Basically, if a show such as XF decided to write you out of their history books, you're pretty much ****ed. It's not just the lack of PR/marketing that's dangerous, if something like that is telling it's audience what you're supposed to like again and again, year after year, it influences people's perceptions. Let's face it, the music press aren't going to pick up the slack, because they'll automatically be sniffy about anything that comes from XF anyway, so it's really the only powerful influencer available to an act like Nicky, until he's established himself independently from it. If they're already skipping over him in recaps of this year's series, then it really doesn't bode well. It's telling people 'these two are the IMPORTANT ones' and starts to build a perception that he's unsuccessful before he's even started his career.
It's not just pr/marketing either. It's investment, access to producers/writers etc. Hopefully it's just ITV being asshats and it's an attitude not shared by his record company but it's a really worrying sign.
