which songs do you hate to hear contestants sing and why?

for me:

Bridge over troubled water - the original was sublime and Art Garfunkel delivers such a vocal masterclass that nothing else compares to it. I've never ever heard it performed better, to the extent that I now hate to see people even try

Jolene - one of my favourite ever songs but most 'covers' are usually too lame to do it any real justice. done well, it's brilliant, done poorly and its dreadful. I'm not a Miley Cyrus fan but this version is very good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOwblaKmyVw

Anything by Whitney as it has been done too many times before.

haha spot on - especially I will always love you with some kind of individual twist to it to disguise the fact that they can't hit the notes that whitney could back in the day

Don't you mean Cry Me a River - Julie London? It's not Buble's song.

Leona's I Will Always Love You was amazing. Likewise so was James Arthur's Fallin.

personal choice I know but I HATE the white stripes version - although in fairness if you are going to cover a classic, at least reinterpret it (eg, always on my mind PSB, or mad world GJ)

I love hearing all these classics, I hate to hear them sing "modern" songs for the sake of being modern - such as Melanie McCabe, who should not be singing those types of songs.

Stephanie Woods singing Songbird etc, I love.

Purple Rain as it's been done to death on The X Factor.

Baby as I'm not keen on Justin Bieber's version, let alone these dreadful covers that I've heard on The X Factor shows in the past.

That's about it for me.

Popular ballads in general but especially Whitney Houston. I prefer upbeat tracks and preferably modern, otherwise it feels like watching karaoke at a pub on a Saturday night.

I think pretty much the reverse of this to be honest

Older ballads on the show kind of do my head in. I love a lot of the songs themselves, don't get me wrong. But there's only so many times I can listen to interpretations of say, Hero, before I have to mute the television.

I'd much rather hear people singing their own versions of the kind of songs you'd have heard in the charts in the last few years.
