I thought X Factor looked very, very dated last night. Like a very bad impressions show.

I think the show has honestly died a death. Its taking itself too seriously. There isn't one star in this line up. Not one.

At least with Strictly its all rather care free and fun.

At the end of the day no matter what the positive and negative comments about both SCD/XF are - the ratings for both mean they are going to be on for many years yet. Neither side have anything to worry about.

X-Factor has reached a point where the general audience will slowly drift away.

It isn't going to suddenly collapse, long-running shows just don't do that.

But SCD does have an older vibe to it, and that audience just keep watching 'til they drop.

No doubt there'll be a lot of point scoring going on this morning...

There was no SCD overlap last year, and it managed 9.1m but as I mentioned, it was a stronger show last night.

I think post-22:00 is a natural home for him.

I thought Strictly was really good right from the off: Bruce seemed on better form than before he was ill: his jokes were funnier and he delivered them more assuredly. Tess was just Tess and the show fizzed along nicely, most of the dancers showing marked improvements.

I would imagine a good result for xfactor today but it will be interesting to see how it holds up over coming weeks. I watched the first live show not having watched any if the previous audition shows and there is no contestant that makes me want to watch again next week (good or bad, they were all decent but nothing standing out on either side, it needs two or three potential stars and at least one car crash....)

Fingers crossed we get the deserved ratings today and that there are no shock surprises.

I don't see why people thought XF looked dated last night, i thought it was the best first LIVE show in two years. I also thought the talent was very good, no joke acts. You can guarantee viewers will complain that there are no joke acts to enjoy to make it fun, when last year they complained because there was a joke act

It was an 80s night, of course.

It deserves to get 9m at least, but 8m would be fine. XF 2008 managed fine without a joke act.

#strictly2013 is most watched show last night, peaking at 10.9 million - biggest audience of series so far #bbc1

Get in there!

Ratings are out according to Overnights.tv. Now we wait...

EDIT: Good peak for Strictly, but the 15-minute peak for the equivalent show last year was 11.3m. (But that was with only a 5-minute clash).

Strictly averaged 9.8m and peaked at 10.9m. No surprise there.

I hope XF wasn't too far behind.

The BBC PR team out in full force early this morning. Another one:

Catherine Moor ‏@caterinos2000 21s
Viewing figures for @bbcstrictly continue to rise with a peak of 10.9 million and average 9.8 mill for last night's live show! #SCD

SCD UP 0.6million from last week!

That was the 5-minute peak, wasn't it?

No more ratings battle then I suppose. It's just about XF holding up well now.

But, SCD is not 3m ahead of XF yet which the latter once was.

XF and SCD are both dated crap, why 9million+ watch either, and why we have inane chat about it EVERY week is beyond me. People need to realise there is some quality programming on if they can just be bothered to go past channel 5...

Itv Prs are being very quiet so far, not a word.

Is that how bad the situation has got, that you think SCD could've potentially been 3million ahead of XF in the averages?!

I thought DS never had 5-minute peaks? It was at 20:00.

I agree. It would be nice for other programmes to get a look in.
