Yes this will be the competition that could derail "The Voice" if itv tried to battle it out but would end in "The Voice" rescheduling around it again. It doesn't have "Britians Got Talent" to constantly overshadow it all the time so maybe it will do much better at a fixed time.

Wonder if they might have guests now on Saturday night to pad out the voting period, or more specifically the ridiculously long time they now seem to have to take to count the votes. The voting will probably be open for the recap and ads, which is near enough 10 minutes.

Not sure about this twist myself - think it might work better the other way and rather than putting one straight in the bottom two they save the top one (or top three even) on the Saturday and leave everyone else to the vote on the Sunday. It could also damage the Sunday ratings is an obviously poor singer who is on borrowed time is revealed to be bottom of the pack on the Saturday - pretty much makes the outcome on Sunday pointless.

That'll be in place of a back order since The Following will take its place on the schedule midseason. Shows a huge amount of faith in Almost Human.


Given that its moving to Q1, has new coaches, new presenters and will presumably get a promotional push over Christmas and the New Year you'd certainly expect the show to start up on where it was last year at the very least.


That pretty much sums the situation up.

Revolution is in a very similar situation to Smash although Revolution's second season implosion hasn't been quite as dramatic as Smash's last year. Its worth remembering that it fell down to a 1.8 by the end of season one so when they renewed it NBC knew what they were getting themselves into with season two (particularly when paired with the awful word of mouth it was getting by that point). The problem was that they'd invested so heavily in the show and the rest of their line-up was such a mess they really had no choice but to renew it.


Its a very good buy for them.

When it comes to the US imports Five's strategy seems to be to take a step back and see how the new shows pan out. That's not a bad strategy given how some of their more recent buys have panned out. That the networks aren't diving quite so heavily into the procedural waters this year is hurting them a little as well. I think there's a couple of good prospects for them though. Depending on how it debuts next month they might want to take another look at Almost Human. Its a nice mixture of on brand and expansion for them. Rake, Mind Games and Killer Women look relatively good for Five as well. I'd take a punt on Crisis if I were them as well. Its pretty good.

No idea if this is a good buy or not, but in principle I'm in favour. Yet more new drama for Five.

As you say, some more will be needed though.

Presumably they'll have to add some kind of additional performance into the mix of the Saturday shows. I wonder if they might shift the awkward group number that used to open the Sunday show to the end of Saturday nights. Give everyone another chance to see the acts in action so to speak...

I don't quite understand this 'flash vote' thing as a format point. I mean what does it actually add to the show? It just seems to be an attempt to keep people from switching off before the end now that they're being pushed later into the night by Strictly. I suppose that's not a bad thing but its hard to see what it actually adds to the show.

I'm not sure about Rake, seems to be a bit House as a lawyer even though I know its a remake. Mind Games looks okay although Christian Slater is a bit of a kiss of death on regular series and I'm not seen anything on Killer Women.

Intelligence would be compatible with their other shows and I think with their new homegrown drama Evidence coming next year, it would be great for them to have the US drama at 10pm with Evidence at 9pm.

I wonder if they'll take a risk and pitch a couple of 'favourites' against Strictly in the hope they'll lose out in the flash vote, therefore potentially increasing debate about the show, people tuning in to the Sunday results and possibly switching over to The X Factor on a Saturday when it starts for the second week instead of half an hour in.

I'm hoping that as Rake develops it'll more closely mirror the original Australian version of the show which wasn't really House as a lawyer. I probably won't be holding my breath on that. House as a lawyer seems to be what Fox was buying. Its got a star name though and I suspect it'll do relatively well. It seems like the kind of thing that would go down fairly well on Five though as does Killer Women although I think that's a bit rubbish. Mind Games (they should have stuck with Influence) is good and I want it to be a success if only because I really want a Kyle Killen show to last. Its very on brand for Five though.

My God that Revolution rating is a shocker. Can nothing stand up on NBC without The Voice? ABC could have real problems this season.

I wonder where Rake will go as there's not really a slot for it unless Glee takes a hiatus until March to let Rake air and they also have sitcoms that I imagine will replace one or two of the struggling sitcoms on Tuesdays.

Remaking foreign shows like Rake isn't new but the success of Homeland has prompted studios and networks to look at dramas beyond the UK. Israel seems to be a new destination for adaptations as is Denmark. I wouldn't be surprised if Spiral and Borgen are remade. I'm curious to see how The Tunnel does for Sky Atlantic.

i think the Australian drama series Packed to the Rafters would be ripe for a remake either in America or the UK.

In fairness Revolution wasn't really holding up with The Voice.


Fox's current plan is for Rake to take over the Thursday 9PM slot from January although they may push this later and make use of Super Bowl promotion. Either way they're planning to push part of Glee's back order into the summer along with the new series of 24 (which'll shoot in London making Sky happy I'm sure) and new drama Gang Related.

I'm suprised no one has commented on bbc1s diabolical 2nd week into October schedule next week...

Has summer written all over it, now we know why there was so much cheap filler on the channel over the summer:- so the not so cheap filler can be placed in the autumn!

BBC1 are saving their best stuff for Christmas and January when they will have an awesome schedule for two months. Most people focus on Christmas time and January in terms of ratings and the BBC are having a quiet period now in ordeer to save up for an exception period later this year and the start of next year. BBC1 will open 2014 with a bang.

They should have prized "The Great British Bake Off" from BBC Two and claimed it as their autumn hit. Instead BBC Two has gone into first place as a diverse and interesting channel way above BBC One at the moment in terms of how to please the viewer. BBC One looks uninspired.

That's not a very convincing argument ... BBC One had cards in its hand which it could have played in a much more strategic way, e.g. starting By Any Means and Truckers in less hotly contested slots (and I can't see Truckers beating the now heavily publicised Breathless).

ITV may have a few slots sewn up, but it's far from invincible - and BBC One's schedulers appear quite happy to give up new series (especially new dramas) at the drop of a hat.

Hardly "diabolical", really....

There's a lot of dull factual filler in primetime. Is this the future with DQF? Autumn and Winter are the big TV seasons but BBC1 have hardly anything that appeals.
