The Times and Variety however note Danger Mouse got 19 million at its peak.”
Well, that would still be too many as well, given the highest rated programme of 1983 only got eighteen million viewers. To get that figure they must have either combined the ratings for an entire week of daily episodes, which would be a stupid way to do it (and even four million a day would have been very high for 4pm) or they've counted its entire worldwide audience because it was sold to America. Or someone made it up on Wikipedia a few years back, natch.

It's doing that now! It's been shown before Strictly since the results moved back to Sundays in 2010, Countryfile is always at its earliest in the autumn. Can I also remind everyone that the next time there are complaints about BBC1's "samey" schedule, Antiques Roadshow now won't be back until around Christmas.

There will be no MOTD on that day either.”
There will actually, there's a full Premier League fixture list on 28th December. There isn't a Football League programme though. But indeed there's no problem with Atlantis finishing on that day. I remember Robin Hood finishing on that weekend in 2007 with a double bill. Or even in January, viewers can cope with programmes spanning Christmas.

He's billed in the Radio Times! He was always planned to be on it. Really looking forward to Norton being back, by the way, it's a great show. I really hope this is the series Brucie goes on it, I really want to see him there, he'll have a great time. Especially if he's on with some bemused Hollywood star. He's been on Carr and Ross a couple of times, I don't know why he's never been on Norton, which is a better show.

No, because it was an LWT production so in the late eighties and early nineties would of course always have been on a Sunday. It wasn't until the launch of the ITV Network Centre that you'd get LWT productions on a weekday and Carlton productions on a weekend.* But Wednesdays were always a big drama slot as well and things like Morse would always be shown there, and I've said this before but half of the first series of Midsomer Murders in 1998 was on Sundays and half on Wednesdays because the pilot had been such a huge hit that Carlton asked if they could show some as well to get the revenue.
* You would occasionally, in the seventies and eighties, get LWT and Thames programmes on the "wrong" days, I've got a HTV TV Times from 1981 where they're showing repeats of Thames' Jim Davidson Show on Sundays and I know Granada showed a series of LWT's Child's Play on weeknights because they wanted to show something else in its weekend slot. But that was only the individual regons being autonomous, it would never be networked.

Yes, they're not exhibiting any of the skills that made them famous on it, are they? Half the time the only criteria is that they're big and fat or look silly when they're diving. Bella Emberg would be a better booking on this show than Britney Spears. Splash is just messing around. The second you try and make it something other than relentless frivolity you're taking it too seriously. The whole fun is watching Z listers looking stupid.

No it doesn't, it's Panorama. Of course there was supposed to be a new episode of A Question of Sport at 8.30 the other Monday when Panorama was on at 10.35, but they did another last minute Panorama at 8.30 as well. Panorama does occasionally take weeks off because they don't commission it for 52 weeks a year and sometimes it has to go post-watershed to be more graphic or to be extended, but 8.30 remains its regular slot. A Question of Sport is the most shunted show in the schedule, it goes wherever there's a gap.

Presumably this is based on the dicussion during the Euros about how there's a gentleman's agreement that ITV get first pick in 2014. But as mentioned then, that is not a legally binding document, you even say yourself "potentially", and even if it were, there's no guarantee ITV would pick a knockout game over a group game. In 2006 ITV got the biggest audience of the entire tournament for one of England's group games because that was in primetime and the knockout games were in daytime. Same as in 2010, the match against Algeria in primetime got higher ratings than the Germany game in daytime, regardless of the importance of the fixture.
So there's no guarantee this'll happen at all. This time round England's group games could be 8pm kick-offs but their knockout games 5pm kick-offs. A no brainer which ITV would pick.
Yes, ITV want England to qualify for the World Cup, they always do. They'll get high ratings even if they only show England in the group. And if they don't qualify automatically this week, they get two high-rating play-off matches anyway, instead of two dull friendlies.
