TXF rating generated a lot of talk to today. But why?

IMO, the show is now rating pretty much the same every week yet somehow everyone is finding a lot to say on it.

The fact is, its not suffered a huge dip (so far) this year and its not doing amazingly well. Basically, the current set of figures please no one!
The heat is getting to us.

Actually, the heat this summer is pissing me off! I am fed up with the non-stop mugginess. When will it get cooler?

Bootcamp could be interesting. If it can just sustain it's audition figures it will be doing well as Bootcamp tends to see a decline (save 2010) but it looks intriguing with the chair aspect this year. How will Atlantis effect it, though?
Atlantis is the most hyped new show of this Autumn, having been trailed all over the BBC for the last 4 weeks. I am quite certain it will open to a 6-7million audience with a SCD lead-in, a bit more than what Merlin was getting in the overnight ratings last series. It will initially pose as tough competition, because although many of Atlantis' viewers will be older viewers who dont have an interest in TXF, I bet there will be many kids and young adults interested in it too who potentially are XF viewers.

Maybe it'll launch well but the audiences may alternate, as to not dent XF. Its quite unpredictable though.

Pay attention in class boy! 100 lines. I must learn to spell properly!

Seriously though mate, if you're typing long words incorrectly fair enough. But to spell a four letter word wrongly is pitiful.

Oh! You've changed your view! You were convinced it would be a huge flop just a week ago!

Downton should do well tonight, I wonder if it'll continue to time jump or will it stay in the 20s for the time being? The 1930s would offer a lot more opportunities in term of storylines.

Nope, I've always said it would start well for its first episode. We'll see how it goes after that, Im still not yet convinced.

It's because I typed to fast and the iPhone didn't auto correct, hence why I only noticed when it was pointed out. My phones been playing up loads with this new iOS.

All the critics seem to be convinced it'll be a hit.

It will be a new test - it could hurt The X Factor, it could help The X Factor or, as Hassaan13 says...

I can't possibly be alone in thinking that Atlantis looks terrible can I? Every time the BBC air a trailer for it I find myself cringing slightly. I know the people behind Merlin are involved but it does feel a bit like the BBC sat some writers down in a room, made them watch Merlin and then said 'we want more of that' (and obviously I don't mean that in a good way). I fear Atlantis may be another Robin Hood rather than another Merlin or Doctor Who. Although to its credit Robin Hood did somehow survive for a few years.

Bootcamp does look very interesting this year. I don't think it will fall too much. If anything, it will be the end time that drags the average down. I think Atlantis will do well and attract a Merlin type audience - and XF has always coped with that so no reason why it wouldn't this time around.

The heat is getting to us.
Bloody September heat.

I think you're in a minority Alex. Most people think it looks quite good! And the BBC DID want more Merlin. They were ready to recommission it. The cast decided to call it a day though. So it isn't surprising they wanted to capitalise on Merlin's success.

Fair enough but the critics have been wrong in the past. You know my feelings about Atlantis already, wizziwick. Perhaps I'll change them once I see the first episode if it is surprisingly good. But right now, Im cautious about its long term chances.

In terms of Atlantis v The X Factor, I think all views are reasonably sensible at this stage - as long as they don't go OTT.
