or b) some Shortland Street fan producing it as a thank you to Tim for getting the soap on air on Tyne Tees, since it was Granada (Tim and Denise's region at the time) airing the show briefly at 5.10pm in the early 1990's and grabbing the young crowd (his son, half the Neighbours/H&A crowd)that got it picked up on Tyne Tees not long afterwards (probably for us fellow Geordies to not miss out on it, even if it meant buying videotapes), otherwise we could have had something like Graham Kerr or Gardening Time following Vanessa as a schedule filler.

c) it's Geordie Shore in daytime.

Show Me the Telly. Brave of ITV to bring to mind Show Me the Funny. (And unlike Auf Wiedersehen..., it's apparently not just a working title.) As someone said, it sounds like Eggheads meets Telly Addicts, which doesn't strike me as a compelling mesh of concepts.

Had forgotten it started out life on BBC2. They've said in the past about how they've rejected some big names as their history wasn't interesting enough - I bet now they're beginning to go back through their booking book as I guess with a show like this it's the name rather than what the programme discovers which pulls in the viewers. I guess we're still waiting on the scandal of them giving celebs other peoples pasts because it's more interesting!

It may be showing it's age a bit but it is still one of the stand out pieces in the BBC factual schedules - far more worthy of a place than the likes of Motorway Cops and DIY SOS.

Looking ahead and next week they have "The Great British Year" on Wednesday, which looks to essentially be a wildlife documentary, then on Thursday at 9pm it's "Mayhem and Mishaps: Britain Caught on Camera", which is essentially You've Been Framed dressed up as a documentary.

Now autumn is onto us, it's time for a brand new season of the DS Ratings Prediction Game. If you're new to it, someone who used to play but decided to give it a rest, a regular or a player who dips in and out it'll be great to see you take part - so please give it a go.

Yet more BBC1 factual shows with Britain or British in the title!

I don't understand why BBC One and ITV are launching Truckers and Breathless on the same Thursday. Both have been throwing out filler over the last couple of weeks; one broadcaster could have stolen a march on the other.

BBC1 certainly could have but ITV has been pretty full - and I guess they might have held back Breathless so it could get more promo time - and frankly Truckers shouldn't be too much competition I'd have thought. The synopsis doesn't sound brilliant - but more than that I think it's the programme name does it no favours - stumble across that on the EPG and you'll think it's some kind of Eddie Stobart documentary - and frankly nowadays on BBC1 at 9pm viewers probably expect that sort of factual more than they would a comedy drama.

They could have aired Breathless straight after The Guilty but I suppose they wanted a slight drama break from one to the other so they could push Breathless. What will it be getting as a lead in after Pat & Cabbage finishes?

I doubt that BBC are expecting much of Truckers, it kind of looks like they've switched their schedules for Tuesdays and Thursdays as DIY SOS seems to be the start of a new series. I wonder if they are sending Truckers out to die against drama competition from both BBC Two and ITV, it really does sound awful.

CBS has probably waited for tonight for months after a weak few months. The return of The Big Bang Theory should bring CBS to the top again, not sure about how the rest of the lineup will do, but surely a show with a BBT lead in would do slightly better than without one.

I predict TBBT to get 15.70m. The previous season started with 15.66m and ended with 15.48m but hit 20m mid season

Yes, that's right, at the last minute too because they were still promoting it on SS2 on Tuesday's match and it was still in the Virgin EPG, which caused much hilarity on Twitter ("Why is there a STUPID Boat Race and not the football!!!!!"). Might have made more sense to put the America's Cup on SS2.

In the past we could have called these programs filler but the way things are going there is more filler than actual programs especially on BBC1.

Women Behind Bars [3.5mill] was Itv's worst rating prison documentary of the last 4 years, rating 1million worse than Trevor MacDonald's previous prison-fronted documentary which aired earlier this year.

But how did it compare to the other channels at 9pm?

Not sure. You'd expect it to have beaten BBC1's light fluffy documentary easily. Prison documentaries is a genre which typically gets over 4million+ on Itv, often around 5million.

A decent rating considering where EastEnders has been lately. They need to stop bringing back older characters and focus on telling stories.

Why do people object to old characters coming back, in real life people come and go from each other lives all the time, surely soaps bringing people back makes it more realistic not less.

But EastEnders have done it so many times that the effect diminishes. It's a quick fix for the show rather than a rarity that would give massive impact.

So ITV number one at 9pm. This is why sometimes you should wait for all of the ratings to come out then comment. Night have been low for a prison documentary in recent times but it still beat everybody else.
