Some figures from Broadcast

"Bake Off rises to record high"

6.25 watched the show (25.9%)

Beats the final of 2012 6.1(23.6%)

Last night overnight peaked in the five minutes from 8.50pm to 6.8 million that's a whopping 27.2% share.

Charlotte Moore will have her eye on that one!

Interesting to see Kojak was on BBC1 prime time 9.30pm. Great show - currently being repeated daily on ITV4.

BBC1's lineup was the perfect family fare for a Saturday night.

Some of the BBC programming for gaps left by "The One Show" did attract a slightly larger audience than the daily magazine show. The baliff documentary seemed popular.

New Tricks falling way behind Doc Martin now. Dour Scottish footballing club that thinks its Irish failed to set the tv ratings alight; not exactly a shock.

Wrong Man looking like another one week wonder. Millican rating proves there are 1.6m masochists in the UK.

There isn't a series of "Doctor Who" until the autumn of 2014. This time its delayed until the end of year not its usual spring launch.

Meaning Atlantis 2 - if it happens - will be bumped into January 2014 ... to play alongside The Voice? And DW will be scheduled against TXF?

Presuming there is a second series then both will probably play in the autumn with "Doctor Who" likely to begin in September with "Strictly Come Dancing" launch show.

I read an interview with Moffat saying he wanted some time to work on Capaldi first series and gather the best writers apparently hence wanting a later launch.

Many thanks for this - very interesting, and can remember most shows as a student.

New Tricks does get dented by the handful of viewers watching itv's football. It returns to 7m+ when there is no football.

It's in the same ballpark as Doc Martin. As DM was a 10m banker, I think you need to navel gaze a bit closer to home...

That article should have been amended now as they didn't include the BBC HD simulcast in 2012's figures.

I don't know why, but I'm not as shocked as others. Maybe because of how impressive the officials are?

It beat last year's final too, didn't it? It's got to be nailed on for 7-8m for this year's final.

So 7.29m (38.2%) for Emmerdale including +1. Great share as always.

Maybe the football dented it?

New Tricks was down but will timeshift well.

Not great for the football. It peaked with a rather dismal 3.8m (16%) at 20:05.

It was promoted as a sitcom when in reality it's a very entertaining comedy drama.

Says a lot when The One Show is missed. Emmerdale has good storylines from what I gather. The One Show is dull factual with dull presenters. BBC1 should reduce the number of shows and put something else there.

Are you referring to the overnights or officials?

I had a look on the BARB website and could find no concrete evidence in either direction as to how it is recorded, though there was a very interesting presentation on the concept (and future) of on demand ratings being incorporated. I have emailed them directly to ask for any clarity and will pass on any response. It's an interesting one!

Thanks. Look forward to that. We do know that viewing of 'pushed' content on Sky gets added to the most recent showing and Sky confirmed to me recently that viewing of advance showings of episodes from On Demand before their linear broadcast, don't get counted at all.

Sky are doing this all the time now with first episodes of new series.

Big Ballpark.

How can you be dented by a "handful" of viewers.

I thought the GBBO final was over 7m last year?

Well technically there were 3m+ handful of viewers this week while ITV only had about 1.5m at the same time last week so presumably they came from the Wrong Mans and NT, hmm am I right.

Being on Tuesday against football doesn't help New Tricks. Doc Martin has much easier competition and yet hasn't hit the highs of the last series so far. That's a headscratcher.

Thanks for the info. That would suggest that it works that way for all channels. So anything with a quick to air linear repeat is at a disadvantage in the first showing official ratings. Whilst that's probably a very minor issue now, it will become more and more obvious as on demand takes off (and non-TV set viewing gets incorporated).

I've also asked them about whether it includes +1s as a linear repeat, if they are using audio as the method of apportioning viewing then it may well be that it attaches to the +1 channel.
