As someone posted before in another thread. These new consoles are miles more powerful than our current gen, so just sit back and relax they'll both be good.

So true, if spec and "power" is all people care about then my pc would murder both the ps4 and the xbone combined, I could out pace them in every regard. Doesnt mean anything though, "power" doesnt not equal fun.

(and apart from the new Rome 2 game, most of the games I play would run fine on the current gen. Games make the system, not the other way around)

What do PS3 owners enjoy and brag about most?

Exclusives.

So why is it so important about power?

The PS3 is the most powerful on paper, but nobody buys the PS3 for that reason! Try the games and PSN+, thats why people rave about the PS3.

Forget all this bull.

Consoles are not about having the most powerful gaming device. They are about value for money.

Consoles offer the most value for money, gaming wise.

In the context of consoles you then have to pick based on the things they provide. Specs/power plays into that.

So does price. So do games.

It is about which one offers the best value to you, people aren't buying a PS4 just because it is the most powerful console ever made, they're buying it partly because it is the most powerful console.

Partly, but also who owns Naughty Dog?

Ms prevailing? While launching in only 13 countries? Haha

if devs use the console to its full power. I can see pc gamers getting ps4 as their second console.

why? Power's not everything, if there was a half decent racing game on PC every base would be covered.

Both machines will be great, if you're only planning on buying one then direct comparisons won't matter anyway and if you plan on getting both then it also doesn't matter.

For me all I want is that the xbox one can play games at native 1080p 60 fps. I think only forza and battlefield have been announced at being able to do this? Anyone know of a site that states the specs for all games?

I am a bit worried with these 2, esp ki, its just a simple fighting game -

Killer instinct - 720p 60 fps
Dead rising - 1080p 30 fps (I did read they were asking ms to help them achieve this though - prob just drop the on screen zombie count)

The fact that i bought a Wii this generation says it all really. For me it's always been about the games.

Having said that my main reason for not buying the xbox one first is the stunt microsoft pulled unveiling the console to the masses. Sure, they may have back tracked since but the damage was done. I'll maybe pick one up in a few years at cut price but for now Sony has my custom.

Besides, i love naughty dog, PS+ is great value for money and the console itself is cheaper. Games wise i'm struggling to think what Microsoft has? I think everyone is fed up with Gears and Halo isn't Halo without bungie so i see tough times ahead for Microsoft.

this +1.

Same feelings as you mate. I enjoyed gears of war but thought judgement was crap. Halo was just like "wtf? this is a flagship game???". Although I did kind of enjoyed Halo 4 and may reacquire an xbox 360 in future just for those games.

The initial announcement issues and the focus on TV, which we still have no idea how it will work in the UK, is what has put me off.

60FPS doesn't bother me as I don't think it benefits all type of games but I agree that 1080p should be the norm this gen, well I hope it is.

Battlefield is not known.

COD will be 1080p60, though.

Yeah native 1080p as standard should have been both there targets. I think both have said that they will be able to do 4k movies but not games. Plus I have no intention in jumping on the 4k tv band wagon. Come 7 years time hopefully we will be looking at 8k TV's and gaming.

I am waiting for one of these, but in all reality I will probably get a projector buy then

So for me I don't see the point in pumping in extra power if it is not needed, plus the x1 can always use the cloud for extra computing if need be.

Yeah, personally, I'm really surprised that they are still going to release games at 720P in this generation. I think both MS and Sony should have required all full retail games (fair enough allow 720P for indie games, where they may not have the resources) to be 1080P.

If either console (PS4/XBone) can't do 60FPS and 1080P then they are seriously underspecified. Anyone who remembers back to 2006 and the pre PS3 launch buzz, Sony were saying the PS3 would standardise 1080P and 60FPS which no where near happened (though to be fair the PS3 does better than 360 in this regard), a whole generation later I think it should be the standard by now.

Also what about 3D? Really surprised at least the odd one or two launch games aren't trying to include it for those that shelled out for it in their tellies, this is one area all that extra power could be put to good use as the current generation really only began to scratch the surface in this regard.

Both manufacturers have said their machines are "capable" of 3D but neither are using it as a selling point.

Recent CODs have been in 3D, as has Killzone so we may yet see something. 3D can also be retrofitted by a patch, so even if games don't support it at launch due to tight schedules, it could be added later on.

Also, Sony have 'allegedly' been using a 3D version of Driveclub to show off its prototype head-mounted display.

^^^ This. Anyway when was the last time the most powerful console of a generation ended up being the top seller of that generation? it's the games that matter, not the hardware. Both will sell enough to be viable so all the arguing is stupid, those mindlessly defending or attacking a games console need to go away and have a long think about their lives.

3D gaming didn't really take off did it. I like it myself as I think it adds to the experience.

Totally, I don't have a 3D TV myself but who knows my next one might be and so long as it doesn't harm the 'standard' game experience (e.g. them making the graphics simpler to accommodate the 3D option) then I see no reason not to include it (at least as an option or later addition as someone mentioned).

I agree there seems to have been a bit of decline in 3D content lately, which is a shame as Sony had been doing pretty well implementing it on PS3 and even patching games to support it, like why did they make all those 3D TVs if we are just going to go back to having everything 2D only again, plus with the extra power 3D on next gen could be much more involving and immersive than what we have seen so far.

For the games I play, 60fps is more important than 1080p. To be honest, when I play current generation games, I'm not thinking the resolution is rubbish. What bothers me is things like draw distance and objects suddenly blinking into existence.

Also what about 3D?
Nobody wants to talk about 3D. No-one wants to hear about it, either; it's now seen as a past fad.

VR headsets will be the next fad, but they aren't quite ready.
