I was wondering if anyone has any idea which cinemas the episode will be playing in, and if its happening on November 23rd or not? I haven't been able to find information on it anywhere. I'm in London around that date so I hope that helps my chances of finding one.

Given that the plan doesn't seem to have ever been mentioned again by the BBC since it was originally announced I'm holding out much hope that it's still happening.

I won't be able to see it in cinemas on 23rd I've just recently realised I bought gig tickets for my favourite band that night!

I'd love to see it if they did it another night as well!

I won't see it in the cinemas but I will on TV so I'll be fine with that.

The only mention I have seen is the Modern Visual Culture Society at Leeds Uni which will be screening it on the night ("To celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who, MOVIC will be presenting the 75-minute Special as it goes out on a big screen!") which isn't exactly a cinema release.

Given the demand there'd no doubt be for tickets they'd have to have announced something by now. The BBC would presumably have had to pay Cinemas to give up a screen to show it, so I'm guessing it's quietly been dropped.

It's 2 months away. I wont expect anything to be announced till a few weeks beforehand at least.

They'll have to announce it round mid October so people can book tickets, if they don't anounce anything by then, I shouldn't imagine it will happen.

I did the same thing. I have tickets for REO Speedwagon that night! (OK, I am getting up there in years, they were big when I was in high school.)

I'll watch it on the iTunes release that night as it normally is released just after midnight.

Nothing wrong with some REO Speedwagon.

I'm watching 30 Seconds to Mars at the o2. Even though I've already seen them once this year and twice before that!!

Bit of a waste of money if it isn't shown in cinemas considering it was filmed in 3D for that reason wasn't it?

My friend and I planned to see it at the cinema until we bagged tickets for the 50th convention. Now we're hoping it will be screened there. Of course, when we booked those tickets it said evening events to be announced, yet since the tickets went on sale all has been quiet on the announcement front. We were hoping more guests would've been announced too (fingers tightly crossed for a certain Mr Davison...)

No, it was filmed in 3D as part of the BBC's two-year 3D trial.

Which sadly hasn't been a huge success. I've said before that Wimbledon looked great in 3d but it was poorly advertised. I didn't know until the semi final! I'm a big fan of 3d when done well. (not the finger poking out of the screen stuff)

Yeah, and will be shown in 3D on TV as well (BBC One HD, I assume, though it could be red button).

Not likely to be the main BBC channel where most viewers would want to watch in 2D. More likely on the Red Button HD service (as befits its extremely niche status)

During the Olympics all the red button streams were still avalable as separate channels elsewhere on the Sky Planner. It was just a question of finding them.

Still, I'll be getting the 3D blu-ray later so, if I can't record it, it's not the end of the world.

Just wondered if anyone else had noticed that david tennant hasn't been seen wearing the tenth doctor's trench coat in any promotional pictures of on-set photos of the 50th special. Have they dropped that part of the costume do we think?

aha thank you, and it's strange, he has always worn it so it doesn't really pay true to his character if it isn't featured in the ep

You won't need to... the 3D BluRay will be released on 2nd December. It's already available to pre-order at Amazon (currently at £11.25).
