I think ITV would only be guaranteed the home leg (this time) - the away leg would be put out to tender, so there is the possibility that having shown the whole qualification process the crucial last game could be on another channel - wouldn't be surprised to see BT bid hard for it.

XF on Sunday - we'd be looking at 18:00-19:15 and 20:00-21:00 with probably ASFF sandwiched in the middle.
A rerun of a rugby final won't do anywhere near as good as XF - though the latter could be down to sub-8m by then. Maybe they could air a documentary on it instead which could be good for like 6m?
If this was to ever happen, they'd have to be extensively trailed though.

Not sure why anybody is so interested in England qualifying or not. At international level we are 2nd rate and will probably be humiliated if we do qualify. Can only see a long term decrease in international football ratings and this upcoming World Cup could be the start of the slippery slope.

Just imagine - ITV go to all the effort for eleven thoroughly tedious England games over 18 months and then the BBC go and steal the one game which gets the public's attention good and proper.

I wasn't suggesting a rerun of the Rugby Final would get 8m. It'd get 4m tops. But X Factor would be lucky to get above 6m if it ran against Doctor Who that Saturday, which would potentially damage the whole of the rest of the series. ITV could air the Rugby final as relatively cheap filler, but relatively cheap filler with good demographics and as a great alternative to what the BBC are offering, and save The X Factor's skin in the process.
It wouldn't do the business - might get an outing on ITV4 at best, but peak time Saturday night 4 weeks from Christmas is a no no.

Tomorrow's show is huge for The X Factor. The first live show in 2012 was dire and 2011 wasn't much better (talent was fine but production and panel were poor). They have to hit the ground running this time round. They're having a 1980s theme so I wonder if they're trying to lure in the 'older' audience by having songs they like rather than modern songs?
The football is beautifully poised for Tuesday; ITV couldn't have had it much better. The lack of promotion when compared to the BBC has hurt it and I think has had an impact on the declines we've seen but the demographics are good and the figures themselves are still decent.

how the mighty TXF has fallen - we now have itvistas coming on here and suggesting it be taken off air one week in favour of a 10 year old rugby match repeat so a children's sci fi drama doesn't trounce it in the ratings!

And the matches will probably kick off at 8pm so EastEnders wouldn't be affected too much, if at all.

Disagree about DW not being a big deal though. In my book it's one of the TV events of the year. Especially with Tennant, under 8m would be a surprise to me.

It will be one of the more interesting ratings this year. Personally I will be surprised if there is any ratings surge on Saturday. There is little to suggest anything different to the past two seasons imo.

One thing though - isn't 23rd/24th November around the time that I'm A Celebrity... has it's launch show? I wonder if they could commission a preview show on the Saturday night or a 'Bushtuckers Revenge' style show to hold an end up? It could air before or after The X Factor, really.
Now that The Escape Artist (it's 3 episodes not 6) has been confirmed for the w/c 26th Oct, so either the Monday or the Tuesday, I'm worried they'll put that on the Monday and put Ripper Street on Sundays after By Any Means ends. Not sure how they'd work it around SPOTY but putting it against Downton sounds idiotic enough to come from the BBC.
I'm hoping this will be the week they finally realise it's Autumn, with drama on both Monday (Ripper Street) and Tuesday (Escape Artist), with maybe Hidden Kingdoms on Wednesday which should do better than The Great British Year. I agree; what's important about this weekend is not the overnights but to try and find some hype to drive the show forward in future weeks - and it's got to be 'clean' hype rather than another case of a controversial decision etc.

I'm A Celeb started on the 11th last year, the Sunday after Downton finished, so should start on the 17th this year, the week before Doctor Who.

The live bushtucker trial before the watershed?! I hope you're joking, that'd ruin one of the highlights of the entire I'm A Celeb run
Plus the live trial is usually midweek anyway, in one of the marathon shows they do to catch up after missing a day due to football. And I think I'm A Celeb will be the one ITV prioritise in terms of keeping shows away from Doctor Who as well. As things currently stand, X Factor is the more sacrificable(?) of the two.
