I do know that a certain duplicitous judge is reputed to be a frequent visitor, though I suspect that this might be one occasion he's not to be seen there

Well the Candy production was high camp, so maybe old Loulou was thinking ahead!

I know a lot of ex factor acts have performed at GAY, but is it a certain type of act, like the poppy ones? I can't imagine James Arthur doing it!

It's usual for all the acts to perform there, other than winners who usually go straight onto the Syco promotion machine I suppose. I'm not aware of anyone other than winners not having done it.

Just read that Sam performed New Year's Eve there. Don't know if that's a good sign for her or not as a winner.

Oh really? I could imagine she'd have gone down well if she performed Enough is Enough and Edge Of Gloty - that's the sort of thing they'd lap up I'd imagine.

Maybe the winners do often perform after all. As I said, I've only ever been once for about 15 minutes so I'm not overly versed!

Hmm. Doesn't look like JA did it last year. Jahmene did though which surprises me a little with his 'churchyness'.

If Jahmene went down well, I wouldn't have any worries about Nick.

Sam did look suitably diva, with her long, sequinned 'basseyesque' gown

I know. I guess I just worry that us English are going to be all anti-Scottish!

Off topic, but I really never EVER got Sam's styling. Jumpsuits or ball-gowns. WTF was that all about? But yeah, if she did all the fierce diva-posturing I imagine the gays would have loved her. They love a bit of tack

Oh dear. i just had a look on twitter again. How do people cope with the attention of teenage girls, seriously? They're SO passive-aggresive. I saw one implying she was going to slit her wrists if she didn't get a follow. There was another of some girl tweeting a picture of a dm she'd sent him asking if it was true he was doing a gig at G-A-Y that was for over 18s when his fans are girls of 13 plus - talk about possessive!

It's horrific, Luke's are just the same, all endless demands for follows and talk about self-harm and massive tantrums about being ignored. It's awful, I sincerely hope neither of them ever looks at it, quick route to insanity surely.

Yep, and they wonder why they don't get noticed when there's literally hundreds of girls all saying the same thing. 'Follllllloooooowwww meeeeeeee'. It's a really odd phenomenon. What do they gain from a follow other than bragging rights? Further entertainment of their fantasy of marriage down the line? I really don't get it.

To paraphrase Ali G - "Is it cos I is Scottish?" .

Seriously though, I really hope the timing alone is not a deciding factor in his success south of the border. Re the GAY audience, they have perhaps had their own experiences of prejudice and hopefully won't be so small minded.

It's hard to miss, really. I can't imagine that they haven't looked at it - and probably thought what on earth they had got themselves into LOL

I die a little inside whenever I read the replies to tweets/instagrams/facebook posts etc etc. I don't know why I keep doing it to myself.

It's not just them, but the pals of the finalists who are becoming coveted followers! Watching Nicky's, the pals obviously loved the adulation by proxy at the start. Now the wee girlies are like 'why isn't so and so replying to me, I though the loved me!!" . What a circus!

Honestly, it's like a whole different world! I must say though it is fascinating. I'm really unsure as to how anyone can think sending these undignified protestations to a remote figure of affection is likely to endear themselves to them, hormonally charged or not.

Do any of the ladies here have recollections of behaving in an equivalent manner in their teenage years? i mean, I get the whole having a crush thing, but doesn't one keep that private? Or at least mask it in some studied form of cool? Or is that just boys who do that?

If I crush on someone I tend to let them know. May not always be the best approach, but I like to be honest

The difference is, I have a sense of decorum. If I met Luke, I'd tell him how cute (and talented, I ain't so shallow hah) I thought he was, but I wouldn't hang off his sleeve and beg for him to follow me on twitter or else.

Yeah, I think we can all have moments of madness when it comes to crushes. But but but…. DOING IT ON TWITTER IN PUBLIC?!!!

And then you get the random person here and there tweeting hate. Honestly, you can see how people can get f***ed up from that sort of polarised attention 24 hours a day. I hope he manages to keep a good head on his shoulders.

Luke will be fine, but I worry about Nicky. I don't know why I get the feeling that he is waaayyy more likely to be negatively impacted by all this

No, I must admit as a female, I remember having such strong crushes and standing screaming at them while they sang or even at the hotels we knew they were staying in. It was such a sense of longing for them to just notice you. Social media now gives them more of a glimpse of an opportunity and I can totally understand the excitement of having a 'follow'. Screeeeeaaaaaaam!!!!

...and yes, I do worry about the impact on Nicky. I still think he is far too young and he would have been better left alone for a wee while.

Dude, I don't mind other people knowing I find someone hot. Yeah, it may be slightly embarrassing to all involved (including myself :P) but it is healthy to get those feels out there (I'm nuts I know)

Difference is I give a compliment, not make them want to file a restraining order

The act that gets voted off each week once lives start perform at G-A-Y.

All sorts of acts perform, it's no big deal.

Hmm. I think that's because Nicky seems younger than Luke, even though there's not much in it. The one thing that reassures me is that he seems completely unfazed by it so far - I mean he's off out to Nandos are Asda or wherever and all these girls are tweeting pics of them with him, and he seems totally calm and friendly about it all.

One of the things that made me laugh though was how English girls are suddenly typing 'yous' instead of 'you'. You watch, he's going to popularise Scottish slang!

Haha love it! When you think about it, it makes perfect grammatical sense!
