Don't normally watch it but seen it for last 2 nights on off
And all I seem to have heard is hysterical screaming
Compare that to EE and they seem so more relaxed
Now I don't watch either every week but seem
Most in last few weeks

Is it normall for hysterical women in Emmerdale ?

It is when their partner is a serial killer and she's trying to get him to admit it on camera. How would you act it? If she had been all calm would you say that wasn't realistic?

I agree with you. I think Debbie's acting was the best. She should get a soap award for that!

Yes because storming the house with guns is usually such a relaxed event.

Every soap is based on hysterical women. There has to be at least one incident of a woman either screaming her head off or sobbing uncontrollably every episode. It's the law. Bonus points are given if the responsibility is given to a girl too young to do it properly as the director knows that'll grate even more.

It's not the hysterical acting that's the problem. It's the hysterical reaction of FMers anytime an actor puts in a half decent proformance. "Oh God xxx was BRILLIANT tonight.....deserves an Oscar!!!!!.

The only one who annoyed me tonight was Charity, she was just screeching away doing my nut in. Debbie being hysterical was understandable definitely.

I'd imagine if I found out my boyfriend was a serial killer and had to try and trick a confession out of him I would remain perfectly calm

So I agree, Emmerdale resisdents are hysterical, not like EastEnders where they are calm and never shout.

Charity tends to be shrill and shrieky many days and really gets on my wick most of the time. Only one negative though and have to say that I thought the characters behaved as it is reasonable to suppose they would act in a hostage related situation. Relaxed acting on EE tends to be a bit rubbish, Emmerdale was good tonight, imo.

the only ones who were hysterical were those caught up in the hostage situation, ie Debbie, her parents, and Cameron, and Alicia who was having to arrange the wedding of her ex husband who she still loves. Fairly valid reasons to be upset, I would have thought?

Let's be fair, though, we're quick enough to criticise them as well.

Because they're "the common people". Haven't you twigged that about the soaps yet? So unlike the life of our own dear queen!

Dearie me, some EE fans seem to be a little worried about ED overtaking their fave soap in the ratings.

As others have said, hysteria was an appropriate response in the situation. Trying to make out that EE is relaxed is fooling no-one, not even the majority of that soap's fans. And complaining about threads being set up in praise of performances can only be intended a a joke, given the way that this board gets over-run by duplicate threads when anything in the least noteworthy is happening in Walford.

ED's current strength is not at EE's cost (cf the 'is ED only doing so well at the moment because EE is so poor?' thread), they do not even go head-to-head in the schedules. The situation that EE finds itself in at the moment is of the programme's own making over a long period and fans taking pot shots at another soap is not going to change that.

Charley is a great actress and a favourite of mine, yet seems to get slated on here. I personally believe she is one of the best on the show.

Yes, the characters were hysterical, because one of the characters was taken hostage by someone who has murdered more than once. The mother and father were worried about their daughter, so this is why there were acting the way they were. No wonder these characters were hysterical.
