I don't see other people making a song and dance about other soaps.
For the record it has improved a bit but I think that is more to do with the fact they actually have a few big storylines which is what they haven't really had since Heather's death. If anything it just highlights how bad the show has been this past 18 months that people can now actually defend the show. But the reality is this is what should be produced all the time and not just for a couple of weeks each year!”

I think some people are just trying to put a positive spin on it and convince themselves (and others) that things are really not as bad as they are. But things are bad, the show is almost unwatchable and has been for some time.

Last nights episode wasn't particularly special, it was just another filler episode. Nothing much happened. I didn't see all of this great stuff that the OP is talking about? They are obviously building up to Jean leaving with Ollie, and its nice that she'll get a happy ending. But that's it really.

I don't like Ronnie and I never have. She's a sour faced, miserable cow who'd run her course as a character when she left two years ago. Why do Eastenders continually bring back old characters ? They do this more than any other soap and always really hype their returns up, it like they think it will solve all their problems. But nine times out of ten they don't work, they should be putting their efforts into creating new characters instead of constantly dragging up the past.

Or maybe they're genuinely enjoying what they're watching?

It seems this is an alien concept to a lot of people.

I thought last night's was okay, nothing special, but why should that stop others from enjoying it? If the OP enjoyed it then good for them, and if others didn't enjoy it then that's fine too. No need to start undermining the OP just because you disagree with their view.

What are you on about. It's no different to the people posting the same for ED things like ED the number one soap, ED is on fire at the moment and I could go on but you get the picture.

Anyway back to the OP question yes I agree it was good last night not great but enjoyable none the less. I have noticed that finally the qulity of the episodes have started improving a bit which is a good start lets hope they can keep it up with Peggy's one off episode, and David's return.

Disagreeing with someone on a discussion forum is "undermining" them now?

For me, Corrie and Emmerdale is like watching a series of talks where viewers are talked to. "Nick's waking up. I'm just so worried he's got brain damage now". Everything is just so staged to me and just said..
Eastenders does things in a way that feels like its driving force is emotions and the way characters feel..
To me the other soaps just feel 2D and you know exactly how each scene will play out”

Hugely disagree.Emmerdale is superior to Eastenders in every way at the moment thanks to great writing and characters and Corrie has also been excellent in recent years. Loved Eastenders a few years ago but it needs to improve its writing and storylines drastically and I am hoping that happens with the new producer at the helm.

I didn't think it was any better or worse than usual. A few different camera angle shots do not make much difference to the overall lack of quality writing.

No, but suggesting they're only posting it to "convince themselves and others" that the show is good does. There are ways of disagreeing with others without resorting to remarks like that.

I wouldn't say it was great. It was better than most of 2013 but for me this was more of a mid week episode. You need your better episodes to be on Monday and Friday to keep the viewers interested.

Yes, the writers and storyline team are completely to blame. They are the weak link and ultimately the major factor contributing to the show's ongoing free-fall. The thread was loosened following the botched up baby-swap and from that point onwards has continued to unravel at an alarming rate..

You certainly can't blame the actors, bar a few, EE has a very strong cast. The clueless scriptwriters just don't appear to know exactly who their characters are or what to do with them. Over a prolonged period of time, far too may have been ruined beyond repair, written out or killed off altogether, through sheer laziness and total lack of creativity. Even the actors who have departed the show of their own accord have all had extremely poorly-written exits.

It's a forum.. the point is to create points of discussion. It doesn't work if people don't do that

And you seem to have missed several recent threads about how "emmerdale is on fire" and the "hayley's stroyline is amazing"

It does happen for other soaps too... don't just single out EE.

And if the OP thought lasts nights episode was great and wanted to say so, why shouldn't they?

Makes a change from the endless ee is rubblish threads.

The past two weeks have been genuinely good. You only have to look at the episode threads to see much more praise (not just from apologists but from people who have been very critical of the show).

Why can't people accept they promised September would be a big month and show a turnaround in the show and for the most part they have delivered so far... There's still a way to go overall, but there's no talking down the show has felt much more like it's old self of late

I watched it last night. Didn't think it was 'great' but I felt it was more watchable than it has been in a while.

I'm sorry but this episode just dragged and was totally uninteresting.

Agreed. There is a hell of a long way to go but it's been acceptable for the last few weeks.

But I accept it's lagging behind.

I really enjoyed last nights episode , but I am a big Jean fan and am glad she's leaving on a happy note. I agree the quality seems to be on the up and much better than a couple of months ago .

As Ironic as it sounds, that's exactly what I was saying the other day.
However, the quality on Eastenders isn't perfect and it isn't back to the way it used to be simply because its only been a few episodes so far..
Hence the reason I'm praising it. Still walking on eggshells, hoping with fear that it'll remain at this point. I'm just not quite ready to relax knowin it's definitely back to the quality it used to be yet
