ok this week was quite good.

ronnie is making her presence felt on the square and standing up for herself and standing up to badboy carl. this is going to be one hell of a ride from here until christmas. ronnie certanly knows how to go to where she is not wanted. just walzing into the vic and asking alfie for the books!!! now that took guts.

and as for carl. do you think he killed shirley? im not sure what i think. i think he is holding her captive somewhere and that will probably come out at christmas. and the the fact that he is forcing ian to lie to the police shows just how dangerous he is!
this makes me feel for poor max sitting there in prison an innocent man. the truth will come out soon just hang in there max! this is taking a huge emotional toll on abi! if i was jack i would torture carl until the truth came out. no wait id torture ian beale it would take far less time for the truth to come out.

and there is the fact that he is using the mitchell businesses for his personal uses wont go down with phil. i think phil will kill carl at christmas! phil was threatening to crush dexters hand for a missing 10 grand who knows what he will do to carl. its sure that carl is not going down without a fight.

and the fact that ronnie was met by kat at the prison gates was a nice gesture of time served punishment has been done!

great week any views?

Ronnie stuff was generally good. Womack and Wallace are without pier on the show... until they give Lynsey Coulson something to do at least.

The negatives are still blaringly bad though. Carl is a crap hard man - so ridiculously intense and 'ard it makes me laugh.

Rita Simons is not good at dramatic stuff and Womack shows her up every time.

Kim is appallingly badly written and the attempts at comedy fall flat.

The return of Ronnie shows up how bad Sharon has been since her return and really makes Dean somewhat redundant.

A good week in relation to the year-to-date, but still a long way to go.

My worry is that they won't keep the momentum... as has happened so many times before!

It's been quite a good weak but I enjoyed Corrie more, even though I only watch Corrie on and off and have been watching Eastenders every week since 1985! On tonight's episode I got a sense that the Mitchells were getting better again and are starting to finally interact with eachother after months of being individual characters.

It didn't bring in the much needed boost in ratings...so couldn't have been that good. In fairness...I no longer watch EE.

It was an improvement on last week, which wasn't difficult. The big question is, can the standard and quality (which is slightly above par) be maintained?

It has been a good week . But we need consistency . Certain characters are being underused

The ratings do not necessarily reflect the quality of the episodes, especially in such a short space of time. Casual viewers will only start flocking back when they repeatedly hear that the show has improved.

Ratings =/= quality.

Phil won't kill Carl. When has Phil ever killed anyone?!

I like how they are showing Ronnie gradually build up her strength and think Roxy will be the one to cave in and be desperate to see her sister behind Alfie's back. Ronnie and Michael scenes have been the masterstroke for me - so fascinating to watch!

I agree its been a great week and Ronnie has shaken the square up and given the writers some meat to chew on. How long they can chew on this material remains to be seen. It's got me watching again (after stopping in 2011) so for me it has been a success.

I hope they keep it up and with Peggy and David returning things do look promising.

Which characters would you say are being underused?

I thought mon to thurs were very good, fri not so much.

Ronnie will be the glue that fixes the Mitchells, which can only be a good thing. I loved the various reactions to her return, particularly Kats and Michaels.
Shirley was fabulous, which meant that Friday's episode without her felt flat to me. I miss her already.
I'm not that keen on Carl but without him we would not have this s/l, so a necessary evil at this point.

Downside: I just don't believe in Ian and Denise and I think Ian's blackmail could have been just as good without the involvement of the Foxs. Kim is incredibly annoying....the taxi driver made me laugh more than she has ever done.

Still, there is a general air of optimism about the show that could filter out to ex viewers and at least make them curious to tune in again.

Ronnie definitely improved the week. Every scene she was in was fantastic.

A lot of the rest of it was boring though.

It was overall a strong week, but the show is still weak in parts.

Ronnie Mitchell is the glue that will hold the Mitchells together. I think its criminal that the show let this family fall asunder, so they could focus on stories of tuna and snakegate. I wasn't surprised he ratings didn't dramatically improve in one week, given the appalling material Enders has churned out this year, particularly over the summer months.

I think it is heading in the right direction again. Ronnie's return has ruffled a few feathers. Carl has made his presence felt on the Mitchell and Beale family, whilst there is now a big question mark over Shirley. Is she dead, alive? Who knows?

I'm not sure how believable I find the Beale/Fox union. They have only briefly remembered cindy Jnr stole 10,000.

Sharon, the once iconic queen of Walford is really in a terrible state. The writing for her since she came back has been shockingly bad. Having Ronnie Mitchell come back and instantly be in charge, particularly over Sharon is a real picture of things have turned out. I want Dominic Treadwell Collins to bring Sharon back to her former glory. It can be done I'm sure of it.

For me Eastenders is the weakest of the three soaps by far and this week just accentuated that fact. Eastenders are relying too much on Carl as a villain and for me that just fails as I think he makes a unbelievable villain.
