Bryan Kirkwood - The grim reaper
vkmax
15-09-2013
I made a comment the other day about how many people are dying on HO recently so I had a look at the deaths list from Hollyoaks...Bryan Kirkwood is the grim reaper.

During his original stint he killed 18 people of which 13 were murder or manslaughter.

In his second stint 11 have died none from natural causes (all murder, explosions, gun shots)

41 residents of Hollyoaks have died since September 2006, Kirkwood saw 29 of them off and 30 were either murdered or killed in a fire/explosion.

I love Hollyoaks stunts but I'd be much more interested in seeing someone suffer a permanent disability and dealing with it than everyone constantly being killed. The murdering is ridicilous especially as only Warren and Brendan are in prison the rest of the killers are dead themselves or wandering around freely.

While I agree the death rate is a tad high, if you look at some parts of the UK, the is nigh on normal.

His biggest most horrendous murder was EE

come on you set me up for that one

I'm still waiting for the punchline

There's only been 5 deaths this year, and is say that is pretty under average for them.

Death is the cheapest form of drama. No wonder BK is an expert.

I like the way HO is more out there with violence and death and stuff. With HO, the writers throw big issues in this world on to one street which is why it comes across unrealistic as obviously that much stuff doesn't happen on one street. But it's what makes HO unique and gives it it's own mark.

With HO you can always guarantee something interesting and exciting his going on, that's why I tune in.

Don't get me wrong, at times it can easily be on par with ED, CS and EE, but they're all about slow burning drama, I like how HO is quick and drama filled all the time. I like how they do big stunts all the time, and how they have a high cast turnover, they're the most original soap on air at the moment.

At times, ED, CS and EE can feel so similar to each other, just with different characters. You can know HO is it's own soap, it's not a copy. Bryan Kirkwood is amazing with HO, he's truly meant for it because he loves sensationalism, and that's what makes HO great.

Well said I agree with every word you just said.

In my opinion HO is the only original soap left. The whole soap with the way it tells stories, the way the episodes are set out and what they do makes it original.

Thanks, and yes I agree. HO is not agree to jump the shark, and when it does, it doesn't feel like it. HO is original, ED, CS and EE are afraid and apprehensive about doing stuff like this now. HO doesn't give a damn and it works out for them.

HO is really underrated, and so is Bryan Kirkwood. He didn't work for EE because EE isn't that kind of show, he definitely works for HO. I'll be sad when he leaves HO, if he does, any time soon.

Is it definitely dead then?

Or is there a Hollyoaks-style twist?

Every week there seems to be a death/fire on HO, don't get me wrong, there are some still really good characters/actors left on the show, but it's so stupid after a while. Darren, Tony, Nancy and Cindy are the best actors left in the show now, imo.

The acting is fine for me I think there's very very few weak links for the first time in about 6/7 years.

I just want to see some more creative exits than death...Myra and Jacqui pretty much had the same exit...on the run because of lying to the same gangster, secret extra scenes added the next episode.

Meh. It's a soap it's not meant to be realistic, i don't care how high the death rate is. I don't want to watch a story about a vegetable thief or a kid's lost pet snake. So i watch Hollyoaks. It won't let me down in that regard.
