Oh dear, XFactor rated below 8million yesterday (excluding +1). Its averaged audience was down 1million and peak audience was down 0.8million from last year!

Strictly thrashed XFactor by 2million viewers in the averages!

Well done Strictly another great figure for another great show.

XF averaged 8.1m (35%) and peaked with 9.5m (40%) - inc +1.

Disappointing. Down on last week, and the equivalent show last year. It's still confusing - looks like the live shows are going to be down year-on-year and yet the auditions were up.

They do; it's just that the two biggest entertainment shows currently airing are on a Saturday night, and this is Sunday morning, so...

That's really not good for the Xfactor. It should have been a lot higher then that for the first live show. Interesting to see how it holds up now as it hasn't had a great start.

XFactor in big trouble now. That's the 5th episode in a row, since the auditions ended, that the ratings have been down year on year. And what a massive drop that was, 1million down from last year's pretty poor first live show rating. It's heading down hill, just as I predicted before the series. NO matter how many format changes the show makes, how many new judges they bring in, how many twists and turns they introduce, former viewers are just not interested in coming back to the show. It's over, the downward slope will continue and continue, whilst other strong shows like Strictly will maintain their audiences.

The Melanie effect? A number of viewers disappointed with the acts put through to the lives so switched off?

I hope Atlantis held up well.

Shame was hoping it would be at least over 8.5million, but i guess the singing show fatigue has set in fully. Next year will be interesting with The Voice, we should be prepared from an awful lot of spinning from Samuel.

XF is "down" on it's social buzz, it's just not the show it was.

SCD might actually benefit from this as some people quit watching XF in the bedroom and watch SCD with mum and dad.

We'll have to see a breakdown to see what actually put viewers off. It's a mediocre rating though.

It's not much larger than 'Gamu-gate' which didn't seem to put viewers off.

Last year X Factor had no clash with SCD, this year they clashed for 30mins, there's the difference. The peak is slightly disappointing, but I am convinced that tonight's show will bring in a huge audience.

It's only week 1 so I'm not yet convinced it's over.

Worth pointing out that it hasn't lost half of it's audience across the series yet. The Voice has pulled off that feat two years in a row.

It'll be interesting to see how ITV & BBC's other primetime offerings did.

The peak is down almost a million from last year too. The peak happened when XF wasnt clashing against SCD. It's no excuse. XFactors drop is a big one.

Samuel, can i ask why are you so anti-ITV?

I think this rating is ok considering SCD had a head start and a 30 minute overlap.also the x factor did not finish until 10:15 which is a much more difficult slot.

SCD had a peak of 11 million which is great but it is not completly street ahead yet as x factor has managed an 11.5 million peak on the sunday two weeks ago.

i think if SCD manages to get 11-12 million average not peak ratings then it will be truly dominating on saturday nights.

however I don't think the line-up is a strong this and theyn will struggle to go past 10.5 million for average rating.

it is also worth nothing the competiton is dire against SCD last night ITv would be better putting stronger competiton on than that fool britania

X Factor's first live show last year, airing from 20:00 to 22:25, attracted 8.68m (33.9%), with a peak (15-minute?) of "less than 10m" at 21:00 (DS). The +1 was 380k, so total was 9.06m (35.4%) That was with no clash though.

* EDIT: Doh, used the shares from DS which were wrong. Shares were roughly 38%/40% (exc/inc +1) last year.


That was week 2 of Strictly last year, the peak reported by DS for week 3 (the equivalent week) was also 11.3m, but at 20:00. I know DS use 15-minute peaks now, not certain that was always the case.

I cant stand XFactor, Cowell or the people running the channel due to their smugness. They think they are God's gift.

5-minute peak of 9.9m / 10.3m.

I suppose the clash must have had an effect.

XF only runs from 8-10:05pm next weekend so that'll probably be better.

I don't think this is a crisis. If it is, it's a crisis BBC2, Channel 4 & 5 would love to have.

XFactor clashed against SCD last week too. So how do you explain that for the first time in XF's history since 2007, the ratings went down between judges houses and the first live show? That doesnt normally happen.

ITV Ratings: The Jonathan Ross Show returns with an audience peak of 4.4m, averaging 3.9m/24% share

Good start for it there in the late slot. the share is very good. Good as ever for Strictly. Poor start for The X Factor live shows. They'll be a bit concerned at that result I suspect. I thought the show was good last night though so I guess we'll have to see where it goes from here.

My goodness, you're becoming as protective of ITV as Samuel is to the BBC. When you slag Samuel off, stop and read your posts too.

Based on what evidence?

Very strong for Jonathan Ross last night, the guests were good though. Next week I suspect those ratings will fall fairly sharply.

Brilliant for SCD, which continues to soar.
