Best answer ever.

Well, I'd still have the same initials so I wouldn't have to change my signature. What harm can it do?
Do it.

Well then, there's only one alternative. A lovely picture of lovely Nicky
No.

Oh weird. Just found this via a twitter chain.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jCYDAv5Oi4

It's claiming to be a new single by 5 Seconds of Summer (whoever that are), but the audio is Answerphone.

What's more amusing is all these girls below going OMG IT'S PERFECT thinking it's whoever this band are.
That is ****ing hilarious.

Whoever posted that is my new hero.

You're not really in 5 seconds of summer's demographic dear. They're an Australian pop group, they were supporting one direction on their tour, and they have a huge social media presence.

I love how no-one has pointed out that it's Nicky either!

Amazing isn't it? And what's the betting that half of these girls saying it's amazing will magically change their opinion when they realise it's not who they've predetermined their adolescent allegiance to.

I've just looked them up. They've got like 1.6 million followers on twitter, so presumably have quite a following (possibly due to having supported 1D)

But yeah, this girls twitter that I found it through is all 'OMG it doesn't really sound like them but I love it', 'Is it them though it doesn't really sound like them but OMG it's perfect' etc etc and then finally 'GUYS IT'S FAKE IT'S NOT 5SOS IT'S NICKY MCDONALDS NEW SINGLE ANSWERPHONE'

I wonder whether it's a prank, a mistake (both acts are on Sony labels so entirely possible it's human error) or whether it's a REALLY GENIUS form of cross marketing - a bit like when Stock Aitken And Waterman put out Roadblock on an uncredited white label and all the hip black American radio stations played it to death without realising it was the same honky people responsible for Rick Astley.

Whatever, it's AMAZING.

Of course they will, without batting an eyelid. I hate people.

I love the youtube comments, just a few sly 'gosh doesn't it sound different from their usual stuff * type things.

God, I hadn't thought of that, if it is it's ****ing genius. Scarily genius.

Well I guess it's like that quote I posted a lifetime ago, about Justin Bieber's manager's 'let the kids think they made you' tactics. I suppose it's that psychopathic thing about successful people, I totally buy into that (**** you, academia).

Whatever, it's AMAZING.
Yes it is. Completely and brilliantly amazing. Love it

Well, it would be the perfect illustration of your earlier point about prejudicial inclinations.

Dude, even I had heard of them.
Oh, really? ****. It's happened hasn't it. I'm officially out of touch. Soon I'll be saying something's got a 'good beat' but complaining that I can't understand a word they're saying.

I guess so. Which also ties into just how many young girls post about how they're 'proud' of Nicky. But we may well have already covered that.

And of course, it's always nice to be proven right...

But it does tie in with the idea of brilliant (astonishingly brilliant) cross-marketing, because perhaps some more self-aware 5SoS fans will react to the truth by claiming they only liked Nicky's song because it's so good it could be by 5SoS, etc etc etc.

I know I'm as bad, but at least I'm aware of it. That's all I ask!

Oh, really? ****. It's happened hasn't it. I'm officially out of touch.
Hey hey hey, just because I've heard of a band you haven't must mean you're out of touch? I could be the coolest person in the world, just because on the internet no one knows you're a dog doesn't mean someone actually is one.

I mean, I know the odds are against it and all, but still, it's possible isn't it?

Not even slightly?

Oh

Yeah I guess so! Though inevitably you'll get the ones who say 'Oh I knew it wasn't them, because it's shit' BUT I suppose it doesn't matter. It's already got the song to reach more, different people and some will still like it afterwards - more preconceptions challenged on the way.

Oh, how lovely it would be to think there might actually be a marketing genius at play behind Nicky, after all the fears that he would just be shoved out with little or no effort. I certainly prefer the idea of it being deliberate

Haha, yeah, true, some kind of manic genius mastermind behind it all would be a very nice thing.

We can hope!

*taps foot, waits for adulation*

Edit: I've just read this back, I'm terribly sorry; I may have been married too long and assume I can just do the 'love me or else' face and get away with it. Sorry

Is that a quote from a film? Because some fan of Luke's just got herself tattooed with a film quote because she thought it was a lyric he wrote.

Oh, wait, I forgot to say goodnight; I was having an early night tonight (*looks at clock, scoffs*) so I could go and try to get my hair cut in the morning. They're very strange, possibly occult hairdressers; they won't take appointments, you just turn up and they decide whether or not they'll cut your hair. And if they decide to, it costs twenty quid and is the best haircut you've ever had. They're probably witches.

And it wasn't? That's amazing!

It was the top line of the tattoo that Nicky fan had down, which came from his profile on twitter. I don't know where it came from originally, but as far as I'm concerned Nicky invented it.

(Incidentally, I went back and looked at the pic of that tattoo and I agree the bottom line was almost certainly fake - top line probably real)

Best haircut I ever had was when I'd just moved to Peckham and innocently walked into what turned out to be an exclusively black barber's. Entering was a little like the opening pub scene in American Werewolf In London - everyone turned and looked at me like WTF (though thankfully the music didn't stop). Not wanting to appear racist in that very awkward English, middle class way, I felt I couldn't possibly leave and find a more suitable establishment. So I waited. My turn came and I sat down in the chair. The guy asked me what I wanted. I explained. He informed me he could only use clippers and if I wanted scissors to be involved in any way I'd have to wait for the only guy there who used them at all. So I waited again until my turn came round again. He spent about 2 hours on it, cutting away tiny piece by tiny piece, doing additional sculpting with a cut-throat razor and I swear, it was ****ing AMAZING.

And yeah, I should sleep too. Tomorrow needs to be a much more productive day. Plus, you know, Nicky's on Daybreak tomorrow \o/

To be fair to the girl, he has kind of appropriated it, but to tattoo yourself forever with a line that your current favourite crush has pinched from a film on the grounds that it reflects his immense creativity and insight is pretty ****ing unfortunate.

I mean, ffs, do a bit of research first, even if she didn't want to analyse the whole thing to death the slightest bit of googling would have shown her where he got it from.

Ahh, yeah, I remember. It sounds like some inspirational speaker BS to me, but it's harmless enough.

Oh is it the 'We accept the love we think we deserve' thing? What's it from? Oh I can google it, can't I? But that's no fun.

*tattoos self again, makes note to google later, note in tattoo form*

Ahh, yeah, I remember. It sounds like some inspirational speaker BS to me, but it's harmless enough.
Yep yep. Or a self-help book. But hey, if it's worked for Nicky (I get the feeling he's battled a lack of confidence at some point despite his amazing voice) that's fair enough.

Well you know, you diss my man, you diss me, you know?
Oh, my lyrics quote went over your head? *disappointed face*

By man do you mean your husband. Or that mangirl what was on the XF?

Woof woof.

Yeah well I'm still wide awake, it's all your fault.

Me too. I stupidly went back and reread the last few pages of this thread and chortled myself out of potential slumber. So yeah, your fault.

Night! (Even if I don't go to sleep now I'm going to at least pretend I am, so as not to look completely unprofessional given my impending workload tomorrow. I'll probably be listening to Answerphone and wishing I was 17 all over again)

P.S. Have you put your pre-order in yet?

God, we're such enablers.

Yes it is! From the perks of being a wallflower which as every *winces* #friendie knows, is Mr Friend's favourite film. So much so that he pinched a line from it for one of his own songs (openly and honestly pinched, not 'oh **** I've been caught' pinched).

So I mean, not only that, but also that. FFFS.

*tattoos self again, makes note to google later, note in tattoo form*
*dies laughing* *manages final - tattooed - j'accuse note blaming mmpfb*

I agree, if he's not claiming it as his insight or w/e then fine, cool, nae wurries.

Oh, my lyrics quote went over your head? *disappointed face*
They landed eventually

By man do you mean your husband. Or that mangirl what was on the XF?
Well I went back to look and actually it seemed to be **** all to do with either of them, it would appear that I was just babbling. Astonishing and unprecedented, I know.

And better a mangirl than a - a - well, a boygirl. Ha! (you better believe how firmly I typed that ! after 'ha', it was the most emphatic thing I've ever done in my life!).

Woof woof.
I was kinda hoping for 'roar, roar' at least. Not in a Katy Perry kind of way either, in a majestic beast prowling the snowy plains kind of way. *roars hopefully*

Me too. I stupidly went back and reread the last few pages of this thread and chortled myself out of potential slumber. So yeah, your fault.
Lol, I did exactly the same I blame you, entirely!

Actually *whispers* we could blame singlefish, I think she's quite troubleshome *stops whispering* Did you see that sunset the other day? Amazing stuff.

Oddly enough I typed boygirl and then changed it. Probably to avoid potential slanderous retorts.

That song just makes me think of Sam B's Alan Partridge-esque roar-claw gestures that she did in the final.

Actually *whispers* we could blame singlefish, I think she's quite troubleshome *stops whispering* Did you see that sunset the other day? Amazing stuff.
Yeah, she's mischievous, fo sho. A meta-troll. I imagine her poised at her troll-station, multiple monitors keeping a simultaneous eye on hundreds of forums all over the web, casually dropping troll-bombs while sipping her tea and nibbling on homemade shortbread.

Oddly enough I typed boygirl and then changed it. Probably to avoid potential slanderous retorts.
I was going to babble on about how attractive androgyny is but it feels a bit early in the morning for that :/

That song just makes me think of Sam B's Alan Partridge-esque roar-claw gestures that she did in the final.

Of course I didn't! Seems like I didn't miss anything though from Cake's post

Honestly, these PR gaffes could have a real cumulative negative impact. Someone needs to sort out internal communications. Maybe it'll be on tomorrow instead.

*Hopes*

Never got the androgyny thing. I guess I'm not bisexual enough.

When? Apparently he didn't even have the grace to keep his VT appointment on Daybreak. No one understands. Omgilysm.

I was a hilarious adolescent. It's only in adulthood I've learned how to be a miserable ****.

I wonder what happened :s I suppose maybe they've just decided to broadcast it another day. Not great with girlies watching it specifically, though.

Also, I wonder what that clip I linked to was from in that case.

I thought I recognized the guys from Kingsland Road in the background.
If that is correct it must be from one of the first weeks of the life shows.
