that as a cover up, nobody knows the outcome

Didn't DTC create Shirley? I don't think he'd get rid especially as she's still got mileage as a character.

Maybe that's why nothing's been said as to if she's alive or dead? It might be up to DTC now: if he has stories for her he can bring her back, and if not they can discover a body in time for Carl's exit.

Not necessarily. Even if Newman had intended for this to be the end of Shirley (which I don't think she did anyway) there would be nothing stopping him from changing that and bringing her back if he wished. Sure it'd require a bit of reshuffling but that's what they're paid to do. Bigger obstacles have been dealt with.

They could eventually incorporate the discovery of Shirley's body into the story of Carl's feuds with Phil and Max. If Carl did kill Shirl it could fuel Phil's desire for revenge

I'm just watching Wednesday's episodes now and it just feels like a proper goodbye for the character. Why go to all this if she doesn't die?

Unless Shirley has a death wish, why would she wait alone in the arches for Carl particularly after she knows he tried to kill Phil, he's not going to think twice about doing it again.

If DTC changes the story and brings her back then that's great as she's a fantastic actress but I seriously think its meant to be to show how mental Carl is.

I don't understand (unless she's been held hostage) what would make Shirley stay away from the square and Phil apart from death. She's basically a Mitchell her and Ronnie would rule the square.

The amount of tweets about this is bloody mad, i cant even read them all theres too many. Theres also been 2,000 comments on fb about it. I reckon this is shirls own biggest story to date.. People are seriously worried shes been killed off. As much as i hate not knowing i like seeing the reactions. When she returns she could become a legend if the writers carry her on like shes been this week

her return has got to be huge. its got to be get johnny week huge. the lengths they are going to keeping it a secret. theres obviously something huge going to happen and it will involve phil. theres no doubt he will be involved which means nothing long term can stick with sharon.
