BT Broadband. 50 Loss of connections in a week

I say 50, it's probably a lot higher.

Tried to ask the helpdesk and got the "have you tried turning your router on and off" BS again.

So sick of such a poor service. I get more value out of my T-Mobile dongle I'm using right now.

Time to switch

First of all what is disconnecting? The DSL or WiFi?

If the former then its your problem not your ISP's.

If the latter the fault will probably move with you to the next provider. (Faults like that are usually cabling.)

DSL.

They are doing building work across the road, but I'm not sure if the cables head in that direction - or if that would cause intermittent issues.

mine has been the same for the last two weeks. It's my Wifi which keeps going off. At first I thought it was a computer virus but it's the same on all my devices.
But today I used the landline phone for the first time in ages and there's a lot of crackling on the line.

I'm wondering if that means I need a new filter box. The bt help box comes up when my connection goes out but when it runs its test it just assumes everything is ok again as the drop outs don't last more than a few seconds.

I have this problem. I had openreach out on two occasions and they were useless so I got an independent guy to have a look and he found that the cables were ancient and in a right state. He activated one of the sockets again that open reach had disabled but the problem still persists and I keep getting constant drop outs. I'm tempted to get Infinity but I think the house would need new cabling and I'm not sure they would do this on installation

If you have an NTE5 type socket, plug your phone into the test socket without any filter. If the crackling is still there then you have a line fault outside somewhere.

As long as you are SURE that it is the DSL signal that is dropping out and not WiFi, call your ISP and get them to get it fixed.

You post doesn't make sense. A bad line will not affect your WiFi signal, only your DSL.

If you have cracking on the line, call whoever supplies your telephone rental and report a bad line. DO NOT mention your DSL service, it will just confuse the issue.

BTW, as I said earlier, WiFi is your problem not your ISP's.

It definately is. I've had open reach out twice and one guy was useless and said nothing was wrong. The other guy came and said there was a problem and he was disabling two phone sockets but it didn't solve the problem so I had someone independent out who was great and basically said the cabling was probably done in the 70's and he enabled one of the phone sockets back up but said it was in a pretty poor state. I'm sick of getting fobbed off by BT and so I've resigned myself to having constant drop outs now and I had the same problem with Sky Broadband as well. I'm waiting for infinity then hopefully they will be able to sort it all out for me

Don't be fobbed off by your ISP. As one of those "independents" I would have advised you such. I have even spoken to ISPs on subscribers' behalf and got they 'arissis into gear.

Ironically, it's been fine for the last three days, so whatever it was, it wasn't my hardware - but if it was a fault "outside" - as it must be (?) what's the point of their status page, which showed no issues on the list or anything wrong with the line, during the time the router was flashing away trying to find DSL.

Strange.
