The Millers is the most 'on brand' new show CBS has put in that 8:30 slot so far and has a pretty starry cast. Its going to be interesting to see how that does. Obviously its not going to provide the same level of lead-in as Big Bang did this week but I'd be surprised if it falters straight out of the gate and if it does than questions really have to be asked about the value of Big Bang as a lead-in. The shows running out of Big Bang have a terrible track record.

Very bad evening for NBC. Michael J Fox disappointed due to having an ageing audience and the rest of their lineup burned.

Crazy Ones done quite well but it was a poor pilot, that will drop like a stone over the season. That wont do TAHM or Elementary any favours, both of which disappointed on their returns.

Speaking of ITV documentaries, have they now scrapped airing the one about Murdoch? Didn't get glowing reviews back in Australia this Spring.

NBC crashes back to reality but there are some positives. Michael J Fox was steady as a rock across the hour and debuted right on par with The Office's season opener last year. Parenthood was down 0.3 from last years opener but doubled Rock Centers year ago performance in the same slot. Parks was down 0.3 as well year-on-year but it aired at 9:30 last year and not against Big Bang Theory.

CBS has a good opening 90 minutes then things get rocky. Both episodes of Big Bang Theory were up year-on-year when it started with a 5.0 over half an hour. The Crazy Ones debuts strong. Two and a Half Men dropped 0.6 year-on-year with its move an hour later. And Elementary was down a full point year-on-year.

Meanwhile Grey's not looking quite so healthy as it enters season 10 for ABC not sure why they went for a 2 hour opening instead of getting Scandal back on the air. Its down from last years 4.4 one hour season opener last year. Fox had another horrible night. Glee is down 0.4 year-on-year and The X Factor is down more than a point year-on-year but even with last week.

Michael J Fox did okay, NBC are stuck with it for the season but I don't think its going to crash to Community or Parks numbers. Parks needs to be cancelled after this season. Glee had good retention from X Factor, the show is safe as it's been renewed for two seasons. The Finn tribute episode may bring back old viewers.

Greys I wonder if it would benefit from moving to different slot and have Scandal at 9pm. I think it won't be axed unless Shonda Rhimes and the cast call it a day.

The Crazy One did great, it'll be interesting whether it can build into a solid hit, I liked it and considering CBS has never had much success with single camera comedy, The Crazy Ones debuting so well must be heartening,

It's ratings aren't maximised. If you add together the multiple showings of X it's leagues ahead of SCD. The fact that this thread and the tabloids can get that probably says more about both groups than it does about the popularity of the shows.

The Crazy Ones is awful and should drop like a rock. It's got Robin Williams playing himself in it too. Might have been funny 20 years ago, but not now. The new look 2.5 men was quite funny though.

I used to be the one in here backing Glee, but honestly wish it would end now. The death of one of it's stars has just made it seem wrong to carry on. The show has been declining in quality for a while now, many of the best characters aren't there or are diminished. The new ones are terrible, put it out of it's misery.

Strictly Come Dancing is back tonight. The BBC hasn't done a proper trailer for this season's return unlike previous years and it hasnt been publicised as much as last year's main series opener. So I think 7.5million viewers would be a good result bearing in mind it is airing on a Friday night with a low lead-in, but anything over 8million would be excellent. Tomorrow is when its rating will shift up to normal levels, tonight as long as it gets 7m+ it's fine.

Technically not renewed for two seasons. Fox have an option for another season on the same terms as this season. Not sure what kind of penalties are built in if they opt not go forward with that which looks possible given how low its started. If nothing else it seems likely it'll end its run on Friday if its back next year.


It'll be interesting to see what ABC do if Scandal returns strong next week. It might be worth a midseason switch if Scandal can hold up during the first half of the season. Maybe move Grey's to Tuesday night where ABC could use it.


Indeed. Crazy Ones not been especially well received it would seem. Its a shame though because James Wolk is excellent in it and really deserves to be part of a hit show because he's been great in loads of shows no one watches. I was however incredibly surprised by how warmly Two and Half Men's revamp was received.

Michael J Fox seems to have been fairly warmly received as well so I'm hopeful it'll hold next week. And if I'm being really optimistic maybe even grow but that'll depend on how Sean Saves the World does. Can it lap up viewers that ditch Crazy Ones and benefit from an indirect lead-in from the CBS multi-cams?

You say that every year and you'll be saying the same next year no doubt. Last year's opening was a one off due to the much hyped plane crash with various deaths. Two years ago it opened to a 4.0 across 2 hours. Pretty solid given some of this weeks erosions.

Breakfast tv and Itv daytime is fairly low key exposure overall. Tonight's episode hasnt been hyped up as much as last year's. Have you got a link to the trailer? Most Ive seen is little 20 second promos of the contestants such as Abbey Clancey saying how much theyre looking forward to dancing. I havent seen a properly filmed 1-minute special trailer for it. I would say have fairly realistic expectations for tonight's opener, a 7.5million rating would be solid all things considered. Dont go in expecting very big things ratings wise.

It got 8.0m on the dot last year and timeshifted to 9.22m. I reckon 7.8m would be realistic tonight. The Friday start never does brilliantly but they have to do it because Len and Bruno need to do the US show so can't do Sunday which would be perfect for it.

7.8m is my guess. I sure it will be in crisis even is it falls by a few thousand if this thread is anything to go by!

Given that SCD is popular with the older audience who probably don't use catch up services I'd think an afternoon repeat would work well

Why the need for the Friday show? Given that next week they manage to fit it all in to one show

Scandal has never done more than a 3.2 and in L+3 it falls well behind Greys.

Radio 2 have championed Vanessa Feltz. Plus Len Goodman made an appearance on the One Show yesterday.

I think The Crazy Ones has potential but its only the pilot so it has room to make improvements, I imagine it'll be the first CBS series to get the back 9.

I imagine once Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo decide to leave, it'll be the best time to end the show. Sandra Oh is leaving after this season so that may influence the decision to renew it for a final season.
