It depends on the reason why he is arrested.

He may only be arrested on "suspicion" of murder, without any real evidence, therefore they will only be able to hold him for a short period.
It's unlikely they will charge him with murder (therefore hold him till trial) if the CPS don't think they can get a conviction.
