I think we're all agreed Simon is the devil incarnate haha. The show is a mess this year - it's so contrived. I mean there were a lot of rumours before, but now it's ridiculous. It's like the Hunger Games.

On a good note, the Say You Love Me cover's gone past 200k. I've seen the views continually creeping up over the months. Not bad seeing as there's not been any promotion of it since about February. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOf__gLgSiE

It's a shame the other covers weren't as good. The Sam Smith one killed the great reception the first video had.

Ah. If only Alex was made to sing like that all the time way back when.

Do Abba have any big vocal songs?

i don't know their discog well.

Also I hope she sangs. Ain't no one hear for a timid vocal tea She better milk that exposure.

The Winner Takes It All is a difficult song to sing, but I think it would suit Alex's vocal. Or perhaps I Have a Dream, Fernando or The Name of the Game. Please not Dancing Queen, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme or Waterloo.

Thank You For The Music would be my choice. The lyrics are appropriate to her raison d'etre, and it has to me a theatrical feel which gels nicely with her current vocation and is a really joyous song to boot.

I see Leona is performing on X Factor this weekend. Would have been good if they invited Alex on to do a song from The Bodyguard in order to promote the musical. I'm happy for Alex right now. Anyone who has been on the XF gets tainted with the XF tag...the show is such a curse. Even for Leona. Right now Alex is doing something really credible. Would be good if she could get another musical. I was watching The Royal Variety Show last night and Beverley Knight's performance from Cats was very good. That part in Cats would be perfect for Alex.

I'm actually glad Alex is staying away from The X Factor.

She was an ambassador for the show, helped mentor contestants and even stepped in last minute as a judge, but lately they have completely written her out of the show's history.

Leona on the other hand released an album which basically slagged off Simon and Syco all the way through and she has been allowed to go running back to the show to promote herself. Seems a bit desperate on her part to be honest. It's not what I expected from her.

I think Alex has just moved on from the show and feels comfortable in what she is doing at the moment. Good on her.

I agree actually. I thought last nights Leona and Ben duet came across like they both needed help and both needed to up their profiles (which Leona does). If they really cared about Leona they would have given her a song from her latest album to sing on her own. I mean, she was up on stage singing a cover of a song that she released years ago now. Says a lot that does! Alex is best off out of it I think.

If that's what you're talking about then it's deffo not her voice. But this song sounds a lot like something she could have recorded for the... gospel, us album? The one with Where Do The Hearts Go :x

Where Do Hearts Go was from a different project after she left KWL.

But this demo reminds of Shine from the scrapped U.S. album. Hopefully more tracks from that album leak one day.

I agree Alex is better off staying away from the show. At least now she can be known for her own work and not always be associated with the show. They didn't even give Leona a solo slot on Sunday where the bigs acts were (Adele, Coldplay, One D). They wheeled her out to perform with a flop winner.

Susan Boyle sang Thank You For The Music on the ABBA show. Someone tweeted about 20 seconds of it.

Yeah. I wish Alex would get her due, but sadly, even if she was still selling millions of records she wouldn't I don't think (from a vocal perspective).

Whenever you mention her, she'll either be put in the 'oh but Leona was/is better' or 'she's alright' talent categories as if she can't really sing. Thus is the life of a black woman singer.

I'm glad she's getting standing ovations for the BG, she really deserves them. I wish she'd be on ITV/BBC promoting One Moment In Time or IWALY like she did in Ireland to promote the upcoming tour dates for the show. But then she'd have to not perform one night, which isn't fair on those who've paid to see her (if the show was recorded at night).

So Jay won strictly. First time my favourite has won on reality TV since Alex in 2008. Was watching some of her x factor performances on YouTube. She really was the best they ever had in terms of vocals and performing skills. Shame Simon couldn't see that.

I still think Alex's win is magical to watch.

I think her series was by far the hardest as nearly all the finalists were very talented and attracted big fanbases. She didn't peak too early and became the front-runner at just the right moment.

Alex got a big launch with her debut album but I don't think Simon was interested in developing her long-term. It's telling that he outsourced most of the production for her album to Jay Brown and RocNation, where with other acts he was involved personally with the making of the album.

But saying that Overcome was a great album. It's just a shame that we never got to hear the second album she was completing before the transfer took place. Call Myself A Liar leaked, so hopefully some more songs from that project make their way out at some point. It's also a shame that we never got to hear Shine as well.

Oh he saw it. He just didn't care. Plus I think he seems to have a dislike of handling black acts in a commercial sense. He didn't want to sign JLS and thought they'd flop. I mean 1D were nothing in comparison and he was wetting himself.

Honestly after all these years you would think I would have got over just how shit a label Syco are, the successes they have destroyed in quick time scales are unbelievable.

Alex was a huge success yet he wasn't invested in her, they screwed up Leona's career post Spirit and Rebecca Ferguson was made to record a covers album despite her success and critical acclaim. They really are useless with their female artists, they may know how to launch a singer but they can't sustain them. I wonder how Ella will fair with her second album, I think they may finally learning from their past mistakes though.

If you check Alex's twitter she replied to someone that she is doing one more show and then she's coming back to music. But... She's probably talking about something new... So it will take another 2 years of waiting for her to get to the studio? Im a bit confused :x
I guess she is saving the money to make something bigger than just a free EP, but..
Well... I wonder what show she will do now.

She needs to sign a new record deal if she wants to return to music. She'll continue to fail if she thinks she can sustain a career by remaining independent.

If Pixie Lott can get a new record deal, there's no reason why Alex can't.
