I live in the UK but spend time in Spain. I recently bought a WD TV Live SMP (Version 1.16.3) to allow me to access BBC iPlayer when in Spain. Following online advice, I avoided any firmware updates after leaving the UK, but was unable to actually play any BBC programmes - I was able to select the required BBC channel, and programme, but it refused to activate it.

I then took out a trial with Unotelly, which has allowed my netbook to access iPlayer programmes, but gave a very faltering performance on the WD SMP. Unotelly had also stated "WDTV Live Owners - US and UK WDTV Live offer different channels. You can choose to have US or UK apps to be available on your WDTV Live.
After choosing this setting, please reset your WDTV Live to factory default (reset all settings except online services account) for the new setting to take effect."

Unfortunately, this resulted in the iPlayer ap being removed from my WD SMP! I have tried with different DNS addresses but with no success. I have also tried to reset the location on the WD SMP but always with the result “The WD TV was unable to detect this WD TV’s current location”

I don't want to take out a subscription with Unotelly or Unblock US without knowing that I can use the WD SMP. Any help would be gratefully received!

Incidentally, my Spanish broadband comes via a single cable 'modem' followed by a TP Wireless Router. I was able to get iPlayer perfectly on the WD SMP before I left the UK.

Have a look at www.tunlr.net . It works for me in Portugal on my Windows 7 computers and it is free. I don't know if it will work with your kit.

I tried an Android Smart TV box and it used to work with Tunlr DNS settings but something changed and BBC iPlayer no longer supports it. However, SmartyDNS have a 14 day free trial period and I can access BBC iPlayer on my Smart TV box now. I might pay the annual premium of 49 US dollars when the trial period expires.

In the meantime, after some fiddling about, I re-entered the Unotelly UK server DNS (see http://www.unotelly.com/unodns/global) and this time I was able to actually achieve a new Location - but this time it was for the US! Plenty more aps, but still no iPlayer!

Problem solved - I was changing the computer DNS values as required, but not the Wireless Router! I did get there eventually by reading ALL the documentation.

In the meantime, I had e-mailed Onetelly, and they responded very quickly with a confirmation of the steps I had taken, and even offered to extend the free trial until this was sorted out!
