Does anyone think that the next Big Brother should be filmed entirely in widescreen instead of 4:3? I hate watching programs on my widescreen TV with bars down the side or stretched images!

You can also see more of whats going on either side of what the camera is looking at, especially when viewing through whole house.

I don't think many of us care that much.........

It's about the people on it, not the shape of the screen.

True, but you've got to admit, widescreen is much better and allows the viewer to see more of the house at once.

The trouble is that the reverse is true for people with 4:3 screen in having black bars top and bottom.

I would, however, like to see it in Widescreen as it is a more natural aspect ratio.

I have a wide screen TV and don't get the bars down the side - maybe you should invest in a better TV that adjusts the picture for you.

Have you tried adjusting the settings on your tv?
My ws has several options one of which is "auto" - this automatically fills the screen regardless of which format is being transmitted without distortion of small fat bodies.

Widescreen would be nice, but having multiple feeds (again) on the red button view would be even better!

At last, somebody who feels the same as I do . Why should we be told what to watch. If you'd missed something vital, it was an opportunity to see it later (especially any arguements!!).

Don't laugh! - it will save me queuing up.

Start a campaign and send it to endemol and I can then just turn up in a limmo!

I promise to have a sex change, do rap 24/7 and read my Bible and look down on other HMs, whilst issuing death threats and smashing the place up!

Going by the skinflint nature of Endemol I can't see it happening any time soon. They are too tight to pay for music royalties for live coverage so I don't think they will stretch to the massive cost of replacing all the cameras with widescreen ones. Maybe if the BB house is rebuilt at a different location.

Definitely agree with the comments about the feeds. The Live A & B choice and the +2 and +4 hour feeds are much missed by me.

My TV has got a setting to fill the screen without bars or distorting the image, but it does it by zooming into the image so the picture fills the screen, but I lose the top and bottom of the picture.

For some reason, viewing widescreen on a 4:3 TV in letterbox format doesnt bother me, but bars down the side on widescreen tv's do.

Although with C4 & E4 broadcasting in widescreen, the chances of Big Brother in widescreen is slim. The main reason for this is that all the cameras are the standard 4:3, and the cost of some of the aerial cameras and those cctv style cameras would cost a fortune. I'm all for widescreen, but can't see Endemol & the production team binning all those specialist cameras for those capable of producing widescreen pictures. It ain't gonna happen. Having seen clips from other BB's in other countries, I haven't seen one in widescreen.

I suppose they could show the eviction evening & BBLB in widescreen, but for the clips in the house, the old black bars would be there, unless they had the BB eye in the background, similar to the effects that the BBC have with outside broadcasts not shown in widescreen on Grandstand for example.

They could replace the main cameras and then just "convert" the image from the smaller remote cameras. (slight loss in line resolution when discarding the top and bottom of the 4:3 image, but it would be hardly noticable by the time it gets to us.)

But as you say, they won't do it!

Imagine 4:3 as a square (not quite but it will do!)

If you cut off a strip off the top and the same off the bottom, you are going to be left with an oblong shape or widescreen - so you can "mask off" a picture like that and transmit the oblong as a widescreen picture.

Technically you loose scan lines that you have cut off top and bottom so the picture is "technically" not as good quality as proper widescreen cameras.

Also, you have to tell the cameramen/women that you are doing that and they will then put masking tape on their viewfinders and compose the picture in the middle of the oblong - If not, you will end up cutting the tops off people's heads.

Ya can't do that !!

We wouldn't be able to see the informative and educational txt msgs that add enormous value to our BB experience.

Correction:

...that add enormous value to BB's pocket!

They could use the money to buy some more cameras!

How much are these cameras? Are we sure that the existing cameras cant do widescreen? Do we even know what model's the cameras they use are?
