I agree about this though, she does need to walk before she can run. But her artistry considering the EP was the start of it, did not get good reviews, which frightens me. The product has to be good.

It's only now that she's written various hits and had some big songs of her own that she is respected as an artist. I agree with Tim, collabing with some DJs and rappers on hooks would not hurt Alex at all...

It's how Nicki, Ke$ha, Keri Hilson etc all got their starts and how they started to build a fanbase. I don't think it's right to get snobby about it because it's a very good way of getting people to know about Alex. Once she has the attention, then she can focus properly on her own artistry. Preach! Exactly my thoughts but I never know how to say it properly

She can collab, but make it the right sort of people or she's going nowhere. Kendrick etc. If she collabs with the wrong people she's shooting herself in the foot, remember what Wretch said before?

She did not have proper respect from the right quarters, and that was due to her music. It was not her fault, but now she has more control. Working with those who make GOOD music is better than working with a thousand who make bad music. She may get an audience but she will get no respect, which she lacks on all fronts.

Notice how she didn't get many outright, if any, offer for collabs with serious people during Overcome, despite her success? That was a warning. Not a good look.”

Alex is not a natural songwriter, but she does write. She's an artist and has her own ideas, but that still doesn't mean getting your name out there wouldn't work from doing features. She needs to do something to raise her profile. She can't just sit around and wait.

When you're trying to make it, you can't really be picky about who you collab with or problems will arise. I highly doubt Nicki would even bother to collaborate with Teairra now, but she did back in 2010 when she was trying to raise her profile. Rihanna also did a few features while she was trying to raise her profile. There's nothing wrong with it.

Respect often comes with success, there are lots of talented artists out in the industry that are respected but never breakthrough. Look at Livvi Franc, she has written various hits and songs for big artists, but her own solo efforts flopped. It's about more than just respect. The public need to know and like the artist, and doing features is the quickest and most effective way of doing that.

Nobody knows what kind of discussions she had during the Overcome era. Syco isn't big on their artists featuring on other artists' records so we just don't know what went on there. That can't be used to reinforce your point.

She has to strike a balance. I don't want her to turn into a songwriting humdrum singer, there's plenty of those around already. Alex has her own edge and is a great performer, dance tracks do suit her. She knows David Guetta and she probably has other contacts, so why not try it. She doesn't have anything to lose as their fanbases are way bigger than hers. She will gain new fans which she desperately needs.

I don't mind her doing features per se, but they have to benefit her. I mean Baby Tornado ended up being a good deal for her Nigerian exposure. I just want her to do well, but the only thing that scares me is the respect thing, but I suppose that came more from people not liking her as a person over here.

I did too! hahaha and then I saw the time of your message and checked her twitter and then I was like WELP.

If she doesn't have a label she may be doing what Miley did and recording one and then pitch it. RCA said Wrecking Ball was one of the songs that made them sign her.

The Daily Fail did an article on the picture, complete with disgusting yet predictable comments -

The site honestly disgusts me at this point, the blatant promotion of online bullying through comments as a way of gaining traffic is appalling! Alex is just a human being who happens be living her dream, no amount of jealousy justifies some of the horrible comments on every article about her

Agreed. But all it means is they can further promote their press/promo of certain individuals in any light they want. Hers will be full of hate on the majority of spreads.

True, They seem to always post negative articles about certain people. Remember their article headline last year that read "Leona Lewis shows off fat arms on Loose Women"...Of course they swiftly changed it to "Leona Lewis wears red dress on Loose Women" after some fans complained. The fact that they didn't even post an embedded soundcloud link on her EP promo page shows how they feel about her really, that whole "campaign" was useless.

Don't take it to heart. There's a reason why Alex avoids reading newspapers and articles about her unless necessary. The Daily Mail has always been this way, this is a publication that supported Hitler at one stage, so I wouldn't be shocked by their behaviour. It's sadly just how they operate. Alex and her PR team just use them to get publicity. Apparently it is one of the most popular newspaper/showbiz sites for traffic on the internet.

But at the end of the day, those people are still taking time out of their own lives just for Alex, so while they may be attempting to rubbish her, they are only promoting her.

Sometimes it's good to have a little bit of a love/hate element as it makes it that much better when things go well.

I suppose so, it just annoys me when she is being panned at such a level though, I can't help it .
And the DM supported Hitler? WTF ...Well that explains it then.
When it comes to the negativity surrounding Alex I think it sadly all comes back to the same thing, The UK as a whole simply don't like confident black women..sad but true!

I want more choreography like THIS from Alex. She worked that stage and the crowd were going crazy. This is why I don't think she should abandon pop uptempos.

I'll be gutted if she abandoned pop uptempos, she slays them.
