Not too shabby for Bruce really. Pretty much in line with expectations. Only 4.4m behind TXF, the supposed ratings behemoth!

Or to put it another way The X Factor more than doubled the audience of When Miranda Met Bruce.

Series two was tentatively planned for January 2005, but was brought forward to autumn 2004.”

I think SCD would do best in the autumn as it would be moved around in January- March slot as BBC One has the 6 Nations and will be getting the FA Cup back in a year's time.

I would have thought the two shows appealed to very different audiences - we watched it because my wife met Bruce once and said what a charming man he was.

So 8.46m (38.2%) / 8.83m (39.9%) for X Factor. Not too shabby.

I Love My Country back down to below 3m - 2.91m (16.3%).

Through the Keyhole: 4.21m (20.5%) / 4.48m (21.8%).

Why do DS not make note of who won primetime anymore?

I thought it may put more distance between itself and Life Stories given Brucie is a national treasure and Julie Goodyear was Piers' guest.

Still a good enough viewing figure for a Saturday night, partly opposite TXF. For me these people that claim Brucie is bad for SCD will be eating their words when he steps down unless the Beeb are especially savvy with their choice of replacement.

Depends on co-production partners. I would say most get a Sky Movies airing first.

They don't. Virtually all BBC Films productions get a BBC premiere within months. For instance, Quartet has yet to appear on Sky. But you can bet it will be on BBCtv at Christmas.

Also presumably its up against Strictly again next week and will promptly collapse.”

I think XF helps to some extent but it also means SO has been starting before 7pm, clashed with Strictly and got far less attention. Looking back, it's not like the pre X Factor 6.30pm slot has been a hotbed of major hits over the years.

I'd not bring it back though, they've got too much already. But the not awful ratings and ITV Studios backing does mean it's maybe not as clear cut as it might have been.

In the past 12 months they've added Surprise, Surprise, Through The Keyhole, Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, Catchphrase, Off Their Rockers, Splash and possibly Your Face Sounds Familiar to their entertainment roster.

Stepping Out is absolutely the kind of thing they could afford to lose so as they have some spots for new shows next year. The Cube is another one that needs to go.

Worth keeping in mind week 1 was artificially inflated in the overnight by having virtually no ads - that's how high ITV's expectations were for it.

I could see it returning to be partnered with Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor auditions next year.

It's just unfamiliar to the general viewer - there has been no suggestion at all in the series she works on a market stall, so it just seems like they've stuck the character in their and built a weak plot around it. If it been the possible destruction of their home or the pub it would be a more believeable starting point.

I hope the Cube does continue. It is a BAFTA award winning game show and is different to most other game shows on tv. If they show it early next year, say against something like the Voice, it'll be interesting to see how it rates. It would be a satisfactory alternative to the Voice for viewers.

Sorry. You're wrong. It was mentioned several times that she has a market stall.

Samuel defends ITV show shocker! Actually The Cube is quite a clever show, but ratings haven't been that good, down to 3 million at times, and it is expensive to produce.
I'd say of all the roster of ITV shows that might go Stepping Out, unless it's moved to a midsummer slot, and The Cube seem to be the biggest candidates. Everything else seems to be rating average to good.
Now wasn't it this time 2 years ago, we were sniggering at Born To Shine and Show Me The Funny, and making jokes about flop ITV shows.

In a prime 8.30pm slot with a 10m lead-in it was barely cracking 3m... so while I can see why you'd want it against The Voice, ITV would surely be mad to do it. It's not like Splash will be particularly tough competition.

I'll be interested to see what kind of order Take Me Out has next year. They've only done 8 episodes this year, down from 24 last year and 14 in 2011. Partly because of the run late last year so I wonder if they might do more than 8 in Q1 2014? Although there's not a huge amount of room.

They need to make The Cube interesting again. When it was following on from SNT earlier this year, it was doing OK. When BGT came along, it fell a bit - dented by ITV +1.

It was doing 5m just three years ago. Really, they could have given that the post-XF slot instead of Jonathan Ross.

I expect Take Me Out's January series will be about 13/14 episodes similar to 2011. Itv will probably schedule it at around 8.15-9.30pm for 13 weeks in a row, with its lead-ins being Splash for 5 weeks and Saturday Night Takeaway for 7 weeks. Then BGT will be back after that and SNT finishes, leading into Through The Keyhole and probably a new game show airing before it.

The Inbetweeners Movie felt like a natural conclusion to the series which makes me worried about the sequel. Alan Partridge did okay so if Mrs Brown D'Movie is a hit then you bet BBC Films will want to explore other films based on sitcoms, perhaps Miranda or Gavin and Stacey. BBC Films have got a lot of their plate, they co-producing Saving Mr Banks with Disney so that may get a terrestrial airing in 2014.

I'm not sure it'll go straight to BBC, the smaller films like The Awakening do, but the bigger ones such as My Week with Marilyn and Jane Eyre seem to go to Sky first. I imagine it has something to do with the co-producers. Saving Mr Banks does sounds like the perfect thing to show over Christmas though, but probably not until 2015.

It'd be perfect for December 2014 since it'll be Mary Poppin's 50th Anniversary. I'm looking forward to it when its released in November. I am surprised they've not shown My Week with Marilyn yet. Nativity 2 is a possibilty but the first Nativity took two years to air on BBC One.

Who will join Samuel as he launches The Cube Preservation Society? Step up, Hassaan!

Yes. Nativity! was released November 2009. It premiered at 6.20pm on December 23rd on BBC2 in 2011. It has not aired on BBC1, but was repeated last Christmas Eve, again on BBC2.

Nativity 2 will premiere on C4 as it isn't, unlike the first film, a BBC Film co-production. It is part of the Entertainment One group.

Nothing is as it seems. Yet TV should do better when it's up against Splash than SNT. It's still capable of 7-8 million and this is good for a BBC One that's had some bad luck with its entertainment shows this year. Sooner watch Splash, though, as it's car crash television.
However, if TV really falters and Splash beats it, then it's time so say goodbye as it costs the BBC £ 11 million each year.
