woomph!! - that's massive for scd, miles more than expected and streets ahead of txf.

going to be a long autumn for mr Cowell!

very respectable for Atlantis, clearly took viewers off txf, but also proving it has not got Merlin's potential - it will be downhill from here

Who'd have thought Atlantis would have actually taken viewers off X Factor?

You did say XF had everything in it's favour though, when you said that Strictly had finished early and there was just filler for the last few minutes.

Only 600k?

Note that the ratings are from Richard Osman, therefore X Factor is unlikely to include +1.

Why let a small fact like that get in the way of a total u-turn when the ratings come in?

Which makes these figures even more astonishing!

It had about 8.4m excluding +1 last week.

I'm thinking Stepping Out did pretty badly.

Scd is completely going to beat XF on Saturday nights this autumn. Normally the first Saturday ep of strictly is one of its lowest rated of the series. It will probably going up soon. XF on the other hand is showing no signs of going up but just flatlining around 8m, which would actually be lower than its ratings from last year. So even after all the format changes, publicity, New judge, viewers just don't want to return to the X. It's all about SCD. Delighted in these ratings, it has restored by faith in the viewing public.

Yet another XF is dying post...

I fail to see why you call 7.8m for SCD respectable, but really poor for X Factor.

Jenny Cummins reports 7.8m and an 8.8m peak (40% share). Maybe those include +1?

I think a reprise is in order - anyone got a Strictly share?

Strictly preview shows and launches proper:

2010

Fri 01/10, 21:00-22:00 - Launch proper 1: 9.10m (38.2%)
Sat 02/10, 18:00-19:05 - Launch proper 2: 8.72m (41.6%)

2011
Sat 10/09, 18:10-18:15 - Preview: 7.62m (37.3%)
Fri 30/09, 21:00-22:00 - Launch proper 1: 7.98m (33.1%)
Sat 01/10, 18:00-19:05 - Launch proper 2: 7.50m (41.0%)

2012
Sat 15/09, 18:30-19:35 - Preview: 8.00m (40.2%)
Fri 05/10, 21:00-22:00 - Launch proper 1: 8.00m (34.0%)
Sat 06/10, 18:30-19:50 - Launch proper 2: 8.72m (40.7%)

2013
Sat 07/09, 18:50-20:10 - Preview: 8.43m (41.3%)
Fri 27/09, 21:00-22:00 - Launch proper 1: 7.81m (35.2%)
Sat 28/09, 19:00-20:30 - Launch proper 2: 9.11m

Strictly finished slightly later than I thought, at 20:28, and so was tape-checked to 20:30; Atlantis started at 20:29.

7.8m includes +1. XFactor did even worse without the repeat! A shocker of a rating that its already in the low 7s by clashing with SCD for just 5mins. I'm looking forward to next Saturdays 25min clash ratings.

it's Cowell who is deep underwater and gasping for air this morning George!!

wonder if there's time to move the ailing txf away from its self inflicted clashes with strictly next weekend?!

They will indeed include +1 from her. She reports full-slot ratings but X Factor doesn't need tape-checking (ran to time), so the tape-checked exc +1 figure will be LESS than 7.8m. Yikes!

SCD got 7.8m on Friday night, no?

Funny how 7m for a show like BGT isn't as much of a 'shocker', eh? Or even The Voice.

You seriously think five minutes damaged the whole 90 minutes of X Factor? How fickle are you, it faced Atlantis which must have hurt it more.

Very poor. It is well down from last years bootcamp ratings. I kept warning the XF fans on their forum that a lot of the rise in the average for this years auditions v 2012s was due to circumstances and technicality. Last years auditions were right after Olympics and some up against Paralympics, and obviously having more Sunday episodes this year would help increase the average. But now the stakes and situation are comparable now in a fair way, XF is seriously struggling. Already down to 7.4million, I expect itv and Cowell will be very disappointed this morning that their musical chairs format got such a bad reception overall

per Richard Osman on Twitter (we think exc +1):

"And the rest:
YB Framed: 2.3m
Stepping Out: 2.29m
Pointless (Yay!): 4.02m
Casualty: 4m
TT Keyhole: 3.39m
MOTDay: 3.77m"

So virtually everything on ITV hit last night?

Keyhole below 4m for the first time, obviously down to the late slot.

Stepping Out, pretty poor too. Only slightly higher than the 2.15m that it got the last time it faced Strictly. I blame that for X Factor's under-par rating.

It looks like today is Samuels day.
He probably deserves it after all the stick he takes on here.

Dear oh dear, Stepping out well and truly got battered. And starting keyhole almost an hour later has caused serious damage to its rating. All in all, a bad evening for ITV.
