I think she definitely uses her transgender status to promote herself. Like in the interview that ended up with her being 'banned', she was obviously there to promote her new show and she was very rude to the doctor who was there to talk about transgender people and their treatment.
And now, she is claiming that she was desperate to get onto BB to change public opinion on Trans people. A show which has had two transgender winners already? Sure, there are still viewers with bigoted views, but I'd say BB viewers are more enlightened than most about these issues.
