He nearly did!”

Yep okay okay! But it's worth remembering that was with the help of some serious pimping and, of course, considerable brakes applied to Nicky's momentum.

I've pretty much settled on the idea of it purely being to do with show narrative. The show is bigger than any of the acts, even Leona. What is good for the show is good for Cowell, even if they end up not selling many records.

Certainly very plausible.

It's not like he didn't give you the chance now, is it?

You've only got yourself to blame.

I want to see Luke live. Before they completely destroy him

I know I was dithering. But now I'm gutted I'm not going. I'm so ****ing indecisive sometimes. I doubt I'll be able to find anyone to go with either. Bah!

He's doing a following spree later. For 'true' supporters. I still won't get followed despite having been there since the very start (like so many girlies are fond of saying). But no doubt, some insipid tweenie prone to vowell-vomit will.

It's not easy being me.

Aye. I'm full of frustration. I have to get back to work imminently otherwise I'd be poised over my computer ready to throw dignity to the wind and spambeg for a follow whenever he comes back on.

This being an obsessive fan thing is bloody hard work.

I understand the frustration though. Things like that 'for the true supporters' comment are going to be a bit gutting for dedicated fans that don't get 'noticed' (sorry for using that word, it's not meant meanly this time). You see that with Luke too, he replies to some fans and there are a thousand others bitching about him having favourites and intentionally ignoring them.

They can't win, the fans can't win. It's a losing game.

Yeah I know. I don't know why it bothers me, really. Ultimately it's all a bit silly wanting a follow. But for some reason I'm so stupidly invested. It's both a hugely enjoyable and quite magical thing being all fangirly, but it's also very frustrating at times. I think I'm starting to understand, actually, that the whole thing is a little addictive, a little druggish. And I can sort of see how people end up standing in the rain for the vague chance of an autograph etc for the first time in my life. That's a little scary!

"X Factor winner Sam Bailey and Nicholas McDonald set for chart battle"

Fair competition?
Nicky gets 2 lines (including 1 for intro)
Sam gets 5 lines (including 1 for intro)

Seems to be in line with the general media narrative, unfortunately. It could also be that they just had some quotes from Sam and didn't have any from Nicky. *shrug*

I saw Sam B on Jonathan Ross the other day and I was a bit agog at how he introduced her. He said something along the lines of 'Wasn't it wonderful to see her win. Everyone wanted her to win blah blah' and I was just thinking 'Erm, no? That's not quite right?' Everyone was told they should want her to win.

It's very unlikely, as some (undiscerning) people will buy her album just because it's the X Factors winner's album, but I'd *love* Nicky to outsell her. I shouldn't, because she seems perfectly nice, but I really resent the way she's bolstered by the XF and various media outlets, and we're told we should think she's amazing even though she's essentially an impressive but unsubtle theatrical bellower.

It makes me feel kind of toxic, tbh. I hate being invested :/ I keep thinking I should just unfollow and stop reading forums and stuff and just mentally switch off from it all.

It's addictive because it's all about exploiting emotions. Which isn't nice, or fair.

Wth is with all the 'power of positive thinking' quotes he (his mother?) keeps tweeting?!

Hmm. It's definitely a love/hate thing for me. Can't help it though. It can be very invigorating. But I guess that might be a sign my real life is somewhat lacking!

Well, I think I alluded to the fact that I think he's struggled with self-confidence prior to entering the XD. Rewatching the Arenas it struck me that prior to singing his VT was very much about him not feeling he looked like a pop star and all these people around him (fellow auditionees) did. Who knows what might be at the root of that, but I suspect the most likely candidate would be height if he's as small as it seems.

RIght around when I followed him his twitter background was to do with that 'Dream Believe Achieve' thing. I'm guessing that, as easy as it is to dismiss as meaningless cheese, he feels that appropriating that attitude has actually gotten him over a barrel. And fair play, if repeating that as a mantra to himself allowed him to get over whatever was holding him back and go for it on the XF, then you can see why he would be invested in it. I kinda identify, tbh, as undoubtedly I've failed to capitalise on many an opportunity in my life due to a tendency for crippling self-doubt (and low cringe-threshold)

Plus, you know, it must be quite hard to come up with interesting stuff to tweet when you;re 17. I certainly had nothing interesting to say at that age other than 'tee hee penises'

Lol, true

And yeah, I'm not criticising the sentiment and if it's helped him it's great, I believe in positive thinking myself (even if I keep failing to practice it). It just seems really incongruous and it always ends up seeming fake whoever says it because of all the money-grabbing charlatans.

But yeah, better that than 'best tit shot gets a follow go go go'.
