hi folks , right here goes , please bear with me how i explain this,

i have a hdmi cable from my laptop to me tv
i all so have my laptop connected to my stero as well so if i play music from my laptop i can hear it louder through my stereo ,

but here is my problem , when i have all connected , i get sound out of the tv but not via my stereo,

but if i take out the hdmi cable then i get sound again out of my stereo , its only when i put back in the hdmi cable then the sound goes of my stereo, but the sound from my laptop is playing as i can hear it through the tv.

so any guesses why please

The two sound systems are probably mutually exclusive? - you can only have one at a time.

Assuming you only want picture via HDMI?, there 'should' be a setting on your laptop to disable sound over HDMI - I've had a number of customers complaining about no sound via HDMI, and we've had to enable it on the laptop.

The HDMI connection is acting as a soundcard as far as Windows is concerned. It can only send audio out of one card at a time so when it detects the HDMI is in use it switches over to that on the assumption that you want the noise and pictures to both appear on the telly.

What you need to do is dive into the Sound settings on the laptop and change the playback device back to the on-board sound card connected to the stereo system.
