What? I was merely responding to Alex's post about Leah McFall and trying to prove a point.

She's bombed with her first single for the reasons I gave in my previous post.

Besides, what's the harm in being imaginative. It's not like anything would actually come of it, and if it did - and it was successful - you would all be more than happy I'm sure.

Too true, and you're often more random than I am. lol

Oh well, it's generating some form of discussion. Just not the type I expected.

Two things - Nicky is such a generous performer, and, should SamC perhaps give up the day job? I like SamC btw, but I'm sure his real talents lie elsewhere as he doesn't seem that strong vocally.

I think it's nice that they're still friends. In the business they've chosen it's good to have people you can count on.

I think there is space for young talents on big festivals:
This one:
http://www.pukkelpop.be/en/line-up/friday/schedule/
has 8 parallel tracks during 3 days.

I plan to be there for one single day on Friday Aug 15.
In the afternoon acts include John Newman, Ed Sheeran on main stage
Duke Dumont in the Boiler Room (partly overlapping with Ed Sheeran)
and many others.

I think with 8 parallel tracks there is room for a guy like Nicky.
Combine him with a good band and he can make a great show.

Think it was discussed in this thread a while back about the pitfalls to Nicky having his own band.

It's not an issue when you're established and you've got a record company providing a monster budget for the tour etc...

However, Nicky is still starting out. Maybe we need to rein in our enthusiasm and just see how things progress.

If you look at Nicky's twitter feed right now, it's an endless stream of retweets of young girls who have got tickets for his Manchester gig...and it's the third time Nicky has posted a comment that more tickets have gone on sale.

If the venue holds 550 (on average) people, and they're selling "extra" tickets, how many did they actually sell in the first place. Maybe Manchester Academy underestimated just how well these tickets were going to sell.

Whatever the case may be, it does seem promising.

I must admit that even performers with a band give their guys a break from time to time, as Amy Macdonald did last Saturday for launching her new song.
I just uploaded it on:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxkW5yrlC4U
I would qualify it as Glaswegian Country.

Nicky has a spot at Party at the Palace on Sunday, which is great experience for him re festivals. I've been checking the forecast for Linlithgow, and it's actually getting worse. He'll need good waterproofs more than he needs a band at this rate

That's made my day

Nicky is on Pulse Radio just now, speaking about new music before Christmas and a new album coming out early next year. The meetings last week seemed to involve working with songwriters for the album. Lots of stuff he can't speak about yet but he's well excited. Almost as excited as I am

Ohh now that is good news. I hope there's some good and interesting songwriters lined up, that voice deserves it.

Excellent stuff, really hoping the team of songwriters Nicky is working with come up with some brilliant material. I also hope RCA get Nicky out there too ie; radio airplay, music video airplay. It all helps to sell the music/artist and Nicky (and his voice) deserves to have a fantastic team of people working with him.

Grinning!!!

Alex beat me to it.

Just listening now and it's really interesting what Nicky says about X Factor, how they tried to make him look like the quiet boy from Scotland, his sense of humour shining through and he admits to hating Candy by Robbie Williams.

So whoever it was who suggested Nicky might've asked to sing Candy on tour, I think it's safe to say he didn't, he was forced to sing it. Probably by Gary Barlow who was still too busy thinking about the £££ *.* £££ to care less about anything else.

It's lovely how amazed and delighted he is with everything that's happening to him, not quite believing he deserves it.

Don't you just hope he gets the best songs ever for the next album, something he really deserves? Something with more lyrical depth than 'ring a ring of roses......' and properly musical. Barlow was right about one thing, Candy did nothing for Nicky's voice. Didn't stop them forcing it on him though.

You know, that's about the most negative thing I've ever heard him say, he really must have hated singing it. I wish xf took a little more care of their acts.

BiB - I guess that explains the marked difference in main show and Xtra Factor VTs, probably different production teams, with the main show being more 'on message' from up high. The Xtra Factor clips showed so much more of his personality, he was always so funny. It's such a shame that they'll only have been seen by a fraction of those that only watch the main show. Ugh, the way they manipulate everything really grinds my gears.

Still, I'm still buzzing about the news about songwriters etc. I hope they put the time and effort in he deserves and come up with something a little different, but something that's perfect for him - think a little ahead of the curve (i.e. I'd prefer them not to jump on the folky/power pop bandwagon that everyone else seems to be doing at the moment (including Union J!!!). Leave that territory for Luke, as that's clearly why Syco have signed him. So many acts are doing that sound at the moment it'll probably have burnt itself out by next year. Nicky's voice deserves more than lazy trend-hopping.
