They haven't all been great considering they are usually written by the show runner. For me the best would be The Christmas Invasion because of the focus on post regeneration. The worst The Widow Witch and Wardrobe.

Now, as I like to be different, the best Christmas ep for me varies between A Christmas Carol and the Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe...of late, I'm preferring the latter...its what a Christmas special should be in my eyes! It gets a lot of uneccessary flack on here in my opinion anyway, and that only strengthens my liking of it.

For the worst, its a toss up between Voyage of the Damned or the Snowmen.....I really hated both of those....

I forget to mention the End of Time too.....awful from start to finish for me....

I was in a relationship with someone who didn't like doctor who when 'the Christmas invasion' was on. So, I never seen it.

Ive been buying a lot of cheap second hand 'who' dvd's for the 50th, so I'm looking to fill this hole in.

Man, this is a no-brainer.

Best: The Feast of Steven was a lot of fun, but I would have to give it to The Christmas Invasion.

Worst: The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe. (It was worse than the movie "Showgirls". It was worse than "Manos: The Hands of Fate". It was worse than "Howard The Duck".)

BEST- A Christmas Carol: It was just a really lovely episode.
WORST- The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe: Probably one of my least favourite New Who episodes. It had its moments and I can't say it was all bad, but for the most part it was just too silly and too sentimental.

The first one I actually enjoyed was Voyage of the Damned, which is funny given how it's one of the least popular. I didn't like any of the others up until A Christmas Carol, wasn't so keen on The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe, but I quite liked The Snowmen.

Overall best would probably be The Snowmen, worst would be The End of Time.

Not sure on the best, as they have all been pretty awful. However the Narnia rip off in particular, stands out as not even being worthy of having the name Doctor Who.
I don't know what Moffat was smoking when he thought that would be a good idea.
It's exactly why I don't have high hopes for Matt Smiths farewell.
Looking at past efforts, Moffat will probably have The Doctor regenerate after being hit with a Christmas tree bauble.

My favourite has to be The Christmas Invasion (with Runaway Bride a very close second). The Tenth Doctor's Lion King speech was just brilliant, and instantly won me over to the then 'new' Doctor.

My least favourite was The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe. It just didn't hold together very well. Which is a shame because I had two added incentives to like it - the Lancaster bomber where they filmed some of the scenes was just 15 miles from where I currently live, and Alexander Armstrong and I hail from the same village (his dad was my family doctor growing up).

Best - The Christmas Invasion. It starts with an amazing TARDIS crash and is a brilliant introduction for the 10th Doctor.

Worst - for me, A Christmas Carol. It just didn't hit the mark for me at all.

Best to worst;

1) TCI. You'd think a having a Doctor Lite story as the first Christmas Special would work against it, but it serves to build up the first 'fully formed' appearance of the Tenth Doc. And that moment when Rose realises the Sycorax are speaking English and starts to put two and two together is the perfect introduction.

2) The Snowmen. The plot and the villain are little iffy, but between Smith and JLC's fantastic performances, the presence of Vastra, Jenny and Strax and the beginning of Clara's arc, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

3) A Christmas Carol. Arguably the Christmasiest Christmas special to date. It loses points for underusing Amy (and Rory), but the supporting cast are great, Gambon of course, and particularly Jenkins in her first proper acting role.

Plus, flying sharks.

4) The Next Doctor. Another story boosted by performances, rather than the actual story itself. Morrissey is great as Lake, and I love all the little not-quite-the-Doctor touches such as his Sonic Screwdriver and the Tardis.

However, as usual for New Who, the Cyberman fail to be scary and the less said about the Cybershades and the Cyberking, the better.

5) The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. There's a lot wrong with this story. Primarily, the seeming absence of a story. Then there's the misjudged and crowbarred in cameo appearance of Bailey and Co and the whole daft tree stuff.

But despite all that, one thing still makes it watchable and, in parts, genuinely enjoyable. Matt Smith. Proving, once again that he can turn even the dullest story into something greater than the sum of it's parts.

6) Voyage of the Damned Not an episode I've rewatched a lot since it aired. Tennant's solid as usual and Kylie's performance is nice. But the Poseiden'esque story is just so flat and the villain looks more suited to something in a CBBC show. It has a couple of good moments, but overall, it's just very disappointing.

7) The End of Time Whether you include both episodes or just part 1, there's nothing especially Christmassy about TEOT. But that's not a reason to judge it poorly. Mainly because it has so, so many other reasons to do that. Crappy Master, crappy Timelords, pointless Donna cameo, comedy OAPS....

8)The Runaway Bride. There are arguably worse Christmas Specials than TRB in the list above. It's a decent enough story and has the coolest Tardis scene in the show's history, before or since. But it's also the story that introduced Donna. And for that reason, it must be ranked bottom of the pile

For me:

Best - Voyage Of The Damned (superb acting, direction, writing, drama and lots of action)

Worst - The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe (worst acting, writing, direction and not very good plotting.)

I'd go for
Best: The Snowmen
Worst: The Next Doctor

(Giant cyberking stamping and crushing all over Victorian London does it for me, then just watching and looking at the Doc in the balloon while he gets his gear ready to zap them- might as well have added the cybermen on board checking their watches and yawning while they waited. It has comic value- I'll give it that )

Best: A Christmas Carol

The rest are a poor bunch, but the worst has to be a toss up between The End of Time and The Runaway Bride

OK, from best to worst

1. The Snowmen (10/10) - good Christmas atmosphere, fantastic plot, great introduction of Clara, creative enemies and very immaginative and interesting episode. My second favorite after Human Nature / The Family of Blood
2. The Doctor, The Window and The Wardrobe (7 or 8/10) - Many people complain that the episode is 'fairytalish'. But what else Doctor Who should be? If you don't like magic and fantasy, Doctor Who is not a show for you. Although plot could be better, the episode is very creative and Christmas atmosphere is also very good.
3. The Christmas Invasion (4 or 5/10) - Good introduction of Tenth Doctor, but making so many invasions made a show very unconvincing in RTD era. I liked rotating Christmas Tree.
4. A Christmas Carol (3/10) - Good Christmas atmosphere (liked fishes) but the plot was not so good and the ending was too depresing. Especially for a Christmas story,
5. The End of Time (2/10) - Christmas story in-name-only. The episode has less Christmas elements then Waters of Mars.

Other I haven 't watched. Sometimes I skip Christmas specials.
