Rick and Erin have been training for the Waltz this week. “After last week’s camp antics, Erin has decided that we’re going to tone it down a little this week,” Rick jokes. “I’ve choreographed a rather serious routine for Rick this week. There won’t be any surprise gurning or uncomfortable looks - hopefully!” Rick has been picking up the steps well, saying “I much prefer the Waltz; I feel safer in the hands of Erin!” However, Erin has said that Rick needs to work on his footwork if he wants a top spot on the leaderboard, telling us “Rick is struggling with the heel turns and, if I’m honest, right now they’re looking like a mess!” Behind The Ballroom begins at 20.30 tonight with appearances from Craig to give us his verdict on last weekend’s performances and Anton to give us an insight into how our couples are doing with this week’s routines.

Craig - Week One Performances

Hello Craig - lovely to have you back this series!

Well it’s lovely to be back my darling!

So let’s get cracking - shall we start with Lisa and Brendan? So their Waltz scored 27 last week, how did you find it?

Well I was actually pleasantly surprised by her to be honest, she did show promise. What I did say was that sometimes her frame got quite loose, it looked like it was slackening. She just needs to try and tighten a bit, but that should get better with more practice at these Ballroom dances.

She was beautiful out there though, wasn’t she?

She was gorgeous, darling!

Okay so how about Robert and Flavia’s Waltz?

Hmm… not as good I’m afraid. The steps were there but it just felt a bit bland. There were no massive errors or anything, obviously the way he danced it was a bit stompy, but there was no emotive performance or connection in the dance, I just wasn’t wowed unfortunately.

Aw that’s a shame! How did you find Sue and Artem’s Waltz?

Oh it was great Zoe, she was a vision in white my love! I was, once again, shocked at just how good she was; she’d obviously worked very hard to get it right. I’m just a little apprehensive over the quality of her Latin performances to come.

Well, time will tell Craig, time will tell! Finally, what did you think of Brian and Kristina’s Waltz? Now you only gave them a 4, little harsh?

To be honest I don’t think it was harsh at all, there were a few rather big errors. There was no rise and fall at all and it just looked clumsy. As much of a gent as he is, it just wasn’t that good.

The knives are out! Anyway Craig, thank you very much for popping in! Shall we be seeing you next week?

It’s a date!

I am thoroughly looking forward to it! Now I’ll be chatting to the one and only Anton Du Beke to find out how our couples are getting on in training!

Anton - Training

Welcome to the Behind The Ballroom couch Anton! How does it feel to be here without a partner?

It feels quite weird to be honest - I find myself looking about for Jane McDonald!

Aw you guys were fantastic together, do you still keep in touch?

Of course we do! Now that I’m not on the main show anymore she thinks I’m all hers, I’m genuinely flattered of course!

Aw that’s lovely! Shall we get stuck in? Let’s begin with Marco and Iveta. Now they have the Foxtrot this week, so how is that going?

Well, I must say, it is a grand improvement on his attempt at the Cha Cha Cha! Obviously the Foxtrot is slower so perhaps he’s finding that side of it easier, but the general movement around the floor and his footwork is great, although the gapping and the sections when he isn’t in hold could be a problem for him.

Very detailed! How are Julie and Vincent getting on?

This week they are dancing the Tango to a fantastic song by the Eurythmics, and I think she has improved this week too. Sometimes there is the issue of not being able to keep up, but she should get used to the speed before Saturday. I think she could shine in the Ballroom!

Oh that is fantastic news! Eh, Ronnie and Ola are dancing the Cha Cha Cha this week, so how are they doing?

Obviously Ronnie is a complete amateur to this dancing malarkey so he’s bound to look a bit awkward on the dancefloor - which he does. It just doesn’t look natural, but perhaps it never will. If he wants to improve in this dance he has to loosen the hips a little and just become more confident; a little bit more stage presence could see his marks creep up.

What about Jake and Natalie?

Well they have the Rumba this week and it is going smoothly. The Latin is much harder for taller couples, and Jake is no exception, but I must applaud Natalie because she is trying hard to make him look the best he can. Just like Ronnie, if he loosens those hips, the dance will look much more polished.

That’s great, glad to see he is getting better. Finally, what about the lovely Peaches and Robin?

This week Peaches and Robin are dancing the Waltz, and my god their routine is just breathtaking. Her shaping and extensions is just exquisite for a relative beginner! I predict high marks for these two and perhaps even the “dark horse” status.

Oh big words from the Du Beke! Thank you very much, give it up for Anton everybody!

Thank you!

Well that's all we've got time for today! Join me on Friday for another sparkling edition of Behind The Ballroom where I will be joined by my fantastic Friday panel, plus a sneak preview of Saturday's dances!

This week Frida and Pasha are dancing the Foxtrot. “Frida is enjoying the Ballroom dances much more than the Latin,” says Pasha, “she is turning into a natural at the Ballroom.” After scoring 22 for their Cha Cha Cha last weekend, the pair are out to improve. Frida tells us “we are hoping the Waltz brings us some higher scores. We have been working very hard!” However, Frida says she is struggling to keep up; “even though the Waltz is known as a slow dance, it’s very hard to keep up with Pasha! He’s incorporated some very fast turns; hopefully they’ll be okay on the night!” Watch Frida and Pasha perform their Waltz at 17.00 on Saturday. In the meantime, tune into Behind The Ballroom tomorrow where Zoe will be joined by her Friday panel and she’ll see a sneak preview of one of our couples’ dances.

Natasha and James are dancing the Jive this week to I Said Never Again by Rachel Stevens. "The Jive is an interesting dance because it's probably the one dance where you have no time to think or cover up a mistake, you just have to keep going," says James. "Natasha is coping with the Jive well and is managing to keep up - but it could all go pear-shaped on the night!" Natasha tells us, "ugh the Jive... where can I start!? The good thing about having the Jive early on is that I can get it out the way!" It's not all joking about though as James is getting frustrated with Natasha's inability to produce sharp kicks and flicks. "Natasha's main problem with the Jive is that her kicks and flicks are a bit too smooth and soft, they need to be much sharper. Hopefully this will be okay on Saturday." But will it? Tune in to Strictly Come Dancing tomorrow at 17.00, but if you can't wait that long have a peak at tonight's Behind The Ballroom, which will begin at 21.00.

Hello and welcome to Behind The Ballroom!

Joining me, Zoe Ball, tonight we have my fantastic Friday panel consisting of last series' finalists Faye Tozer, Laura Trott and John Barrowman and we'll have a sneak preview of Lisa and Brendan's Cha Cha Cha!

So without further ado, let's bring in our Friday panel!

Friday Panel

Well here I am with the three fantastic finalists of last series - Faye Tozer, Laura Trott and John Barrowman! So let’s start with Peaches, Karina and Rick. They’re all dancing the Waltz tomorrow night. Faye, how do you think they’ll get on?

I think they’ll all be fine. Peaches will be great, as she was last week, and Rick and Karina will probably be better at the Ballroom than the Latin so they’ll probably get higher scores this week.

Both Marco and Frida have the Foxtrot this week. John, do you think they’ll be good?

I think Frida definitely will; she’s a glamorous older lady and I get the feeling this will be her dance. I’m not so sure about Marco, we’ll have to wait and see!

No Laura, you wowed as last year with your Jive, do you think Robert, Natasha and Brian can live up to what you produced?

Oh, erm, I’m not sure! I feel quite sorry for Robert and Brian because the Jive is a hard dance for week two and they don’t seem to be much in the terms of movers, but hopefully I’ll be proven wrong! I think Natasha will be amazing though.

Back to you John; Jake and Sue are both doing the Rumba this week. How do you think they will do?

I’m sure somewhere under that sporty, shy exterior, Jake has a heart and a set of hips that can move - so I think if he brings those out he’ll be good. Sue seems to be doing well too; hopefully she can produce a good Rumba as well!

Lisa and Ronnie have got the Cha Cha Cha tomorrow. Laura, how will they get on?

Well right now I am absolutely loving Lisa and I adore the track she’s dancing to, so I hope she will do a good job! Ronnie I’m not too sure about - he isn’t a natural dancer and didn’t do too well last week, but perhaps he’ll have built up some more confidence to give us a competent Cha Cha Cha!

And finally back to Faye. After your tantalising Tango last series, can you see David and Julie emulating your success?

It would be amazing if they can! I’m not worried at all about David - he’s an actor and will no doubt be able to act this dance perfectly. Obviously Julie is an actress too, but I’m not too sure if she’ll be able to be as feisty as David, but I’ll happily be proven wrong!

Wow, that went by quickly! Thank you so much for coming in and joining us, Faye Tozer, Laura Trott and John Barrowman, everybody! Now it’s time to take a sneak peek at Lisa and Brendan’s Cha Cha Cha!

Dance Preview - Lisa & Brendan

Well here I am in the studio where our fourteen couples will take to the floor tomorrow night, so exciting! I’m joined here by Lisa and Brendan, welcome to the show!

Thank you!

So this week, it’s the Cha Cha Cha - how has training been?

It’s been good to be honest. I’ve had a lot more fun this week, as the Cha Cha’s more free and you can really let your hair down but for the Waltz you have to stay calm and connected.

And your dancing to the wonderful Katy Perry so it can’t get much better, can it?

Yea we’re dancing to California Gurls because I’m from California!

Oh, it can get better then! So you’re going to give us a little glimpse of your dance, so if you could please take to the floor!

Katy Perry - California Gurls

Oh, just look at them go! To see their full dance, tune into Strictly Come Dancing tomorrow at 17.00, and remember tomorrow will be the first time you can vote to save your favourites, as one couple will be leaving on Sunday. See you tomorrow!

Natasha & James

Training

After topping last week’s leaderboard with their Waltz, Natasha and James are out to impress with their Jive. “The Jive is probably the one dance where you have no time to think or cover up a mistake, you just have to keep going,” says James. The speed seems to be worrying Natasha, but will she be able to keep up on the night?

Dance
Jive - Rachel Stevens - I Said Never Again

Comments
Craig - You need to make sure you are kicking and flicking exactly on the beat because sometimes you were slightly, but overall a fantastic opener.
Darcey - Wow that was one fast Jive Natasha! I think it’s fair to say you never lost energy throughout the dance, which is hard for the Jive! I absolutely loved it!
Len - “I Said Never Again”? I tell you something Natasha, I wouldn’t mind watching that again! It was slightly ambitious for week two, but for the difficulty of the routine I think you danced it amazingly!
Bruno - A scrumptious, seductive feast for the eyes! You never lost the energy which is absolutely mind blowing!

Scores

Darcey - 7

Bruno - 7

Marco & Iveta

Training

Marco and Iveta are hoping they can put the disappointment of last week’s Cha Cha Cha behind them and improve with their Foxtrot. “This week we have the Foxtrot. It’s going well but I still don’t feel like I’m confident enough to produce a good dance, but I hope that gets better!” Marco tells us, with a worrying expression on his face.

Dance
Foxtrot - Johnny Hartman - Nature Boy

Comments
Craig - Gapping, darling. You could drive a bus between the two of you, I’m afraid. I have a whole other list of errors but it would take a century to get through.
Darcey - The gapping wasn’t that big a deal to be honest, sometimes when you’re out of hold you look really uncomfortable; you just need to become more confident.
Len - This is what Strictly is all about - a complete amateur trying his best and improving as it goes on. It was certainly much better than your Cha Cha last week!
Bruno - Len’s right, this looked so much better than your dance last week, but you still don’t look like a natural dancer.

Scores
Craig - 3
Darcey - 5
Len - 6
Bruno - 5

Total - 19/40
Combined Total - 34/80

"At least it's better than last week..." Marco tells Tess.

Next up will be Lisa and Brendan!

Lisa & Brendan

Training

This week Lisa is dancing the Cha Cha Cha to California Gurls by Katy Perry. “Training for the Cha Cha Cha has been great fun, it’s a lot more free than the Waltz and you can just go mad with it! I really can’t wait to perform it!”

Dance
Cha Cha Cha - Katy Perry - California Gurls

Comments
Craig - I thought it looked quite laboured and you weren’t light on your feet, but I did really like it and you looked amazing out there.
Darcey - Wow what a dance Lisa! The Cha Cha Cha is so different to the Waltz but you’ve really shown us that you are a Latin dancer as well as a Ballroom girl!
Len - Well it’s a Cha Cha Cha to California Gurls from the California girl herself! Sometimes you did look a little uneasy out there, but there are no other complaints!
Bruno - Oh Lisa that was one luscious Cha Cha! Your armography is stunning - I can’t wait to see you in the Salsa! And also, your dress really is delicious darling!

Scores
Craig - 6
Darcey - 6
Len - 6
Bruno - 7

Total - 25/40
Combined Total - 52/80

"I absolutely loved it out there - it will be hard to enjoy other dances like I did that one!" says a delighted Lisa.

Dancing next are Rick and Erin!

Rick & Erin

Training

After their camp Cha Cha routine last week, Erin has choreographed a mellow Waltz for her and Rick this week. “I’ve decided to tone it down this week, we want to get the judges back on our side,” says Erin. But what will the judges think?

Dance
Waltz - Matt Monro - Wednesday's Child

Comments
Craig - Your footwork was a bit dodgy once you got stuck in, but I must say it is nice to see you dance seriously this week.
Darcey - Ya, Craig’s right - your heel turns weren’t as smooth as they could have been, but I loved it and this shows you could be a Ballroom boy.
Len - I really liked this dance; you’ve clearly improved a lot this week and you’ve worked really hard. Yea, your footwork could have been better but I really enjoyed it!
Bruno - Oh my, what a transformation! From the camp MJ routine to the stunning Waltz - Erin you’ve worked wonders!

Scores
Craig - 6
Darcey - 7
Len - 7
Bruno - 6

"I'm really glad they liked it!" Erin tells Tess.

Jake and Natalie are up next!

Jake & Natalie

Training

Jake and Natalie are dancing the Rumba this week. Because of his height, Jake is struggling with the hip action. “I’m finding it quite hard to shake my hips because I’m so tall and stiff. Natalie and I have been trying very hard though, I just hope it pays off!”

Dance
Rumba - Son By Four - Where Did Our Love Go

Comments
Craig - Stiff and lifeless. Sadly, I thought you would do a much better Latin.
Darcey - There was some stiffness in the hips, if you learn to loosen them up a little, I’m sure you’ll do a fantastic Latin dance.
Len - I know you and Natalie have been working very hard to make this dance the best you can, and I’m not going to take that effort away from you.
Bruno - Oh Jake that wasn’t romantic at all I’m afraid! I want you to do well in these dances, but you have to get more hip action!

Scores
Craig - 5
Darcey - 7
Len - 7
Bruno - 6

Total - 25/40
Combined Total - 50/80

"I couldn't have asked any more from him." A disappointed looking Natalie tells Tess.

Next up are Julie and Vincent!
