However, with Pullman leaving UCOS, I reckon this will still have the edge and get 7 million.

ITV had a decent night overall; I expected Doc Martin to increase more due to a lack of opposition, though. Celebrity Super Spa is a write off and I wouldn't be surprised if Channel 5 is now doing some emergency surgery on the schedule. The Fried Chicken Shop has seemingly been plucked and stuff already. I'm surprised EastEnders only just scraped 7m and the BBC Three repeat did little to help. Quote:
This acronym always makes me smile because it's supposed to stand for Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad, but for some reason they forgot one of the Cs.

Then it went back in primetime but some years it would only be a short series of three programmes and sometimes it would be a proper six-part series, sometimes it would be a half hour show and sometimes an hour-long show, sometimes at 7pm, sometimes at 8pm. It was as if they were either continually trying it out in any slot to see which it would work in, or they were just recommissioning it to shut Esther up and dumping it wherever they were short.

Doc Martin was down again and while its still fine after timeshifts could have been vunerable to some decent opposition - BBC need to get back to some Monday 9pm dramas.
This week: 7.18m (31.7%) / 225k (1.4%) It was up excluding +1; around level including +1. |

It looks like Sky Atlantic are going to get another year out of Mad Men. AMC have just announced that they're going to split the final season into two blocks of 7 episodes one airing in 2014 and the other in 2015. That also means another year of 'why did Sky pay so much for a show nobody watches'

AMC I imagine hopes that by splitting the final season, they'll be able to build momentum like they did with Breaking Bad, but only 14 episodes though even Breaking Bad got 16 episodes and some like the Closer got 21 episodes split into two half seasons.

If that's their plan (and I'm actually not convinced it is) then I don't think its going to work. Breaking Bad, unlike Mad Men, is propelled by plot and that builds a huge investment in how it'll all end and who, if anyone, survives. Plus given the difference in how Netflix talks about the two shows it seems fair to say that Mad Men won't get a 'Netflix bump' either. If that's even a real thing. In truth though I think the real reason AMC are splitting the final season of Mad Men is because they desperately need established shows. As underwhelming as Mad Men's numbers can be AMC need more than one reliable series in the bank even if that series is The Walking Dead.

I'd be amazed if Wonder Woman happens on television again any time soon not now Warner Bros. have gotten serious about the DC film franchises again. She's one of the 'big three' for them and is obviously going to be part of their Justice League plans. They can afford to give Green Arrow and maybe The Flash to television but not Wonder Woman. Of course if this Batman vs. Superman film is terrible then Justice League will be back on hold and they'll probably consider migrating everything to television where they've had sustained success with the DC properties. Although having said that they did try Wonder Woman on television again last year with Amazon but it died when they couldn't cast the thing. That's always going to be the problem going forward with Wonder Woman – who the hell do you cast. Its a tricky role that's proven hard to get right and that problem is magnified by putting it on television.

It'll be interesting to see if Netflix or Amazon Instant Video/Lovefilm played a significant part of other shows getting a boost, we've seen in the past that repeats have benefited shows like The Big Bang Theory and NCIS when they started airing repeats on cable. People moan about repeats but they do have benefits of improving audience figures.

I think the Superman/Batman will make a lot of money especially since they've got Ben Affleck as Batman, I still think we'll get a Wonder Woman movie as it's the ace WB/DC has over Marvel in that they've yet to launch a successful female superhero film, I wouldn't be surprised if it is released in 2016, the 75th anniversary of the character. I am of the opinion that if they get it right, it'll be a huge hit probably bigger than Man of Steel or the first Spider-Man film.
I'd agree that Batman/Superman should make a lot of money although I think the casting of Affleck has neither a positive or negative effect on that. The bigger concern for Warner Bros. will be whether the film is any good since its basically setting the stage for the Justice League and a new Batman franchise. If they can't get these two characters on screen together right then its hard to know how you sell the Justice League going forward - “We screwed up Batman vs. Superman but we promise we're going to get this right!”. I wholeheartedly agree on Wonder Woman though. That to me has always been the franchise of any comic book that has the most potential upside to it but getting it right is a mighty big task. Warner Bros. is understandably a little gun shy on that but they absolutely should announce it sooner rather than later and beat Marvel to the female superhero punch. Of course I'd also advise them to announce that they're going to reboot Green Lantern with the John Stewart version instead of Hal Jordan to beat Marvel to a standalone black hero. That it helps but clear water between a new Green Lantern franchise and that awful mess that Ryan Reynolds was in helps as well. But this is increasingly off topic so I'll stop there.

Ronnie Corbett tells The Sun his friend Sir Bruce Forsyth will quit SCD after this year's show and probably spend most of his time in Puerto Rico, his wife's home country.

It was on form, those old dogs still have new tricks to learn, I hope for at least 8 million.
Due to this abnormally tough Tuesday night competition from Itv, expect New tricks to have been about 6.5-7.3million in the averages. |

If it had followed Strictly then maybe 5 million, but I think that it will probably just nudge 3.7 million.

If I Love My Country can get over three million, this can easily do way more than that, it's an entertainment special with two highly popular personalities. It's exactly what people say they want to see on a Saturday night, Even if it collapses against The X Factor, which it won't, the first half is only facing Stepping Out. It'll be a hit.
Except of course that match was on a Wednesday where BBC1 was substantially weaker. The fact it's Manchester United is the draw, not their opposition unless they're playing Barcelona or someone, this is a routine group stage game. It'll have as much appeal as the England match did last week in the same slot. Im not so sure about a hit for "When Miranda Met Bruce" its very marmite television and I dont think Bruce Forsyth is popular enough now for a big audience. This programme would have been higher rated on a Sunday at 7 up against "Surprise Surprise" but it will be stamped on by " The X Factor" |
