It seems the days of soaps creating legends that everyone in the country were aware of are long gone.

Weather or not you watch EastEnders or Corrie most people are aware of legendary characters like Peggy,Dot,Frank,Pat,Bet,Mike,Vera and Jack

Yes, a lot have potential, but the problem is they don't stay around long enough. Characters like Tina McIntyre and Kylie Platt, sure they'll be remembered as great characters, and it remains to be seen how long Paula Lane will stick around, but they'll never reach that level because it takes many years to craft a character with so many layers, so much history. I know people won't agree but I think Corrie have it right keeping on so many younger long-termers, Fiz looks a likely candidate to take over from Gail eventually.

I suppose Rita, Emily will still be classed as 'legends' from Corrie along with Deirdre and Ken (hopefully?!!).
Emmerdale have got the late Alan 'Tubby' Turner and the late Seth Armstrong. Maybe Betty, Edna & Pearl will become the new 'Ena, Minnie and Martha' ??
As for EE - I reckon Den, Angie, Dot Cotton and Ethel and her 'little willy'!

If she stayed around I think Becky from Corrie would have a good chance. Shame she left but Katherine Kelly is doing pretty well for herself.

Of course, Mandy in Corrie was on her way to becoming a legend before she left to early and don't forget Toni the fireman who was tragically snatched from us at far to young.

Nothing of note to emerge from EE since the 1980's then. Vile programme. Utterly worthless.

Becky definitely would have been a legend. It was quite alarming how popular she got so quickly.

Janine from EE has the potential, and so does Carla from Corrie. I also think, if given the right stories and room to breathe, Beth from Corrie has potential. I don't know why, but there's something about the character.

Brendan Brady but Hollyoaks aren't worthy of him as they couldn't give him a decent exit
