Evening all,

Did anyone get the email from NowTV today about signing up for a "new ways of watching" trial?

I've registered my interest (even though I've only watched one thing on there due to the limited choice and poor picture quality vs Netflix) but am interested in seeing what they have planned.

Any ideas?

I also received an email will let my son do the trial if he is interested.

I got it too. I'm imagining maybe a catch-up service for Sky One/Atlantic programmes, if not streaming of those channels like they do with the Movie and Sport channels.

They've got to add content and services to make the £15 a month more acceptable (even though I've had Now for a year and have yet to pay full price!)

Adding streaming to YouView would be a good start, and HD on all devices too.

But if they were to add something like Sky 1 or Atlantic that would be pretty nice too.

Funnily enough, when asked to choose which device you use to receive Now TV on their questionnaire, Youview wasn't an option.

I thought exactly the same.

It asked me all sorts of details about my Android phone and tablet, and my Xbox including serial number and my gamertag, but not a single thing about YV.

Shame really, as a ready made box in 500,000+ homes would be a good place to try and drive up the subscriber numbers, especially since it does not support live streaming in the guide etc.

Have any of you received the instructions to access the trial app yet? They said it would be within a couple of days of closing the agreement survey. That was Wed night last week.

Yes, basically nowTV are adding an entertainment section to the service - Sky 1, Atlantic, Comedy central, mtv, Sky living, Discovery, Disney, Gold, Fox and Sky arts 1

The service includes live tv, catchup and on demand for all the channels

Hi,
Thanks for this info. I have not been selected either but I do have sky entertainment subs. I use the sky now for the films and for use in another room. These channels will be a welcome addition.

Only guessing here but could it not be contractual , don't Talk Talk and BT have the rights to sell those channels on Youview ?

Now TV are trying hard to acquire new customers. Several months ago I had a 30 day free trial and cancelled. They then emailed me saying they'd send me a £10 capital bond (spendable in most high street shops) if I had another 30 day trial. Obviously I took them up on the offer and cancelled

They've now dropped their price to a more acceptable £8.99 and are pushing their set top boxes but in my opinion they have to do more. £8.99 is still expensive considering they only ever have about 700 films in their library. Sky's ondemand offering as a whole is hugely confusing... Now TV, Sky Go, Sky On demand brought to you by Joanna Lumley... is Now TV films, Now TV Sports? Plus... still no HD? From a Sky service? And for £8.99 a month?!

Now TV / Sky / whatever you're called - drop your price, offer HD, simplify your offering and you'll stand a better chance.

The picture quality definitely improved about two or three weeks ago. Not HD quality but not far off it.

On which formats?

Roku/NowTV Box and Xbox are 720p already (but don't look particularly good!)

There's now a hidden button on the Now TV home page pointing at www.nowtv.com/entertainment. That page doesn't exist yet but presumably that means the new service isn't far off.

If the price is right I would almost certainly subscribe for 1, Atlantic and Living.
