scott finished early august when jake was long off on his holidays. he wasnt back filming till early september
So "Jack" is leaving beginning October? Why is he going before Max is let out I wonder?

Either way, none of it means Shirley is coming back

i dont think shes dead, theres no way lindas last scene was sitting on a chair. its so disrespectful to her as an actress

Well the way they treated Pauline Fowler (Wendy), I don't think they'd respect Linda who's only been in EE 3 times less than her.

pauline at least got an onscreen death and wendy was able to act it. linda wouldnt even get the chance to do an onscreen death if shes been killed offscreen. also pauline wasnt a plot device to prop up a villain

Thoroughly enjoyable to see the two bit lush get what had been coming to her for years. The only complaint I have is that there was no horrible, violent scenes with her being mutilated on screen. That would have really set me up for the weekend.
...

Sick....

I think his tongue was firmly in his cheek regarding that comment .

I'm sure Mo is not really a voyeuristic sadist . Or is he

I think it has more dramatic impact the way they did it. She sits there - in Phils chair, smugly thinking she has won the game. He knows no one is going to come to her aid and slams the door.

The audience must now use its imagination. Thats what cliffhangers are about. Not about giving someone a good send off - but dramatic impact.

thats not the point. they couldve had a fight or something or she couldve fallen into the pit and then we wonder what he did with her. linda didnt get the chance to act her exit. its such a let down if thats her exit. nobody really cares about shirl now jean is going and phil isnt going to mention her every episode?

Its exactly the point from the producers viewpoint. The audience is now guessing what happened. As she has disappeared the pit scene could not have happened. We dont know she died a violent death but it is suggested by the phone and photo left behind. Two things she wouldnt leave Walford without.

The last shot of her in the chairs is unnerving as she has deluded herself thinking she was safe. She wasn't.

since phil has survived the pit then shirley couldve easily survived. if she fell he couldve took her somewhere and she still would be alive.

its still a plot device to prop up a villain

Well, course it is a plot device to prop up a villain.

Carl is a new character they are investing in and Shirley is on he way out. Her death serves a purpose in increasing his menace.

exactly and she deserves far better than that. its like they didnt care about her at all and would rid of her given the chance. linda deserves far more than that

Shye cant stay alive. Are you with me. She stupidly threatened a man who tried to kill Phil a couple of days before. The bent car deal is far more important to him then the life of someone who was leaving for a new life and would not be missed.

its far too obvious. theres no shock if people think shes dead. so many on twitter think shes dead. nobody will care enough and i cant see them finding a body

not for the viewers. the amount of tweets shows me she'll be far more missed than people think. some even said theyd stop watching if she was killed off

B ut it is not about saying goodbye to a character. It is about moving the plot. They did care about her - they gave her one of the most grisly haunting memorable deaths.

Their good works would be undone if she came back.

giving her a plot device exit is not caring about a character in their own right,

if its so easy for you to assume shes dead then its not going to be a shock to you. if shes alive it will be. they wouldnt make it this obvious shes dead. who exactly onscreen is going to find a body? carl isnt going to tell anyone

its not going to be memorable. not i the way bradley did. offscreen deaths arent remembered

The fact that the twits on twitter are talking about it means her exit has been a success. Its when no one notices the character has gone then you start worrying.

Thats how drama works. You have to make an impact on the viewer so they come back for more.

She just disappeas. ~Happens every day. There are people murderered and no one misses them.

Quite daring for EE really.

people will forget about it after a while. its just cos its now theres loads of comments. the story will move on with david coming back etc and shirley will be a long distant memory. aswell as onscreen acting like she doesnt exist. she'll end up like an anthony or tyler like exit

Why is it too obvious? What would have even more obvious was if Shirley had talked her way out of it!

Carl said he would deal with her his way, well as we have seen, Carl's "way" involves trying to kill people!
