I'm not sure any of us will be able to see it, but apparently Nicky is going to be on TwoTube TV tomorrow (Irish programme). Hopefully someone will upload it to youtube.

It seems Nicky is really popular over in Ireland which has got me thinking.

Let's assume Scotland gain independence after the vote in September. I know this idea might be frowned upon BUT if Scotland entered the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 and Nicky was their representative, he might actually do better than whatever crap the BBC throw up as the UK's representative. Scotland and Ireland trading 12 points to each other whilst the UK look on with gritted teeth as they get snubbed by both, and well...the whole of Europe. lol

It might allow Nicky to utilise that as a launchpad to get his music heard across Europe.

Just a thought.

Urgh. No no no no NO!

Nicky is way better than that.

But yeah he does seem to have a big following in Ireland. I wonder if they're more inclined to like him through a shared affinity, or whether the English are slightly anti-Scottish. Or whether it's just Irish fans are much more vocal on twitter.

Hey! Don't consign him to Eurovision before he's even properly started!

Which part of Ireland is showing him the attention? I know there was a bit of a drama over Nicky innocently draping the tricolour around his shoulders (a fan had thrown it). This obviously has huge political and religious connotations in the North. He was getting great support from one section but criticism from the other. He's also a Celtic fan and a good Catholic boy

He's a Rangers fan!

Well, I think he is, I'm sure I've seen a picture of him in a Rangers shirt.

He's Roman Catholic. That's not to say he'd not be a Rangers fan, just unusual in the west of Scotland . I may be wrong....

I think his family are all fairly religious actually. There was an article from when X Factor just started so around September last year and it mentioned that Nicky had found time to sing at a mass with his parish choir.

He also made the sign of the cross live on X Factor on the results show when it was Big Band week after his name was called out last. Being a "good Catholic boy" myself, I noticed this and had even more respect for the lad after that.

Update on the mash up, it's starting to sound more like a remix than a mash up.

I might upload another clip for you all to listen to so I can get some feedback. Mixing Someone Like You with Believe was so much easier in comparison.

I've decided that it's going to be called The AnswerphOne.

I noticed this too and I've also seen a pic of him making his first holy communion. He attended St Aiden's Catholic school. Doesn't mean he can't support Rangers though, just unusual.

Oh ok. Isn't that really frowned upon? Like isn't Celtic the Catholic team and Rangers the protestant? Or am I imagining that whole divide to be worse than it actually is as an outsider?

(see also the video clip in this article)

His church is definitely Roman Catholic:

There is often confusion between "Motherwell" and "Wishaw" in the press. "Muirhouse" may be part of Motherwell but eventually belongs to a/the parish in/of Wishaw.

Quote:
“"...Nicholas and mum Eileen live in Muirhouse with dad Derrick, brothers Kevin, 18 and Lewis,13, and his sister Antonia, 8."”

Ok, brace yourself!!!

My so called "mash up" now has a chorus I've been working on. Been difficult to get the music to fit. Basically pitched a couple of bars to the correct key, filtered the samples and layered the dance beat over the top so that it didn't sound too clunky.

I still think it sounds clunky.

It doesn't help that I don't have an acapella of Answerphone. Even an acoustic version of the song would be helpful as I wouldn't have the concern of the drum track on the orginal clashing with the dance beat.

Have a listen. It sounds like it could be great if done more polished. What do you think?

Harmonically it's working really well (though personally I'd probably take out the steps up back to the root at the end of the chord progression - I don't know if that's you who has done that or whether that's on the source track- but that might just be me). It could definitely be really good. The vocal could definitely do with being more to the fore but without an acapella to work with I don't know how you could do that. I take it you've eq'd the track to strip out as much as you can away from the vocal? Have you tried inverting one channel's waveform and combining them into a mono channel to try and strip out more? The other thing you could try would be to use a side-chained bandpass to really squeeze the frequencies that get through *just* on the points of the main drum hits to try and reduce the original drums so you could push the mean volume of the vocal up a little more?

It sounded like they were mainly voting out his priapic friend and not him though, if that's any consolation.

That's definitely a rangers shirt (wtb spit emote) but who knows what the circumstances of that photo were. He's young enough to be potentially forgiven...

Ah well. I wasn't crushing quite so much on him. He'd worn some bad choices in shirts along the way.

Still, he did favourite my tweet today saying '**** #coachtrip. **** it in the eye', so there's that

Personally I love Eurovision, so I'd be all for this!

It doesn't have to be a shameful thing these days.
