If I was ITV and throwing the amout of money that they do at their Champions League rights, I'd want more than barely double what they get for the cheap filler they usually show on Tuesday nights for my investment. Quote:
But it will be only on against the football three times this season, and if ITV's next match involves Arsenal and is poor, then BBC One doesn't have that much to worry about.

I'm also curious as to why people think ITV are powerless in this relationship with SyCo, where are they going to take The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent if ITV decide not to renew them? Nowhere that's going to deliver the same kind of audience.

At that time of night there is a big difference between 10pm and 10.50pm.

Yet another show falls in the celebrity trap - did the celeb special actually rate any better than regular editions. I suspect the reason the revival worked is it's probably the only primetime game show (other than lottery shows) that actually features real people at the moment. Pretty sure too I read an interview with Stephen Mulhern saying they wouldn't do more than one celeb special a series - well they've truly broke that rule now.
And that celebrity special rated a little above 4m. Not the worst or best performance of the series. |

Do X Factor and Stricly share the same audience? Going back to 2009 and before when they clashed most weeks in the early evening slot both shows still did well.

Doc Martin has always timeshifted more than New Tricks though.

Hmm, it rates better in Germany even though the format originated here...

Well, for one of the live shows last year which was finishing at 22:35, the last five minutes were averaging ~3m!
Quote:
Likely because the last five minutes wasn't actually The X Factor.
22:25-22:30 - 6.8m 22:30-22:35 - 4.4m Figures from Colin Robertson via cylon6; not sure if he included +1. |

"That Dog Can Dance" would never have seen the light of day had it been created by another production company other than Syco. Absolute barrel scraping light entertainment and itv seem to be deluded by this company.

I'm so bored about reading about TXF in this thread. What else is left to even say that hasn't been said before? (and this is speaking as a fan).

I believe Simon Cowell has hypnotised the nation. Like 'The Master' on Doctor Who who used the sound of drums to get into everyones psyche, Cowell has put poison into the ITV airwaves. If you watch ITV, listen very very carefully. You can hear it. "You will follow me. You will love me. You can't throw in the towel, for I'm the mighty Simon Cowell". All ITV bosses have been turned into cybermen. They will obey the syco king. All those who fail to worship are deleted. After all you don't hear about Steve Brookstein anymore!

I can see the logic; it just didn't pay off. Considering the success of Ashleigh and Pudsey, I think ITV would have been tempted even if the idea had come from another production company or in house. |

That's very short term thinking though, isnt it. Just look at what's happened in the last 2 years, Itv weekly reach for the first week of September has plummetted from 76pct to 67pct.That is a pretty major drop in just 24months and we've seen the impact that's had on some of their ratings. New dramas are launching with just 3.5-4million instead of 5million+ that they used to. And returning shows like Doc Martin are down 15pct, in line with the weekly reach drop. It's not good having a shrinking weekly reach, at this rate in 2015, they might be down to about 58pct. XFactor might be getting 7-8million viewers in 2015 with its 2.5hour episodes hogging the schedules but how will those new shows launching then cope with such a diminsed section of the population to be promoted to. Being trailed to 58pct of the population is much worse than 75pct which used to be the case a couple years ago, and it will impact the ratings.

Doc Martin's opener had an official of 9.04m/9.51m (exc/inc +1), an increase of +1.44m/+1.55m from the overnight. This was more than New Tricks shown the previous day (+1.27m) but much of this difference (if not all) will be due to the adverts being stripped out of Doc Martin.
It helps to have a population 27% higher than the UK's. ![]() The last time was Wednesday 28 August. Tonight's was an hour, however, as will be the next two Wednesday editions at least. As noted, X Factor starts at 20:20, so just a five-minute clash. I still think Strictly will move to 18:30 the following week when it goes super-sized. It won't end until about 20:30 so X Factor will probably still be finishing later than ITV would like, if they don't dare clash. If Strictly keeps moving further into primetime, then i think ITV should push X Factor forward to 7.30 or even 7pm and have a full on clash.Dent Strictly's average as well. Or even better, finish TXF 20mins or so after Striclty to get the biggest peak of the night. This whole situation though is reminiscent of the situation with TVUK and BGT, only the BBC did the same with TVUK pushing it back so it started directly after BGT. Samuel hailed that as a good move for the TVUK, why not TXF i wonder .....mmmm. |

In defence of The One Show (that felt weird to type) tonight's show had the rather bizarre combination of Usain Bolt and Brian Cox as guests which seems worthy of an hour slot. Not sure who they have lined up for the next couple of weeks however. And frankly any show that can find a more oddly matched choice of guests than that for a single show deserves some kind of award.
Back to yesterday, an even stronger Tuesday overall than last week for BBC TV, with 24.0%, 7.2%, 1.4% and 0.9% for the four numbered BBC channels (3.0% in total for the others). ITV's football helped it to an all-day share of about 17.8% (inc +1), better than usual on a Tuesday. Its multichannels had 2.6%, 2.7% and 0.9% respectively (inc +1). Channel 5 was still below 4% (inc +1) thanks to its Super Spa stinker and Channel 4 had 6.0% (inc +1), give or take 0.1%. Some more ratings: - Pointless surged by 280k to 3.40m, tape-checked - The One Show grew to 4.18m (21%) tape-checked - Dave Gorman: Modern Life Is Goodish on Dave started with 474k (3.0%) (inc +1), above the slot average of 380k (2.2%) Sources: Channel 4 Sales, Screenwatch, ITV Media, Broadcast (respectively) |

You sound like Samuel. Keen to just dent SCD to make XF have a bigger peak! Samuel isn't allowed to "crush" ITV but you are allowed to "dent" BBC. I think everyone on here are all as bad as each other. All of us clearly have an agenda. Mine is to prove that ITV bosses are Cybermen.

This is something I dont get either. Why all these gameshows have to be about celebs and charity. Its not what gameshows are supposed to be about and not to me half as interesting. I quite like the Catchphrase revival but no way will I watch these.

It'll be interesting to see how that rates. I can see the logic of extending to an hour on a Wednesday, as otherwise it would require finding some half-hour show to fling up against Corrie, as they already have to do on Monday and Friday. And as you say, they can justify it if they have an interesting mix of guests and features.

Although I can understand why All Star Mr & Mrs use celebrities, the pretence it's for charity even for a run of the mill weekly game show is a bit insulting when some of the reported fees they've paid for contestants to appear on (a third of) a one hour non-spectacular TV show is excess of the prize they can win. There is no reason though for Family Fortunes to be celeb based - and considering how stable it's ratings are it's unbelieveable ITV haven't looked to at least have a regular series alongside it, whether that's a number of 30 minute episodes which can be dropped in the schedule as and when or more 45/60 minutes versions to air at the weekend. The celeb editions killed Millionaire - they forgot what the core concept of the show was and it went from giving the public the chance to become millionaires to giving millionaires the chance to win a few thousand quid for charity. |
