Do you know what The Chase got?
Couldn't find anything for The Chase; it definitely lost to Pointless including +1 but perhaps we wouldn't expect it to catch up so soon. Pointless seems to be flying into autumn. I wonder if the Saturday shows, far from producing overkill, are helping the weekday ones at this stage (overkill will come eventually though - Bothers Bar are complaining about the recycled categories - "countries whose first vowel is an E" ).

You sound like Samuel. Keen to just dent SCD to make XF have a bigger peak! Samuel isn't allowed to "crush" ITV but you are allowed to "dent" BBC. I think everyone on here are all as bad as each other. All of us clearly have an agenda. Mine is to prove that ITV bosses are Cybermen.
Your so right. I had not thought of it before but Cybermen is exactly what ITV bosses are. They want to steal your brains and make you think exactly like them - you know like watching someone eat insects and throw up is real entertainment or that Dermot Oleary actually has a personality. Its a good job that us BBC Daleks (who cant use the remote to turn over from BBC1) are here to oppose them.

From the few minutes I saw of Father Figure, I can see why it was dumped at 22:40 on a Wednesday.

I know people will shoot me down for this, but Pointless like the rest of BBC's daytime line-up in OAP friendly and that is why it always rates well. Bargain Hunt in particular always get a 28%+ share. Pointless leads in t the high rating news as wel giving it a boost as viewers tune in early.

Agree. What on earth is going on with sitcoms lately? Why can't there be just nice, real, warm comedies anymore? They all have to be idiotic and childish? Father Figure was Porn for CBeebies!

You deserve to get shot down! Most OAP's I know prefer The Chase. Infact in the Nursing Home I work in it's all The Chase. It's only you ITV loyalists who keep saying this.

Because Mrs Brown's Boys has been hugely successful.

And its only you BBCistas who keep denying it. If the rest of BBC line-up skews heavily OAP why woud Pointless not. My grandparents don't watch any ITV daytime but will always watch BBC, from Bargain Hunt to Pointless.

But Mrs. Browns Boys is old fashioned slapstick. With believable characters in situations you can relate to. It works because of that. I know Agnes is OTT but the character is one you can empathise with.

I'm not necessarily a BBC vista. I admit there is more content on the BBC that appeals to me more but I also appreciate the good stuff on ITV too.

Itv giving The Chase a 4 week break over the summer holidays was the best thing that could've possibly have happened to Pointless. BBC/Endemol/Pointless bosses must be loving it. In those four weeks, the Itv game show audience plummetted and viewers migrated over to BBC1. Now although some viewers have gone back to watching the Chase, some viewers have stayed on and stuck with Pointless. So nowadays Pointless is beating the Chase comfortably where as at the start of this year it was neck and neck between the two. It just proves that taking a break to 'prevent a show from going stale' is just words and not necessarily true, especially for a daytime programme when things are watched out of habit. Taking a break can do more damage than good, as the Chase is currently finding out. Richard Osman's probably smoking a fat cigar looking at the overnights every morning, he tweets nice things to Labbett [of the Chase] and acts all friendly but he's probably secretly absolutely loving the beating The Chase is getting at the moment and delighted at the increasing success and ratings domination of his own show.

Troll tactic posting Sam!

It's certainly working for The One Show!

Pointless will run out of steam sooner than The Chase, It will com back to bite them on the bum sooner or later.

The One Show is currently getting 20%+ shares on a consistent basis George. Its viewers are still enjoying it for what it is, even 7 years on from its launch. It is yet another example of having a show running day after day after day with barely any breaks but the ratings holding up due to viewers enjoying it and sticking with it out of habit. If they had loads of breaks, some viewers might've stopped watching. But by showing The One Show so often [with very few breaks just a while in the summer], theyve managed to get people into a routine of watching it every day.

Having a break every few months like what the Chase has is quite disruptive and quite annoying for viewers. Viewers like to watch something they are familiar with and are set in their ways. Having these breaks so often spoils the daily routine and naturally viewers end up migrating to other channels who offer more permanent solutions - such as Pointless which is on most weekdays of the year. It doesnt show any signs of running out of steam, certainly not in the ratings anways.

Sources inform me that Tipping Point will be going off air soon so that Itv can show some 20 part documentary hosted by Michael Buerk. Whats the point in taking off Tipping Point so often? It is easily their best rating 4pm show by a mile but all these little breaks it's having is going to do more harm to it than good. This Michael Buerk series is going to only get around 1million viewers, about 50% less than Tipping Point and that smaller lead-in will have a negative impact on the Chase. All the chopping and changing doesnt do the ratings any good. Look at the damage C4 did to Countdown's ratings by changing its timeslot so often, if theyd stuck with the same timeslot, its ratings wouldve held up better than it has done.

I'm sure Casualty can have a week off, if need be, if Strictly and Lotto leave no room for it.

Wow.
Ade In Adland is the second part of the two parter that died a death a few Tuesdays back so that'll be a disaster.

No idea what to make of the Paul Gascoigne documentary though. It'll probably bomb but part of me thinks it'll do a bit better than the usual Tuesday stuff and it ought to bring in a demographic more akin to the football. I'm sure it was all done with consent and everything but it does seem a bit exploitative I have to say.

The Gascoigne doc will get about a 7 per cent inheritance, and is then up against New Tricks, Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, CSI:NY and the new James Corden comedy drama. This could be a ratings car crash, even by ITV Tuesday standards.

You should be locked in a room with wall to wall One Show's sreened until you break down and admit itv is wonderful

I think its interesting that they've opted to put the Gascoigne doc on a Tuesday night. That sounds like the kind of thing that could have done depressingly well elsewhere. Although reading the synopsis for it kind of makes it sound like a failed reality pilot rather than a documentary which might explain that...
